Jim, thanks for all the information, it is really helping me quite a bit.

-You're quite welcome!

So where did you find your Englander mattress?  I went around to a few stores here this weekend, and only a couple of them had Englander mattresses.  The lowest spring gauge i could find was 12-3/4.  What I want is the cheapest Englander mattress I can find with 12.5 gauge coil (cal-king size).  I'm guessing i can find something for under $800.

-I would not worry too much about 12.5 vs. 12.75 springs. There may not be that much difference. If you weigh over 200lb, maybe the 12.5 would be best, otherwise it may not matter that much. Your best bet is to just look on the net or phone book under mattresses and call around and ask if they carry Englander. If they don't, tell them...

First of all, while some people certainly DO like Tempurpedic many of us here would say it does not give enough support for anyone who is at all sensitive, with mattress or sleep issues. I tried one and the first 2-4 nights I loved it. After a week it was killing me. Yes, the feel of the foam - the support of the foam - changed that quickly. I took it back.

Now as for this one, I checked it out and here's what it says it is made of:
  • 14” Visco/latex mattress fits the dimensions of your bed
  • Meets the requirements of 16 CFR Part 1633 - Federal flammability (open flame) standards

Jim, thanks for all the information, it is really helping me quite a bit.

i am completely convinced that the expensive mattresses are a scam.  They might be slightly better, but nothing to justify the cost.  And after seeing the surgery pictures, there's no rocket science to these things.  it's clear that the mattress industry gets by...
Re: Sleep Science Ara Foam Mattress at Costco- Question of a cover - bradco
Jul 25, 2009 8:05 AM
Well- let me update my post:  the bed just arrived today & it appeared that the bamboo cover *is* sewn into the mattress.  After looking further, I see that it is zippered- in along the *bottom* edge of the mattress, at the foundation.  There are care instructions as follows:

1. Remove zippered cover from mattress or foundation  (my note: well, it's zippered around the mattress, not the foundation)
2. Hand wash or machine wash cover- fabric side only- on gentle cycle  (my note: I'm assuming that when you unzipper, you get 2 separate pieces)
*PVC side is NOT machine washable (my note: they must be referring to the piece under the mattress)
3. Dry on gentle air cycle
4. Do not submerge or soak the foam
5. Foam & PVC side may be spot cleaned with a wet cloth & mild soap or detergent
6. Foam should air dry for 24-48 hours before covering

Well these instructions...

I actually just bought the Celeste from Costco. It was delivered within a week from my order (came from same state). It seems like a high quality bed with very good support. It is a bit too firm for me though, so I probably will have to add a topper. Not sure if it will soften up much. Since it starts at 14", it will be very thick if I add any more layers. I am not too excited about that aspect (since I don't have a low profile platform box spring), so I may end up returning and try a latex bed. For my taste, I would have made it with less base foam and more memory foam.

too firm?

i called the company and they said it was their firmest, which is what i may need....

i wonder what...
