Thanks,

I suggest you read the Highlighted Threads in the forum to get some basic info about mattresses.

Basically all S brands are plagued with problems, and pillowtops especially present problems. None of the S Brands are made to last very long, they use too much lousy low quality foam instead of using more quality materials.

I must conclude that I just happened to sleep either side or back (I do some of both) that matched the combo on the "good" night.

Firm is better for when I am on my back, not quite that firm to accommodate the curvature of the spine when on my side.

I may never sleep well again, because I have no control over whether sleep on side or back, and have no solution yetl.

Some orthopods who have posted say only muscle exercises and strenght training will correct the problem.

Working on that but haven't given up the mattress chase.

One unescapable problem with more elaborate solutions such as this is that they more perfectly you make a bed fit in one position, the more pure hell you make it in every other. That's why they try to make beds out of materials that can self adjust rather than fit beds perfectly to the user like giant orthotics!   I suppose if you side slept absolutely ALL the time it might be nice but most side sleepers I know don't, and it looks like it would be very weird in other positions. But I may try to crude attempt to duplicate it, as suggested, just for fun...

The ECO memory foam contour pillows from Costco.com are pretty good. (NOT the soft Novaform contour pillows they sell in the store. Those are crap.) Very nice support under my neck for side sleeping. I prefer my wife's Tempurpedic neck pillow a little better, so I finally broke down and bought one. Mucho dinero. But, the ECO pillow was the second best that I found. And, I've been through a few in my quest.

The best thing about Costco.com is that you can return it to your local Costco, if you don't like it.

I just remembered. The reason I returned one of the neck pillows I had tried, the Luxurest from Absolute Comfort, was that I thought it was too firm. That might be just what you need! http://www.absolutecomfortonsale.com/orthopedicfoampillow.htm...

I have major spine issues, and personally I cannot stand foam.. I am now sleeping on a good coil innerspring with a thin layer of memory foam topped by a virgin wool comforter and a featherbed, and I am sleeping 8 hours without waking for the first time in 6 years. I understand how individual this is, but I do find that all of us with stenosis who are forced to sleep on our sides need serious orthopedic support topped by a supersoft layer that allows the shoulders and hips to maintain circulation, and materials that do not retain heat. what the pile is made up of will vary for each of us somewhat, and weight is a big consideration. at 92 lbs I do not sink into anything except a really terrible mattress. I just hate materials that are not natural. I will be replacing the memory foam layer...

bummer that they will not let you go with the higher end brands. as a stomach sleeper you need Firm bigtime or you are going to ginch your back immediately. either latex or the stearns and foster extended life with the 12 3/4 gauge coil would work for you. of what else is left, hard to say. have the store look through their specs and find you a mattress with a 12 1/2 or 12 3/4 gauge coil. otherwise they do sell a designer serta latex that you might be able to get in a firm density. they are not giving you a lot of options. simmons makes the softest mattress out there and it would kill your back. you could never tolerate it. so I would nix that right away.

ps - ask for the specs on any mattress that calls itself "orthopedic" . there are several...

you seem to be looking for a traditional innerspring. try to find a local mattress maker. ask them to show you something without polyurethane foam in it and an orthopedic grade strong coil system - open offset, not bonnell. try the beds  out. you will spend a lot less money and come away with a bed much more durable than an S brand. even the high end sealys are now stuffed with a mountain of poly foam, and it just does not last. other brands in their top of the line models do sell mattresses with cotton, wool and latex inside, but you are going to pay through the nose for them - 3 to 5000. for 500 a local mattress maker can build you one to your specific needs. and usually the warranty means something from them, unlike the commercial brands which refuse to honor them in any case....

Hi. I'm new here. I'm trying to decide between several beds. First choice (Flobed) is way out of my price range so I can't even consider it.

Other choices after trying them in the store are either a Tempur-pedic or the Serta Vera Wang Serene Sophistication Euro Top. It's also known as the Serene Splendor and other names (names vary for the same bed).

The Serta felt better than the TP in the store, but I haven't been able to find many reviews about how it feels after sleeping on it for several weeks/months/years. The Serta is all memory foam. I tried a couple of their latex beds, but didn't find them to be very comfortable. Their MF bed is 3" Kool Comfort MF (5 lb) bonded to 10" high densiity 5 lb foam core. What I have not been able to find out is what...

I am looking for the same thing.  I want a 2-sided firm support traditional mattress w/ box spring, and I don't want any pillow top, memory foam, baffle and dazzle, etc.   I will look at The Original Mattress Factory's lineup, but I am within a 1 hour drive of their store.     You have them in Richmond, if that isn't too far to go.   I have slept on an OMF mattress several times as a guest.  It's not the orthopedic but I don't know which one it is.   The owners said they paid $500 - $600 new for the queen set, more than 5 years ago.   So, just have to go try the ones at the store and see what the firm ones are like.    I really, really liked it.

Imperial Bedding out of Huntington, WV, also makes 2-sided.  I have local store here that carries them, but...
