Re: How to soften my Shifman? - amysue30

Thanks CitySkies.  Thing is though, with the flipping and turning that you have to do with the bed (which I do see as a plus and one of the reasons I bought it) how do you ever break it in fully and quickly?  You keep changing the sides you sleep on every month or so  and would then go back to a hard side again right?  Also, tell me about your concerns regarding the flame retardants.  I had the Kingsdown bed with a lot of latex and my allergies were horrible with it.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the many replies and conversation about the problem I am having.  I was waiting to see what happened with a few nights on the fiberbed.  Now, when I say fiberbed I mean a fake fiberfill topper that I purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond.  I have allergies so I decided to try this before a feather one or foam.  So, I have slept on it for a few nights and would love to report significant progress, but....I like the feel of the cushy topper because the tight top of my mattress lacks softness.  I was hoping that it would relieve the pressure points that I obviously have in my shoulders.  Unfortunately, I woke up this morning with my entire left arm frozen and numb and my other shoulder bothering me. This has happened a couple of times while sleeping on the...

How to soften my Shifman? - amysue30
Sep 29, 2010 4:08 PM
Hi

I ditched my problematic Kingsdown and bought a Shifman Renoir.  It came yesterday and I slept on it last night.  This morning I woke up with my left shoulder and arm completely numb, usually a sign for me that my mattress is too hard and aggravating the pressure point.  Now, I know it has been one night, but I am nervous that it is too firm, despite this being their softest mattress.  So, what do I do to soften this up if I continue to have shoulder pain? Do I get a latex topper or feather/fiber bed and which one, from what company? I am fairly small at 5'3 130 pounds.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am upset that now I might have an uncomfortable mattress and hard time sleeping.

Thanks

Amy

I would try a topper, but the mattress is so high as it is that it is almost over my footboard.  I struggle to get in the thing! If I put a topper on it the height would be even worse.  Good question on the zoning--I don't know.  The first two Kingsdown  were very comfortable for me despite their inevitable decline.  They seem to have changed something where the top just does not feel good to me. I will ask someone about the zoning. Thanks.

Re: Green Sleep Coil + Latex - terra3

In Canada, "The Mattress and Sleep Shop".  I ended up ordering the Allegra.  Incredible support and comfy for this cat.  Good for my ailing back.  I went into the shop with no intent to ever pursue a coil mattress again after a dismal short run with an expensive Kingsdown, including equally dismal product support (or lack of).  So Natura Rest was the item I focused on and very nearly purchase . . . also very good for myself.  But upon laying on the Allegra . . . bliss.  Spent a while on it as it is quite firm, but the comfort was so good.  Thought for quite a while whether to chance a coil-based mattress again, recalling some comments on this board about the availability of 'good' coil construction, combined with good upper layering, from a few companies that take the time to do so.  I believe this Co is...

"Do I have to be concerned about low quality p/u foam?"

I would be given both the thickness of the mattress and that the 800 clearly has a generous helping of it. I would at the very least find out exactly what is in it.

I would also do a search online as there are quite a few reviews. Even the Sleepys website doesn't have the greatest reviews .... and they're selling it.

The Dr. Breus Bed (Talalay Latex) - cazual
Oct 25, 2010 7:51 PM
Hello all, still on my hunt for a good bed.  My wife and I were originally looking at a Kingsdown Sleep to Live 800 Series (red/blue), but after reading some reviews we were a little skid dish and decided to look at a latex bed.  Now I know there are a lot of on-line companies like Sleepez and FloBeds, but buying a bed untested from an online retailer just is a little too inconvenient as we have to deal with shipping cost if we get the firmness wrong.  So we went back to my local Sleepy’s to look at what they have to offer for latex beds.  Turns our they just received the new line of Dr. Breus latex beds that same day which are made by IBC.  We tried all five models and narrowed it down to two.  As this is a brand new line of beds it is hard for me to find on-line detailed specs.  I...

Hello everyone I am a newbie to the forum and seek guidance and help.

My wife and I were in Sleepy's the other day and tested out the Sleep to Live 800 series.  Can anyone give me some insight on the quality of the materials used?  Do I have to be concerned about low quality p/u foam?  Thanks in advance.

Re: Dilemma with replacing Sealy Collamore w/a Sealy Embody. Help! - tommygun715

Okay, I'm going to need some more feedback.  We went to Mattress Giant today to try and narrow our options, leaning toward the Embody by Sealy.  We were a little taken off guard when the sales staff they would do an even exchange for ANY of their Simmons, Sealy (latex or inner spring), or Sterns and Foster; regardless if the price was higher.  So instead of just replacing our mattress, they would also replace the box spring/foundation.  That totals $2100 ($1735 for the defective Collamore mattress, $365 for the box spring).  If we refused the even exchange, we could put the $2100 toward either the tempurpedic, or the Kingsdown.  With all the nightmare stories I've read on this forum regarding pillowtop mattresses, polyfoam cores, fillers, etc..., we have now shifted our focus to the tempurpedic deluxe.  The only catch, we would have to pay a $1100 upgrade.  I maybe crazy...
Simmons Comforpedic vs. Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme vs. KIngsdown 600 - mc60
Jan 31, 2011 5:58 PM
I am in the final stages of deciding which bed to get.  I have been shopping at Sleepys and have whiltted my choices down to these three beds.  I am 5' 11" / 185 pounds.  My wife is normal size and weight.  She is a great sleeper on any bed.  I have some minor lower back issues.  I love the feeling of the Cloud Supreme and really would like to buy it.  I have read some posts on this blog that have raised some potential concerns about long term comfort.  I also tend to be a hot sleeper and am concerned about this as it relates to the Tempurpedic.  I tried the Simmons Comforpedic and found it to be extremely comfortable and comparable to the Cloud Supreme.  I like the combination of memory foam and latex.  It is theoretically designed to sleep cooler.  It is also the most expensive of all...
