Future-proof

We bought this mattress more than 6 years ago (10" King). We took a real chance - was I out of my mind to buy a mattress that I 1) never saw/touched in person and 2) had to assemble? I loved the concept since my wife and I had different preferences in mattress comfort.

We received the mattress, exchanged a couple of elements to fine tune our comfort and finally had a mattress that BOTH my wife and I LOVED. The customer service was terrific and the quality of the product couldn't be higher. We move around on the bed without jostling the other person and, unlike memory foam, you are not stuck in a hole.

Now the future-proof part: this bed is made from 3-3" thick layers of latex stacked like playing cards in a deck inside of a zippered case. My wife has her side (firm) and I have mine (med-soft). We have had standard mattresses - we even had a Serta Latex king size at one point. Problem? They develop an indent that cannot be fixed (and it is likely enough to cause changes in comfort but not enough that it is a warranty issue). Sure, you can rotate the mattress but you cannot flip it. So when you have two people sleeping on the same mattress, you are always laying in the other person's indentation - even with latex. Not with this mattress! About once per year, I flip the layers over and reshuffle a bit. This bit of maintenance completely renews the mattress! In addition, if any of the layers becomes completely unusable (I cannot imagine how that would happen but just say "what if"), you can purchase a new layer from Sleep EZ or Amazon rather than buying a whole new mattress! Like I said, future-proof!

Pros:

-Can change the components without having to replace the mattress.
-Custom comfort!
-Latex is the best - comfortable sleep on a supportive cloud.

Cons:

-Not as "pretty" as some standard manufactured mattresses (not a big deal).

I've had an organic latex bed from sleep extra for about 2 years. We chose to take a chance on this bed after 15 years of picking horrible mattresses. While I was nervous ordering online, I figured I couldn't do worse than I had from a box store.

My husband loved his side immediately. We were both recommended firm-Med- soft. His was perfect. I'm pickier due to back problems. I have scoliosis and fibromyalgia. After trying different orders of the layers, I called to see about returning it. After lots of discussion about what I had tried and what hurt, they made a recommendation and extended the 100 days. I'm still sleeping on the order they recommended (f-s-m)! I love my mattress. I used to like to go to certain hotels- now they're uncomfortable compared to mine. If I were to do it over, I'd probably switch it out my soft for a medium as I prefer a slightly firmer bed, but the way it is is fine. They would have switched it in the warrant period if I had called. For reference, I'm 5'4" 110lbs and my husband is 5'9" 190lbs.

As for fumes/smells, they were very faint coming out of the shrink wrap. Hubby couldn't smell it but I smell everything. Once the cover was on, there was no smell! Our former hybrid from a box store was so strong I wouldn't sleep on it for a couple of weeks!

Now on a more personal note, it is our opinion that his side w the soft on top is too soft for sex (not enough resistance). You sort of sink in. The middle is the firmest part of the bed (you can't feel the seam, it's just former than either side). Both the middle and the side w the medium on top are fine for sex. I know, tmi but you know you were wondering!

Good job, sleep extra on a wonderful bed! I'll never go back to a traditional mattress!

I just couldn't get comfortable on this mattress. I gave it a try for over a year and a half. I toss and turn all night and wake up achy with stiff neck and back muscles. I tried every different combination with the three (soft, medium, firm) layers but couldn't find a suitable configuration. I am a slender person so weight/mattress firmness was not the issue. Now I'm stuck with a very expensive mattress because I'm beyond the guarantee period. I knew I didn't like it immediately, and I should've have returned it then, but was told it could take a while to get used to, and to first try different configurations of the layers, and so I waited hoping it would get more comfortable. But it didn't and my sleep is too negatively affected and so I will have to buy another mattress.

I really wanted to love latex, but, unfortunately, I only ended up loving the IDEA of latex.
