Well, I finally got around to posting--you can read my horrible experience under the reviews for Stearns & Foster Manhatten Reserve. I finally had to "let go" of my anger and a lot of money to pay for a useless set and get on with my life. Thanks to this site, I am now experiencing the best sleep I have had in more than a year. I purchased the king Dunlop set from Sleepez. I bought 6 different pieces based on Shawn's recommendation, and My hubby and I have been changing them up to find the best solution. Here is what worked best for us: Firm base & midsection with SOFT top for Hubby who is 6'3 250 lbs. back sleeper and Firm base and Med middle and top for me 5'3 and 200 lbs side sleeper (We also put a 2 inch high quality Memory foam topper on top and zipped up the mattress cover without any problems.
Date Purchased: October 2008
Price Paid: $1850
Recommend: Yes

Pros:

The flexibility to change out the 6 pieces--doesn't interfere with the KING size feel while encased in the high quality mattess cover. Delivery was fast and everything arrived flawlessly. No smell either.

Cons:

Requires 2 people to move the pieces adequately.

I was all for the concept of a foam mattress but wasn't crazy about the temperpedic so when I came across this one and tried it out, it seemed great. In the store, it seemed very comfortable, not so firm that it was like a brick but just right.
Boy was I wrong. This is by far the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on. I feel like I'm sleeping in a valley and there is a mountain between my husband and I. Seriously. I can almost literally roll of the bed if I start in the middle. I just recently saw mention on another site about this and they referred to it as "canoeing". Sounds about right.
I have never been so sore in my life either. Every morning when I wake up, I can barely walk. My feet and back just ache. I've never had these issues before.

Pros:

not much

Cons:

canoeing effect

I recently purchased a latex mattress from Sleepez online. I did some VERY extensive research on the mattress options, and determined that the 100% natural latex pads sounded like the most logical choice. (I read a lot of these reviews, too!) I then visited local furniture stores to look at them- only to find that their latex mattresses were made of maybe 1 layer of natural latex and several layers of synthetic foams - nowhere near as durable- but in the $2000 range nonetheless. I finally found a local distributor of the natural latex mattress, so I visited her to test the real product. I was sold- but she is a 'middle man' and Sleepez had the better price by a few hundred dollars, even with shipping.
I decided on this type of mattress because 1) it is biodegradable, organic, not treated w/ chemicals 2) no gimmicky air bladders or pumps to have issues with. My dad likes his Select Comfort air bed, but he does have to 'refill' it to proper level regularly and still has back pain, tho less. 3) Latex is not temperature sensitive like memory foam which may make you sleep too hot & I didn't even want to chance that. 4) very long lifespan noted in all the testimonials 5) price was competitive with all the other 'quality' mattresses I looked at.
I am 52, 5'10" and 200 lbs. I have always had low back pain in the morning. Also, I sleep on my side and woke up every hour or so to turn over because that side would hurt so much- pressure point I guessed.
I purchased the Queen 1300, 4 layers, firm med, med, soft - what a dream bed! My husband made the box foundation for about $130. From the 1st night on - NO morning backach, NO tossing from side to side to relieve pressure pains. I believe I could have gotten the same benefit with just a 3 layer bed also, but I feel like a queen in this big bed. The latex is soft, but very dense & supportive. The purchase was completely hassle-free.
The perfect bed turned out to be the simplest, plainest, most healthy one.

Pros:

Absolute comfort, easy purchase, no gimmicks, no backaches. No need to 'turn' it every so often. What a relief in every sense.

Cons:

None!
