Re: Any way to salvage our Sealy Reflexion Huntington mattress? - haysdb

Is it truly a lack of support, or does the mattress just feel too firm?

A topper can soften a mattress that's too firm, but can't add support.

A mattress is (typically) composed of a support layer on the bottom, in the form of a coil unit, foam, air, or water, and one or more comfort layers on top which are softer. Once the support breaks down, there just isn't a lot you can do. This is probably not the case, but check to make sure it's not the foundation that has failed on each side. Unlikely, but it's also something you can definitively confirm or rule out quickly.

Latex should not form body impressions and is unlikely to be the culprit, but the manufacturer most likely did not use ALL latex (because it's expensive), but some other, cheaper foams. That doesn't help you any though - you still have impressions regardless of...

Hmm, its so hard to buy beds now that they are such expensive purchases. I actually like the idea of a latex bed and liked the Sealy Springless mattress.
SleepEz and Flobeds are just a bit too much for me as they are almost $3,000 for a California King size.

I was hoping the costco one would be a cheaper alternative :)

SleepEZ should be considerably less than that. I assume you are including one of these company's foundations?...

I had to laugh when you described the salesman. You are SO right about that! I think they teach this tactic at Mattress Salesperson School.

The other day I was actually surprised when I walked into this place called Mattress Discounters. The female salesperson actually didn't impose her "knowledge" on me! In fact, she was mightily impressed with all the "mattress terms" I was throwing out. She said I should work in a mattress store! I told her I've researched them starting since the late '70s, back when I knew every coil count of every brand! But, now with the internet, it's even easier to do our homework. Anyway, it was refreshing to have someone who didn't hover and stalk. Although....I DID notice she seemed to like the Tempurpedic and wanted me to lay on those. Hmmmm... :-)

By the way, Sleepsound, how did you insert those little smiley (and not-so-smiley-faces)...

This is all great info. I was considering the sealy latex before I purchased my Spring Air.  Then I found out that the Sealy latex is 100% synthetic.  That closed my mind to that brand. I just feel that at least some natural latex  is better.  I am glad to have read a review from someone who felt they had to change their once rave review. This helps us all learn.

As far as replacing a mattress goes, I don't care if the mattress company has to replace the mattress 3 times in the 10 warranty period. If I get a new mattress every 2 or 3 years because their product failed, great! I would demand the company stand behind the warranty they put in place. After that time , I will be happy to buy a new mattress. After spending over $2000 on a mattress, it had better hold up as...

Great idea sillymom! Here's mine: Sealy Reflexion - Newport Beach. I'd posted a review (a stellar one, at that) shortly after purchasing it in 2004 - so check that out - compared to NOW :-D...

REVIEWED BED: Sealy Reflexion - Newport Beach (fairly plush latex - I forget the configuration now - sorry).
PERIOD OF TIME: About 3 years
VICTIMS: Me - 49 year old 90 lb woman with mild/moderate scoliosis (double curve 40/40), DDD lower lumbar, osteoporosis (no pain from that as I have no breaks - but I figured I'd mention it anyway) - so LOTS of pain below the waist CONSTANTLY - some days/times worse than others.Husband - 52 year old 168 lb. man in excellent shape (runs & swims daily!) - but has typical aches & pains most 52 year old people have.

After some time on the Newport bed - unfortunately, I am not sure WHEN, it went from...
Englander Laytex in Southern California - BillyBob_jcv

Hi Everyone - I'm new to the forum, and I hope I can make my first post a good one...

I have been researching and shopping for a Latex Eastern King to replace to our 12 year old Simmons.  I have been mining the old WTB-M forum, and googling, and I've visited the 5 largest shops in my area.  So far, my wife is dead set against me trying to build out a set of cores at sleepez.com or the other online foam favorites.  So, that limits me to local stores.  The selection is pretty thin in mattresses with Latex cores - it appears to be Englander, Serta Vera Wang or Sealy Spring Free.  We did NOT like the Serta or the Sealy - all the models on the showroom were too soft and/or too plush.  We have seen an Englander that we liked - it was quilted, but it did...

I met Shawn personally down at the factory showroom, and you are right, he knows his stuff. I am kicking myself very hard in the butt, because I'd already purchased a Dormia from Sleep Savvy, before I'd discovered Sleepez.  I could've have purchased TWO of the sleepez for one Dormia! But I was stuck and couldn't get my money back. Well, at least I do enjoy my Dormia and sleep well on it.

I purchase a twin topper for my girl's bed, her current mattress is a very firm Sealy from Costco, only 2 yrs. old, so it will make it bearable until I can afford to take the topper and get it made into a proper twin mattress. I can also get a discount off the complete twin mattress, so I feel I haven't lost any money there. I tell everyone I meet about Sleepez, they have a great product...
Latex Bed for a big guy -- and a question for Haysdb - novahelp

I am a big & athletic guy -- I am 215lbs 6'5" of muscle not fat (i am not bragging, just trying to give my body type :) )

A couple years ago I tried building a cheaperpedic bed as described in the fatwallet forums. I got the 3" FBM topper (not the 5.5lb density), and the JCPenny 5" Extra-firm base.  I had trouble with it as I just sank through the thing completely!  I left the 3" on my old crappy mattrress and I really liked what the FBM topper did for me.  Pressure point reduction.

I really like the feel of memory foam and I tried the Tempur  Deluxe in a store this week, real nice!  But the heat build up from memory foam drives me nuts, and I was getting hot in the store after just 10 minutes of laying on it.  Also, the fact that you...

Any way to salvage our Sealy Reflexion Huntington mattress? - jefflackey

Our king mattress - two mattresses ago - lasted about 12 years, but then developed such deep body impressions my wife and I both woke up every morning in extreme pain. So I studied, read reviews, researched, read the forums here, and after months of that selected a Sealy Reflexion Latex mattress (KIng) in the hopes of having a mattress that would be comfortable, give us a good night's sleep, and resist body impressions (We're about 170 lbs for me, 140 lbs for her.) It felt WONDERFUL and we slept extremely well - but after only about 6 months some body impressions were starting to form, and the support started to feel not so great. Nothing deep enough for Sealy to do anything about it, though.

Now, it's 3 years later, and we wake up every morning sore and achey. We do not have the money right now to replace...
