Costco Sealy Posturepedic Guilmont (CA/NV)

Sealy Posturepedic

I purchased the Queen-sized Sealy Posturepedic - Guilmont mattress from Costco last month. This is the firmest mattress available at Costco; my boyfriend and I decided on this model as a compromise between my preference for futons and his preference for traditional mattresses. The Guilmont has no fluffy pillow top features - this is a no frills, firm mattress, which was exactly what we were looking for. We have been sleeping on it for almost a month now and here's what we found:

-As a back sleeper and a former futon owner, I'm quite happy with it. Soft mattresses always gave me lower back pain.
-As a side sleeper, my boyfriend would wake up some mornings with a slight numbness in his arms. This mattress may not be ideal for non-back sleepers. We plan on purchasing a memory foam mattress topper to mitigate this problem.

Other info, specifically on purchasing this mattress from Costco:
-I paid a bit more as a California customer, since CA and NV have flammability standards. This mattress costs $30 less in other states.
-After purchasing at the store (or online, I imagine), you have to call the designated delivery service and place the actual order. Delivery takes about 2 weeks (10-15 business days, I believe is what they say.)
- Costco has a great return policy - just keep the receipt. The problem is that you have to lug the darned set to your nearest store.
- Since this is Costco, you can't separate your purchase, meaning that even if you don't want it, you're getting the box spring. You can get rid of it, but you can't make a return without it.

All in all, I'm happy with this mattress. I didn't think I would be very satisfied with any mattress as a futon user for so many years, but this feels quite firm and sturdy. I will probably write another review after a few weeks to report how my side-sleeping boyfriend feels about this mattress with a memory foam topper.

Sealy Venice Beach Mattress

Sealy Venice

It was time to retire our 13 year old Sealy Posturepedic Ultra Plush coil mattress. My wife and I purchased the Sealy Reflection Venice Beach in a King from a local authorized Sealy Reflections distributor. It was delivered on Nov. 20, 2004. All was great, so we settled in on our new mattress. I loved the comfort and support this mattress provided, as did my wife. Well, it only took 30 day's for this mattress to create a deep depression on my side. Now granted I am 260 lbs. so I though, well may be it's because of my weight. I thought nothing of it until I slept on my wife side. It felt nice and firm. I then rolled over from her side to mine and said that it this mattress is going back. It felt like I fell off the mattress, it was that bad. I called my dealer, who was very helpfull, I inquired why this would happen. A) my weight, B) the box spring, C) the mattress has a defect. He informed me that he has not experienced problems with this mattress. He also said that it has nothing to do with my weight. He actually said it would be better. I said OK, what should we do. Granted I was ready to scrap this bed and go to a Sterns and Foster like mother always said. However, I said, I go with the flow. The reason for which is that I have been sleeeping on a Latex mattress for 6 years on my boat and it is perfect (thanks to Hand Crafted Mattress company for that one). We discussed the options and desided to have him order a new mattress and box spring set. He feels that there was a manufacturing defect.

Well the mattress and box spring arrived today Jan 22, 2004. It feels good so far. I will provide an update to see if it passes the test. If not this mattress is gone good buy. I would like to say that my dealer has been terrific. Thanks Wayne Bedding. I am very glad that I chose to go to a local bedding store within mile from were I live. Also he has been in business for 20 years. Much better that the chain store Bull Sh&! there is today. I hope this helps any other out there looking for a latex mattress.

TO BE CONTINUED !!! :>)

Firm comfort.

Sealy Manhattan

This was a comfort exchange. My first purchase was a Laguna Beach that I found to be too hot and was much softer than the three different floor models I had tried. I was going to bag latex for one of the S&F cushion firms until I tried the Manhattan. It is a firm mattress, but the countouring nature of the latex definitely takes the edge off and creates a cushion firm feel. I also feel that this is the best made of the Sealy latex beds (it has the least amount of PU foam and that foam is high density so it should last). This bed sleeps cool and felt exactly like the one I tried at the showroom. My plan is to use this mattress as a "base" and, if necessary, purchase a 3 inch 14-19 ILD topper for it if I desire a plusher feel. Seems much more practical than buying a pillowtop with PU foam that will wear out long before the latex underneath it does and you can add or remove it as you see fit. I really think this is the best and most efficient way to create a comfortable bed.

Overall I am very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it for anyone looking to purchase a firm/cushion firm bed. If you are looking for more "plushness" at the same price I would suggest the Newport. But, for about $150-$250 more, you can purchase a 1"-3" Talaly Latex topper (or whatever topper you prefer) and not have to worry about the PU foam losing its resiliency over the years. This should extend the comfort life of the mattress and make it cheaper in the long run. (I have officially deposited my 2 cents.)
