Re: Offgassing half-life for regular spring mattresses? - lookingnow

First off, I can't find how to subscribe to threads on this board. Suggestions anyone?
i have learned a lot in the past weeks about the safety of fire retardents etc. Bottom line is, they're filled with formaldehyde, VOCs and other cancer-causing chemicals. Dr. Oz happened to do a show on it the other day (which is NOT where I did my research but I say this to point out the growing outcry against them. He says he is not comfortable having his family around these FRs.)
laws will change soon but NOT for mattresses...that may take years. FRs will probably sooner no longer required in other products.
My Simmons Beautysleep was outside for about a month. The first 48 hours helped a lot but the odor (to me) was still so overpowering that I had to put it outside for...
Please help - Tried Temperpedic and other mattress options - still causing back pain - amindu
Jan 17, 2014 6:17 AM
Hello All
I am hoping someone can help me with my issue. We currently have a temperpedic allura, and i feel like its causing me lower back pain, I am 5'11 275, she is 5'4 120. We tried the simmons bryanna and it was horrible way too soft. I am thoroughly confused as to which bed would be a good fit, or maybe a traditional mattress would be the best option. I have back and neck pain due to car accidents. Anyone have any advice, thank you in advance.

Thank you Sandman... both models are Tight tops...Kingsdown Rockwell and Simmons Beautyrest Essence... I tried them out again, but undecided... on the Simmons I feel more pushed up in the hip area... even though it may be in my head.. and on the Kingsdown I feel more padding, less shoulder discomfort... Thats the thing with the Essence, I can add a topper to it... the Kingsdown should be fine without one.... but I don't know if it will hold up as it was recently placed on the floor. but the kingsdown definitely feels more comfy that I wouldn't have to use a topper... ...
Beautyrest or alternatives, spinal fusion disc issues - npfd

Hi there,
I had a spinal fusion, top to bottom done in my early teens, now late 20s. I've been having disc degeneration issues in the lumbar area, and suggested to get a firm mattress.
I've been going to mattress stores for about a month now. First with the salesperson we settled on a firm memoryfoam, Sealy Soleil. After consulting a few mattress sites, some say that memory foam is not ideal for the problems i'm having. I realize this after that memory foam is hard for me to move and get up on.... Since then I've changed my order twice, haven't taken delivery yet.
I believe I've narrowed it to two models, budget allowing too....
Both double:
Mattresses equivalent to Four Seasons Hotel's Stearns & Foster, Simmons beds? - mattressHunter
Mar 17, 2014 7:16 AM
I know that Four Seasons Hotels used to have custom mattresses made by Stearns & Foster, and are now switching to a Simmons model. I slept on the former - best sleep ever - and would like to buy an equivalent in King or Cal King. Four Seasons does sell their beds directly - albeit at rather steep prices. Therefore, I wonder if I could find the same (or very similar) models by both manufacturers, at other retailers. I know that the hotel would say that their beds are custom and unavailable elsewhere. But I am guessing (nay, hoping, and could be wrong) that they are derivations of other, more widely available models.
Does anyone know which models from both Stearns & Foster and Simmons most closely resemble those offered by the Four Seasons? For example are S&F Lake Shore...

Yes, Kirk was able to get me more information. Interestingly, he personally dislikes latex mattresses as
he finds them too hot.
There are differences with Gardner and other mattress manufactures in some respects. Yes, their quality is high given the money. He thinks manufacturers like Simmons have gone downhill in the last 15 years. He also acknowledges that manufacturers like ViSpring are on a whole other level of quality and they're not trying to compete. He mentions the amount of handwork in ViSpring mattresses in every aspect of the manufacturing, something that Gardner can't afford to do at their prices. Also, for the cotton/wool mattress, Gardner takes their standard pocket coil base, adds another 2" pocket coil layer, then adds two layers of cotton and one layer of wool. Some manufacturers such as Royal-Pedic might wrap the cotton fully with wool, and even do a 2-sided mattress. Gardner...
Any Thoughts On Gardner Mattress (or Any Brand, Actually) Cotton/Wool Over Pocket Coil Mattress? - AnalogJ

I'm new to the forum (but have been poking around). We went to Gardner Mattress, which is located in Salem, where we live. They have a very good reputation.
We are looking for a mattress using pocket coils in order to isolate movement. We have been using a Simmons Beautyrest (I'm not sure of the exact model, but it was a pillow-topped model and has served us well.). One note -- We're primarily side sleepers. My wife and I occasionally will sleep on our backs, while she, at times, sleeps on her stomach. I weigh about 225 lbs, and that seems to weigh into choice of support material. I have been getting some back issues as I get older, so proper support and a good night's sleep is important.
Gardner offers three varieties of...

Npfd. Did you decide? Sandman is absolutely correct. You must trust and verify. He also mentioned avoiding pillowtops because you cannot make them more firm.
Your challenge is to find a...
Re: Mattress surgury or buy new? - mattdud

Dear Forum users,
I am hoping to get some help from the people on this forum to decide whether I should attempt surgery on my Beautyrest masttress or just buy a new one. The mattress is 6 years old and appears to be the equivalent of the currently selling Simmons Beautyrest World class recharge. I want to get something new or fix the one I have because I am a side sleeper and the last two years I have been getting neck pains when I try to sleep and my arm is falling asleep. I attribute this to the large impression that has formed where I sleep. I have seen several great discussions regarding the surgery route and though from the research on foams that I have done on the internet show the cost that look like it could...
