We tried some Sealy Spring Free and the pillowtops were comfortable.  The best prices I've found on this type of mattress are at Costco.com, the Stearns & Foster Kirkland Series, and Samsclub.com, who has a model by Serta with latex and memory foam called Grand Villa with a cashmere top.   We live in a pretty small town, so don't have much to choose from locally and the prices are usually higher.

We're looking for one that has memory foam with a latex core and a natural cover.  Not in a kit, preferably a pillowtop.  If it should smash down, and there is no saying it will,...
Re: What are the pros & cons of sleeping on a latex mattress? What does a latex mattress feel like? - BeddyBye

Probably for most people the pocketed coils were fine for support. Dan, my mattress guy just thought that maybe they were too conforming of a coil for me. So he felt the LuraFlex might be a better match. I think he was right. Although, I'll never know for sure. It could have just been my initial response to latex. Or a new mattress, period. Either way, I do feel like the LuraFlex coil is a bit firmer, hecnce more supportive. You sound like me leaning towards a coil/latex combination. I really do wish you could easily pop into Bay Bed and Mattress to check out the type of set-up I have. I think you would be pleased.

Wading through the latex info... (and avoiding a kit) - blaupunk

Greetings..  I'm in the market for a new mattress and have been wading through all the thoughtful commentary on this board..  There's a lot of technical info within and a lot of folks with a far stronger need/desire to spend the time customizing and re-customizing their mattress for that perfect fit..  With that said, I'm wondering if anyone would take a moment to help answer a few basic questions:

1 - If possible, I'd prefer *not* to go the kit route.  If I can walk into a store (in NYC) and buy a quality latex mattress, I'd be thrilled.  I've seen the Serta (Vera Wang), Spring Free (Sealy) and Nature's Rest at Sleepy's. (I think I liked the Vera Wang best thus far).   I know I can check out the Stearns & Foster and at least a few Englanders and Naturas locally.  Given these options, does one brand/line stand out from the others...

I wonder if there are other local stores around who are doing the same thing. I'll never buy another "readymade" mattress again, especially if it starts with an "S".

BeddyBye, I just checked out the www.baybed.com web site. I wish my local stores sold mattresses like the ones on baybed, with pocketed coils or just the regular coils with latex for the comfort layers. With a baybed mattress, do the pocketed coils give your back enough support? I had a Beautyrest with the individually pocketed coils, and my back suffered, but the mattress had soft PU foams for comfort layers. From what I see on baybed's site, it looks like their pocketed coil system is far superior to that of Beautyrest.  Anyway, too bad I don't live anywhere near baybed's store or I'd check them out.

I have been to several local mattress stores...

Costco Sealy "Sedona Springs Ultra Plush" mattress...I'm at my wit's end with mattresses! - centralpark

First off, I should reveal that I prefer sleeping on my back or on my stomach. I'm about 5'6", in the 130 pound range. I slept on a Sealy Posturepedic mattress for about 19 years that never gave me a problem (I added a foam topper to it), but I let the mattress delivery men take it away when my new Simmons Beautyrest Exceptionale plush mattress was delivered a year or so ago. If I had known then what I know now about the mattressses of today, I would have happily kept my old mattress. The Beautyrest was uncomfortable and didn't provide enough back support...when I slept on my stomach, my back was arching forward too much. I tried a Simmons Westin Heavenly Bed which is a pillowtop mattress that receives rave reviews...I would wake up every morning with lower back pain, but as soon as I got out of bed, the back pain disappeared. When I would wake up on that mattress, I...

Have you looked at Sealy's Spring Free line? They sell all synthetic latex mattresses with different options for toppers. Stearns & Foster makes the same beds with fancier covers and higher price tags. The big question is the lifespan of the all synthetic latex. It has only been out a couple of years.

You might want to stick with a firm mattress top with no attached topper rather than a Euro/Pillow/Plush top. You can add a removable topper if you think you need one.

We still love the mattress after a couple of nights. I am REALLY glad we got the soft top layer. It is really quite firm. Most companies do call a 30 ILD a Medium or even Medium/Firm. And we did try both sides of the the pieces of latex and prefer the soft side up. I had my husband's side with the firmer side up and my side with the soft side up for a little while to see if we could tell the difference. There was a slight difference but enough to bother making both sides with the soft side up. We left the bottom firm layer with the firm side up and put the soft side up for the middle and top layers.

I don't know if Talalay is like this - but the Dunlop has sort of a skin or “crust” like bread around the uncut surfaces. The...
Re: can someone help me narrow my mattress choices? Kingsdown, Comforpedic, or Simmons Beautyrest - LPAD

thank you mattressmom.  Funny enough, when we went out (yet again) for some mattress shopping we both agreed that we like a latex bed.  We looked at the Stearns and Foster tropical oasis line as well as the king koil.  I'm not convinced about the king koil yet because the firmest one was too firm and the plush one *may* be too plush.  Both of the King Koil models kind of felt like I think a waterbed might feel like (having never been on a waterbed I can't be sure but that was my impression when I laid on it).

I am intrigued by the mail order kits but I'm not sure I really want to go their either.  I would have to do this all on my own time as DH already thinks i'm insane (he lays on a mattress for 10sec before determining if he likes it or...

Hello,

I am new to this forum and have been through all the trials and tribulations of bed each of you have.  Currently; I am replacing a failed Stearns and Foster under warranty.  I can't get money back but can make another bed choice.  I am sick of coil mattresses for all the reasons I have read on this forum.  I am/was considering either a Tempurpedic or Sleep Number bed.  My concern with Tempurpedic is the heat factor.  Yesterday; I was told by a sales person, who had sold beds for two years, that she had never had anyone say a Tempurpedic was hot.  I wondered if the materials have changed because there are egg crate layers in the beds now vs the first ones.

Does anyone have updated information regarding the heat factor with Tempurpedic?

I would consider the Sleep Number bed but do not like the ones...
