Re: First time purchasing a mattress (leaning towards memory foam) - randys

One question I have - what should the memory foam mattress lie on? Currently, I ahve an old boxspring and metal frame w/ wheels for my current innerspring mattress.
Do I need to buy a new bed or have a boxpsring?
You have hit the jackpot, i have bought 4 beds in 2 months...
1. Costco/Sleep Science, 10 inch memory foam (was called "the emma") when i bought it, might not be named now...call sleep science
800 723 0316
And ask them if this is the same one...For almost ONE THIRD the price of a Tempurpedic, this was a real nice mattress, i returned it but not because I didnt like it , long story as to why...it did NOT sleep hot at all!
2. Tempurpedic "Rhapsody" - too firm
3. Tempurpdedic - "Bellafina" , for 6 weeks nothing but low back pain, then the last two nights, wonderful and does not...

So I'm in the market for a new mattress. Went to sleepliketheblahblah.com and checked out the stats for memory foam mattresses and found Spa Sensations to be a top rated brand for a really great price. Now I read through the reviews and the negative one's say that its too firm and its like sleeping on a carpeted floor. Now there are not alot of these negative reviews but I tend to focus a lot of time on the negatives when I'm buying things.
I've read on the forums here, that a firm bed is good and that comfort is achieved by the toppings. This formula works in my head for this Mattress but I wanted to ask your opinions on this Mattress. I've searched and found that Spa Sensations haven't been discussed to much in these forums and wanted to see if anyone had any...

Ok, I need to get serious about looking for a mattress for my daughter, but I kind of blew the budget on the $2200 latex mattress for us. . . I dithered and missed the latex bed sale at Costco, and now I'm staring at all the memory foam options they offer. These seem to be a little less expensive than the Tempurpedic, but do they hold up?
Has anyone bought or had experience with Costco's memory foam mattresses, and did/do you like them?
I feel like I'm starting at square one again, not really able to afford another latex mattress.
thanks!
Opposite experience of Becky, I had the Emma or 10 inch Sleep Science memory foam and loved it...but per my posts i have a client who sells temp so i tried one of theirs next...
anyway, the sleep science 10 inch that was called emma, not sure if it...

Randy, does this mattress seem softer than the Tempurpedic? In general, the more you sink into a mattress the warmer it will feel, because you have more contact with the surface of the mattress. So, it was cooler without a mattress pad? What is the mattress pad made out of?
Some people think that wool will sleep cooler in summer (but also warmer in winter). I had a wool filled cover and a wool filled mattress pad, and that did not seem to make it cooler (at least this time of year - maybe it would help in reallly hot weather).
My latex seemed a little coooler when I configured it firmer and had a thick mattress pad (poly filled) with an additinal cotton pad over thatt. However, the weather has also been cooler, so I am not totally sure if the thick pad helped that much. I think...

So far so good regards it is plenty firm enough, no back pain, but it sleeps warm...Originally wife had mattress cover on it that we put on and I took it off and that helped, before I decide on this what can I buy real quick and put on that will eliminate the warmness I feel against the mattress?
thanks...

What is your budget and what size mattress? The problem you will find is that any of the less expensive (and even the more expensive) innersprings is that they use junky foam. So, it may not be the most comfortable and it will lose support over time (sometimes fairly quickly). Of ones I have tried (but not owned), I liked the Stearns & Foster Estate luxury firm. They are a bit expensive though, especially if you don't get a good sale. The older models got bad reviews because they started to sag over time. I am not sure if they have fixed that problem.
Sealy has interlinked coils which should provide a firmer surface, but may not be as comfortable for a side sleeper. In my experience, the most support will be on the ones with the most coils. They will cost more, and even the most expensive ones will have some junky...
