We bought this mattress from JC penny's after about a month of looking at many mattresses. We thought we knew what we were doing... This mattress is about 16" thick and has a whopping total of 2" talalay latex in it. Just thinking about that now makes me wince at how naive I was... There's an 8" base of "soy based foam" and then 6" of PU foam in various smart and fancy sounding layers on top. It was marketed as a "green" Latex mattress because this so-called expert put his name on it. If only he knew what I know now! How green is polyurethane foam? This is a pillowtop model that is very soft. It really felt pretty good in the store. Little did I know that as a stomach sleeper, I would have major back pain from this mattress in only a few short weeks. I honestly never thought my back would hurt that much from sleeping on a mattress. It was just way too soft for me. The salesperson should have known - she asked us how we slept, she should have never let us buy this.. My wife is a side sleeper who actually liked this bed, but I really think the lack of support would have gotten to her after a while also. I cannot imagine that bed holding up for anyone with that 6" or so of "nothing" on top.
Feeling burned, I knew I needed to really find out what was happening and lucky for us, I found this site just about then. I read many posts and learned why I was having backaches and what would probably work for us. JCP does have a 45 day exchange plan and we went back to the store a few times and tried all the mattresses that they had and knew that we would have eventual problems with any of the them. I ended up, after going through 5 people in their Customer service dept, finally getting the OK to return the mattress and get a credit for other furniture - which worked out OK. It was much better than having to eat the darned thing, or get another S brand bed that would not meet our needs. I then went the FBM DIY all latex route, which is working out nicely. That review is to come.

I'm going to give this bed one star only because my wife liked it and it looked very nice. I think this bed is very typical of what you will find with the S brand's latex samples; a little bit of latex covered by a lot of PU foam and then play up the word "latex" in the name and marketing as the public is somewhat aware that latex can be expensive, long lasting and comfortable.
Date Purchased: Sept '08
Price Paid: $2050

Pros:

Very nice 'looking' with a nice cover. This bed has a great marketing scheme. The naive will think they are getting more than they actually receive.

Cons:

Only 2 measly inches of Talalay latex in a 16 inch mattress! Yet it's called a "Latex" mattress. This was way too soft for me (stomach sleeper) and gave me a nasty backache. Very expensive for what's actually inside the mattress cover.

BEWARE of Natura World's Green Series Mattresses

Natura NaturaLatex Pure

After purchasing their mattress (Manufacturer: Natura World, Line: Green, Model: "Pure") and bringing it home I read the little white label that says that the product legally meets fire retardancy standards and not to remove unless you've purchased the product and yada ya....

This product contains Polyurethane foam!!! The ingedient is hidden under the descriptions of "high quality quilting foam," and "this mattress is 98% natural." Both I and the owner of the store I purchased the product from called the company and found out that the cover OVER the all-natural latex contains an inch of polyurethane memory foam! Now, anybody who is conscienscious enough to buy an organic, natural (what does that word even mean these days?), green or "environmentally friendly mattress" knows that this is the FIRST substance in mattresses to avoid!

Less important, but also worth noting that the company tries to skirt around and carefully word their advertising descriptions to evade...
The fire retardancy standards are not met with the wool (as the advertising for this product would lead one to believe), the sides are doused in Boron (they hide behind that one by advertising "natural fire retardant" which is true, but this is an added factor in the evidence that this company is trying to cut corners and mislead their customers. The cover and top of this mattress are also made of a "60% cotton, and 40% polyester blend, although the advertising description just states "natural cotton."

Finally, the bright green shiny tag on the mattress states that "this product is free from all harmful chemicals and substances!" I can handle the cotton polyester blend and the boron flame retardant but regarding the 1 inch of polyurethane foam that tops this mattress, it is safe to say that this statement is an outright lie, as I got the head customer service representative I spoke to over the phone to admit to me.

The other two mattresses in Natura's "Green" line also contain this polyurethane foam in addition to the above, and are advertised as I believe, 93% and 92% natural.

Further, this company also produces many "conventional latex mattresses" (about 17 or so), but the latex used is trademarked as "NaturLatex"..... and is mostly synthetic!... 60% synthetic and 40% natural, specifically. The company does not try to lie about this, but actually touts the synthetic blend as being superior to all-natural latex. However, the name which they chose to trademark their synthetic blend is quite misleading, to me.

Although on the contrary, I have only heard good things about their truly Organic, "Eco" line (although they are very pricy), clearly, this company, Natura World, does not have the best interests of the discerning customer or the "organic and/or natural" movement in mind. Their marketing is deceptive in more than one instance and when I called to question these marketing tactics, I was treated rudely by the company representative and told that "see we cannot actually change the physical properties of the mattress you purchased (although that is only the tip of the issue!) and this is purely an issue between yourself and the store you bought our product from."

I am not saying that for a substantial price, Natura is not producing a few truly organic and truly environmentally conscienscious products (although from what I hear, even the all organic cotton/wool all-natural latex Eco-Line is manufactured in the same facility as their conventional mattresses (of which there are many models), chemicals, toxic fumes, off-gassing and all. However, their marketing for the majority of their products is deceptive, misleading, and dishonest, and they do not provide nearly the amount of product information as companies such as Savvy Rest does. Their customer service leaves something to be desired.

This is NOT a truly Eco-friendly company. If you are really looking to both get a truly organic and/or natural product, as well as do your part to support the environmentally sustainable, organic movement, choose another more stand-up mattress company such as Sleeptek, Savvy Rest, or Suite sleep.

Pros:

Wool lining on top regulates body temp and is uniquely cozy and warm.
Sadly enough this mattress is so comfortable it's unbelievable.

Cons:

CONTAINS POLYURETHANE FOAM, polyester, and meets fire retardancy standards with boron (not just wool).

For a regular person who is not concerned with purchasing with the environment and their health in mind, this is a great mattress, but what really gets me is just how dishonest this company was in their marketing. It is ludicrous the things they are touting about this product to store owners and employees, who are made to tout falsities to their customers directly.

It is more the dishonest business practices of the Natura Company than the actual mattress that I am hoping to bring to the attention of the conscious consumer.

Considering it contains harmful chemical substances, it is priced quite high (you can get a true organic/natural latex mattress from Savvy Rest of similar softness/firmness for a couple hundred dollars more.

I purchased this mattress after reading several positive reviews about the company, and have had nothing but disappointment and regret. The whole experience started off wrong when Sleepez.com did not put my whole address on the packages, despite having it correct on the invoice, and I had to contact UPS to give them the correct address. This delayed delivery by about 1 week.
When I finally got the mattress, the order was partly wrong. I had been sent 1 king size layer, instead of a queen. They were quick to send out the correct layer, but got the address wrong again, and delayed the delivery again. Getting the layer back into the box to send back has been impossible, and I'll likely have to purchase a larger box, out of my own pocket, to send it back.
The quilted cover is good, probably the best part about the mattress, but the layers are slightly bigger than the cover, so the mattress is bulging along the edges. Which I could overlook if the mattress was good, but it isn't. I have seen better mattresses on sofa beds. Maybe I just don't like latex, but the bottom line is this mattress feels like a generic product that is $1,000 cheaper than the name brand equivalent. Maybe if I exchanged a few layers around I'd be happier, but the hassle of cramming the old layer back into the tiny boxes they come in and paying for it to be shipped back is more than I'm willing to do. I will be returning the entire mattress, and going with a name brand in the future.

Quilted mattress cover, friendly staff.
