So Far, so good

FloBeds Natural Talalay Latex

I've slept on my new flobeds posture zone-0n-point latex mattress for one night and one nap and so far, it feels good. It came the day they predicted and was in two boxes. My daughter and her boyfriend came by and helped me assemble it. I could have done it alone but it was nice to have help, especially as my back is quite sore from sleeping on my old shot coil spring mattress.

My bed has the follow set up:
*Covered with 100% European cotton stretch knit quilted to 1 inch 100% Pure Mt. Shasta Wool. .
*2 inch Convoluted Latex topper (approx 14 ILD) provides pressure relief and comfort without diminishing support qualities of latex cores below.
*Zone-On-Point Layer of 2 inch Talalay Latex for LUMBAR SUPPORT and SHOULDER RELIEF. 19ILD at the sholder, 28 at the low back for lumbar support and 19 ILD at the hips. (Set consists of Zone-on-Point Layer for each side. May be placed at different levels to change emphasis.)
*Two Layers of Latex Core, on one side it is 32 and then 36 on the bottom, on the other side, both are 32. I am trying out the two 32s to see if it is firm enough or do I like one firm and one extra firm.

I slept well for my first night and my back did not hurt when I woke up. My shoulder was a bit sore but it has been sore every night for months so it may take time for it to learn the new bed is soft and the muscles will heal. If my shoulder continues to be at all sore, I may change out one of the firm core layers for a medium layer and see if that helps. If so, I will also change out the extra firm (36) and have both sides set up the same.

Originally, I had my eye on a brand new Sealy luxury euro/pillowtop mattress and I was soooo looking forward to the cushy feel of the top. However, after reading from many reviews and different forums that the pillowtop mattresses tend to break down, often very quickly, I decided to go with latex for a reliable bed rather than a short lived nest. I am happy with my new latex mattress and look forward to sleeping on it for a few weeks and seeing how I continue to adjust to it. However, I will admit to missing the cushy feel I had experienced when laying on the pillow tops. My latex is soft and I do sink down nicely.. but it isn't the same as a cozy nest ;-)

I did not buy the foundation they carry as I was hoping to have found a platform bed for it by the time I decided.. but I didn't. So I had to rally with some plywood cut to fit my metal bed frame which has a center support bar down the middle, running from head to toe. My old bed's box spring was a true box spring and needed to bye bye so I need to figure out what I will do, platform/foundation wise in the long run but for now, this will work.

I will check back in after I sleep on it for a few weeks but I expect I will continue to be quite happy with my new bed.

Love everything about Latex

Foamsweetfoam Ultimate Plus

After months and months of bad bed experiences, took the plunge and decided to buy latex off of the internet. Husband and I were especially looking for....low motion transfer, no memory foam, resistence to body impressions as to provide years and years of proper support. This seems to be asking alot from beds these days!

We ordered Ultimate Plus from foamsweetfoam.com. We upgraded to wool cover. We ordered soft/med/firm on one side of the bed and med/firm/xfirm on the other. (24/32/40 and 32/40/46). One reason for ordering from fsf is they offer higher densities. And basically one side is a set of twin X-longs, as we have a king bed. Important to note that these twin pieces are NOT special cuts of any kind, so they are easily exchanged. So we had 6 pieces of latex to experiment with for 30 days, and it got to be overwhelming!! If you do this, be sure to keep notes on what you sleep on, and sleep on it for 4-5 nights.

After a couple of weeks, we realized the wool cover was too bulky, and liked the feel of just the latex. Instead ordered a cotton terry cover from mymemoryfoam.com...great price and it arrived quickly. Important to note we have a king size slat bed, and we placed 3/4" plywood on the slats as the foundation it sits on.

After all the experimentation, my husband (6' 190 lbs) likes the combo of soft/med/xfirm. I (5'4" 150 lbs) like soft/med/med, but have also switched upper layers to med/soft/med, when I want it a little firmer. I simply boxed up 2 pieces of foam, sent them back fed ex (cost $67), and received replacement pieces. Our bed is sturdy, and the latex has no motion transfer.

The manager at fsf.com has been awesome...hassle free and flexible.

Huge body impressions/3 defective mattresses

Spring air Nature's Rest Latex

The initial wonderful feel of these beds is quickly overshadowed by the deep, severely limiting and uncomfortable body impressions. We have tried both the Paradise Isle and the non pillow topped Cypress Cove which is supposed to be a soft mattress without the compression factor that comes along with the pillow tops. We had major compression with both types.
We do not recommend these mattresses.

Pros:

When you first sleep on the bed, for the first couple of weeks, it is like heaven it is so soft and comfortable. The company has a good warranty (20 year) and will replace if more than an inch impressionis measured.

Cons:

After a couple of weeks, there are body impressions that do not go away when no one is in the bed. They are like sink holes when you lay in them to sleep. It is difficult to roll over. You are confined to that space when sleeping and cannot make use of the larger space of the bed due to high hump in the middle.
