My wife and I are looking to purchase a latex bed.  We have been to our local bed stores and found the one that we like.  We both liked the Pure Latex Bliss Nutrition 11” model.

The Pure Latex Bliss Nutrition 11” model we were looking at consists of (from top to bottom):

470 Gram Weight Viscose Blend Mattress Fabric

Milliken Fire Retardant Layer

4” Pressure Relieving Natural Talalay Latex Rubber

6” Supportive Natural Talalay Latex Rubber

1” Stabilization Base Foam

We were looking for better price then what they are offering at $2249.99 mattress set with foundation or $1979.99 as mattress only.  While looking for a deal we stumbled on this great forum.  So we have spent a couple of days of reading the forums and looking for ideas.  In reading the forums we came across couple of manufacturers.

They are:

Custom Sleep Design (www.customsleepdesign):  They are offering an 11” mattress set for $2299 or mattress only for $2179.  Their construction consists of 6” base core, 3” middle layer and 2” topper layer.

The Mattress Factory (www.mattressfac.com):  They offer their 11” model for $2299.  Their model consists of choice of soft/medium/firm 5” HD foam base core with 6” Talalay Latex (36 ILD ONLY) on top.

Both of the above options are priced above Pure Latex Bliss.  In the forums we were reading that there are alternatives out there that are better priced than Pure Latex Bliss model.  And that we should be using “S” stores as a testing ground to figure out what kind of bed we like.  Does anyone know what other options there are out there?

We live in Central New Jersey.  Is there anything within 3 hours driving distance that we should check out?  Or is there any reliable mail order that we should be considering?

As a side note:  Does anyone know how Custom Sleep Design quotes prices for their beds?  I read in the form that someone got an Eastern King for $2499 with foundation, delivery and 2 King Latex Pillows and that is without any negotiations.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help

My friend just took delivery yesterday of the PLB Nutrition. He bought it under my recommendation since I have been research a new mattress for over a year. I have a latex pillow (made by LI) that I boughte ten years ago, still feels the same as the first day. When I set out to get a mattress I said I wanted something that was made out of the same material as my pillow. At the time in my area there were few options, with the exception of a few organic (very $$) options. It's great to see latex going mainstream and being sold in large retailers. Anyway, to my point..The Nutrition is absolutely magic. When I laid on it the beed felt just perfect; the perfect combination of firm and soft, simply perfect for us. My friend is VERY happy with his first nights sleep..Needless to say I already have a deposit on a king set for my wife and I, thats how nice this bed is. Best bed I have ever felt, and I think it is a memory foam KILLER in terms of the mattress market. Lookout Tempur.

Finally a bed thats comfortable and will last 20 years. Finally!!

Took delivery on our King size Nutrition and got an additional 2 inch PLB topper. It's absolutely fantastic. Lower back pain is nonexistant and I sleep more soundly, fall asleep quicker. I know all this sounds like a promotional ad but it is simply the truth. It's the best bed I have EVER felt, and I laid on countless mattresses over the course of the last year.

Can't speak for longevity yet, but comfort and quality seem to be top notch on this bed. The only thing I would say I dont like about the topper is it is two fused together twin pieces and you can sort of feel the seem in the center of the bed. Once sheets and mattress protector is on its not bad, but a point to note anyway.

Bed did not smell at all when we got it in the room which we expected it would;  it is extremely heavy (160 pounds) and difficult to manage moving.

This is easily one of the better purchaes my wife and I have made in years and feel like it's a sound investment. We're very happy with it. You owe it to yourself to at least try this before you buy ANYTHING else in this price range.

I'm searching for a new bed.  I've been reading online reviews which almost have me more confused than when I first began.  I've looked at Tempurpedic but feel that they are too hard (except for the new "cloud") and too expensive.  I also hear that they are often hot.  Living in Texas, that probably wouldn't be a wise choice.  Comforpedic seems to address the "too hot" issue, but they are also very pricey.  I'm not sure I'm willing to spend that much right now.

I like the softer feel of a latex bed, but have read that IF it is composed mostly of polyurethane, durability may be an issue and it may develop an impression.  The Dr. Breus beds seem nice, but are apparently mostly polyurethane (I'll check the tag the next time I go in).  Forum talk also indicates that they are overpriced although they are considerably less expensive than the Tempurpedic and Comforpedic beds.  I also looked at an Origins bed manufactured by Internat'l Bedding Corp as well.  It is considerably cheaper which is appealing but scares me.  I don't want to pay an overinflated price, but I've also learned that you often get what you pay for.

I am definitely interested in transitioning to a foam bed of some sort.  I have been told that foam beds are better for back pain and such.  I am recovering from shoulder surgery and have a history of back problems as well.  That's what happens when you aren't smart enough to stop playing sports even though you're too old. :P

Many of the mattress businesses I see referenced in this forum are in the northeast.  I'm in Texas.  Any suggestions...besides moving?

Use the "Search" function to search for Texas or Houston or Dallas.  I'm almost positive that Phoenix posted a list of Texas locations that sell latex.  I believe he also bought his mattress near Fort Worth.  It was a custom designed that he wanted.  Also search for Phoenix's posts.....there are many but it might be worth looking.  There were many locations.

He is no longer using this forum so don't wait for a reply from him but he left lots of good information.
