Re: FloBeds Natural Talalay convoluted topper - Lynn2006

I have clients that told me about FloBeds last February and then in May 2007 I bought my FloBed mattress and I have been happy and especially love their new zippered mattress cover they send me a few months ago. I am the type of person who likes very firm beds and I was confortable sleeping on the floor over the Overstock 1" convoluted Soft Latex topper over a 1/2" exercise matt with a mattress pad on top when my platform bed fell apart until my busy season ended and I had time to order a bed and have time to find the right comfort level. I am telling you this, since I could only sleep on a 1" topper and anything thicker was too soft for me over my very firm layers of latex. But of course I am not quite 5 feet and about 100 lbs so I...

I love my mattress case that has a little bit of a give and protects the latex and makes my mattress look like a conventional mattress. This is the 2nd case FloBeds sent me and it is just perfect for my Latex bed in my opinion. I like how it has protection on the sides so the zipper will not catch onto the latex like former mattress cover. Dave said he switched supplies to get the better mattress cover and this is what he sells now. It is organic cotton with wool inside and feels good. I would try the case the mattress came with again also and keep the layers firm with a less thick topper over the layers.
I slept wonderful last night with putting my 1" topper over my 39 ILD over the 36 ILD (was on top but put it in the middle) over the 44...

I got the same 25% off coupon so I decided to use it today to buy the Talalay latex topper since maybe it averages out to 32 ILD 1" and then I can ask Dave if he can get me a 1" soft latex topper on top of this (f he can't I will just live with my Overstock Topper until it is not usable) and then I can move up my 44 ILD latex core to the middle of my three latex cores so that I have 36 ILD over 44 ILD over 39 ILD. I will let you know how I like the topper.
My toppers from Dave at FloBeds have been all 100% natural latex so I am hoping that the blended so close to the top of the mattress will be OK. I have had no problems with the blended latex 44 ILD latex cores so far while...

Novahelp, before ordering my FloBed, I was sleeping on the floor on top of the 1" latex topper I bought from Overstock by the recommendations of my Decorating Site to try out latex. My platform bed with drawers underneath it that was 14 years old had collapsed (that goodness I was not sleeping on it) and the painter never returned my phone calls to put it back together since he moved it when he was painting. I needed a new mattress anyway and a real bedroom set so I let my client (who referred the painter) take it apart and I went shopping for a bed around President's Day in February. I was lied to by the Rockaway store that the sample Roosevelt Mattress had no Polyurethane Foam in it and was all natural latex. I was so sick the first night with the outgassing in my small enclosed bedroom...
Re: can someone help me narrow my mattress choices? Kingsdown, Comforpedic, or Simmons Beautyrest - mattressmom

LPAD, I agree that you were greeted with less than helpful and respectful responses. But it is really hard for anyone to make a very specific recommendation. We all have our nuanced opinions that may or may not be appropriate for you. You might not be able to find what you are looking for locally. You might be forced to look into buying from the internet unless you are lucky enough to live near a retailer that sells what you are looking for based on your research. If you are looking for positive recommendations and comments about mainstream brand mattresses, you probably came to the wrong place. Most people here would not recommend those kinds of mattresses - especially the three S brands. I've never heard of Kingsdown. Most people here would not recommend any mattress from Sealy, Simmons or Serta for a lot of reasons. Check out the reviews...

Lynn, which FloBeds cover do you have? Is this the description? - "Euro Stretch-Knit Cover made with Organic Cotton quilted to naturally Fire Resistant 100% Pure Mt. Shasta Wool (1 inch before quilting). Fire Resistant without chemicals!" The picture looks like a brownish, unbleached cotton. Is that the newer style cover or the older style cover?
When I search for "cover" in Twin Long on the right side of the FloBeds page - about 12 options come up and I am trying to sort them out. I am thinking about getting one of the FloBeds covers for my son's Dunlop core at some point.
Right now he has a Twin XL six inch medium Dunlop core with 2 inches of 36 ILD Talalay on the bottom in a cheap 8" deep memory foam velour cover from eBay. It works for him but the cover might not be that sturdy if we...

Savvy Rest report - mattressmom

After lurking here and other places and doing lots of research - I finally recieved my latex mattress today. I'd like to add to the discussion by sharing my experiences with a company I haven't read about on this forum and about Dunlop latex. We went with a three layer 100% DUNLOP (yes, Dunlop, not Talalay) mattress from Savvy Rest via The Natural Sleep Store. We got a queen size with split firm (ILD 40), medium (ILD 35) and soft (ILD 30) layers. The cover is made of organic cotton quilted to organic wool. The total was $1849 including shipping - more than SleepEZ or some of the other online retailers but less than other organic latex mattresses. We got free UPS shipping through The Natural Sleep Store (which would have been $219 from Savvy Rest directly) plus a gift certificate for $160.00 that could be used toward bedding at their...

It might be fine, but sometimes 2" is too much and your hips sink in too far.
A better solution might be a one inch topper, then if it's not enough you can add one more to make 2"....

We, too, could not stand the feel of an all-latex mattress nor a latex with memory foam topper mattress. The Talalay always felt like it was pushing up against me, instead of providing soft support - yes even with the low ILD's on top. Some people obviously just do not like the feel of Talalay...

I'm thinking about ordering Flobeds 2 inch convolute latex comfort topper to soften a firm mattress. I would like something that's on the soft side. If anyone has ordered and tried this topper separately from their mattress, I'd appreciate any comments about it.
Thanks!
