We actually added about 2 inches of latex to the top of our Select Comfort once the  foam on their topper compressed badly.  This helped out for a while and was quite comfortable. ...

I don't have any personal experience with this but I don't see why not. Seems to me a firm air mattress would not behave a lot differently from a firm foam core. Actually, I seem to remember reading a post here recently from someone who replaced the cheap foam on their Select Comfort with latex and were happy with the result. 2" of soft latex from FoamByMail will set you back less than $200. 3" wouldn't be too much for a side sleeper. Just my opinion, for what it's worth. Others here have more experience with toppers on existing mattresses than I do....

Beware that many if not most of these "buyer's guides" have a hidden agenda of promoting a particular product. On the page you linked, notice how only two brands are mentioned by name, Tempur-Pedic and Comfor-Pedic. On the FAQ page they just happen to mention three features of the Comfor-Pedic product - at least 3.5" of memory foam, edge support, and a latex layer, which deftly eliminates one of the two brands mentioned by name on the other page. The reader is left with one choice - Comfor-Pedic.

According to this link Chuck Harmon, owner of the aformentioned domain name, is a part owner of the Tahoe Mattress Company, which just happens to sell...Comfor-Pedic.

How about this one: whatsthebest-mattress.org - self-proclaimed "The Web's Non-Profit Consumer Advocacy Site". It's nothing more than an ad for SAT beds, equating their name with the "name brand" mattresses" DUX, Boyd, Natura, Tempur-Pedic,...

Thanks for the help.  Sounds like the guy I spoke with was this Kevin guy, the owner.  He was an a** on the phone so that fits.  Bummer about the bed and Select Comfort doesn't get good ratings either.  There is an Intelli-bed store near my office, I may go look at one of those since they seem to get good reviews here and at Epinions.  Thanks....
Select Comfort with a topper - design134

Hello everyone I am a first time viewer of this forum.
Has anyone used a latex topper, with any success, on top of an air mattress?
I read that with a conventional latex mattress set some had problems choosing the correct core foundation as well as the layer(s). I am not very comfortable with the Select mattress, I have used for the past 13 years, anymore. I cannot get comfortable probably due to the compression of a couple of discs in my lower back along with the arthritis I now have. With money now being an issue could I salvage the air mattress and put a layer or layers of latex that might help me from tossing and turning all night long. I am 6'3" 230 lbs. My wife is 5'4" tall. She can sleep on just about anything as soon as her...
Englander Laytex in Southern California - BillyBob_jcv

Hi Everyone - I'm new to the forum, and I hope I can make my first post a good one...

I have been researching and shopping for a Latex Eastern King to replace to our 12 year old Simmons.  I have been mining the old WTB-M forum, and googling, and I've visited the 5 largest shops in my area.  So far, my wife is dead set against me trying to build out a set of cores at sleepez.com or the other online foam favorites.  So, that limits me to local stores.  The selection is pretty thin in mattresses with Latex cores - it appears to be Englander, Serta Vera Wang or Sealy Spring Free.  We did NOT like the Serta or the Sealy - all the models on the showroom were too soft and/or too plush.  We have seen an Englander that we liked - it was quilted, but it did...
Any way to salvage our Sealy Reflexion Huntington mattress? - jefflackey

Our king mattress - two mattresses ago - lasted about 12 years, but then developed such deep body impressions my wife and I both woke up every morning in extreme pain. So I studied, read reviews, researched, read the forums here, and after months of that selected a Sealy Reflexion Latex mattress (KIng) in the hopes of having a mattress that would be comfortable, give us a good night's sleep, and resist body impressions (We're about 170 lbs for me, 140 lbs for her.) It felt WONDERFUL and we slept extremely well - but after only about 6 months some body impressions were starting to form, and the support started to feel not so great. Nothing deep enough for Sealy to do anything about it, though.

Now, it's 3 years later, and we wake up every morning sore and achey. We do not have the money right now to replace...

Whichever way you decide to go, latex kit, Hastens or Select Comfort, remember to stay away from polyurethane. Read the tag to be sure. If there is even as little as 1% polyurethane foam, look for another mattress.

Buying sight unseen is something I hate doing but that's just the way it is with the internet and anything mail order. That being said, I won't ever be comfortable enough to go sight unseen with the purchase of a car. Too much risk.  At least with a kit mattress you can ship the whole thing back FedEx ground and wash your hands of it.

Good luck with your decision!...

DH and myself are very interested in the SleepEZ Select Sleep 10000, but DH is nervous about buying a mattress before we try it.  Is there another brand of latex mattress out there similar to the SleepEZ that we can try out in person?  We have tried the King Koil Natural Response line in the showroom and they did feel very comfortable, but I have read a lot of less-than-favorable reviews on them in the long-term.  We live near Astoria, OR.  Thank you ...
