That's one I've never seen in any East Bay area stores.

what DIY did you do?

In the forums section, hit the 'highlighted threads' at top.  BillB has a thread with pics. His bed is quite the DIY project.

My SleepEZ (and I imagine Flobeds would be the same) twin XL came in two 40" tall boxes.  One weight 32 lbs. , one 49lbs.  Use screwdriver, pliers to pry up staples to keep box lids in tact.  Empty out the foam, cut the plastic wrapper.

The cover was like 'which way is up, but I figured it out.  Cover is attached along 12" at one end, not seperate.  Must spread cover out much as possible before laying first layer of latex in.  At first, latex...

I can speak for the iComfort as I've had the Revolution model here for 4 weeks.  It's 4.75" of memory foam on top of 7" core regular foam.  If you lay on one, I think you'll find you sink into it a lot.  I thought that was cool and all, but after a week or so, my spine didn't think so.  I don't it is ever good for your butt or hips to sink too much into a mattress, so watch out for that.

The next iComfort down, Genius is awfully firm.  Lotta pushback when laying on my side.  too much difference between Rev. and Genius.  I've seen an Insight in Sears which has a lot of sink in the middle.  Perhaps it was damaged.  Maybe kids jumped up and down on it.  Don't know.

I was very disappointed by a $1k twin...

Evenloft Mattress Surface vs. Tucked Surface - slpngoc
Aug 9, 2011 6:53 PM
Stopped by Sears this evening looking at a Simmons mattress named 'St. Bees Plush Firm Evenloft'  The unusual thing is there are no 'tucks' in the ticking (how'dya like that).

Got to thinking, a flat non-tucked surface would seem better for any mattress.

These mattress covers that have tucks or buttons essentially have hills and valleys all over.  What's so good about that?  With my less than perfect shoulder, .. if it ends up laying over a valley, then I don't get as much cushion as my upper arm which several inches away.  See what I mean?

Maybe different strokes for different folks, but I would prefer only an even, flat surface.

I tried out the simmons series with the gel top , the one thats supposed to be really cool and the other memory foam ones at Macys furniture store the other day.  They were all labled as beautyrest and not the names on the simmonms site.  The one with the cool gel top was the beauty rest 1000x or something like that.  I also tried out the other Memory foam ones, 200 and 450 and one more i think.  They had far to much give for me and seemed to be very plush except the 1000 which was to gel like, like a mushy temperpedic and i thought it was warmer then i expected it would be.  In the end i went temperpedic as i felt it was a better bed and i am going to try the Allure bed, which i have heard is hot, but i'm willing to...
frustrated at this whole mattress shopping experience - wynnsayz

Hey guys,

I've been sleeping on a futon mattress for the past 8 years and I went to a chiropractor recently and found out I really need to get a good mattress. I went to Sit n Sleep and I found some pretty good mattresses. However, all of them felt great compared to the bad futon mattress. What made this mattress shopping absolutely horrifying and frustrating are the reviews I read, mainly on this site.

I can't remember the exact model or style, but the ones the store manager recommended were: simmons beautyrest black (around 2200 for queen), sleep to live (around 1700 for queen), serta icomfort (around 1200 for full XL).

For those three, I have found mainly bad reviews for various reasons and since this is not a cheap purchase, it really scares me.

I guess what scares me the...

Upgrading to a King Mattress - fmrock

We are upgrading to a King from a Queen.  We currently have a Simmons beauty rest that is about 10 years old.

I am a big guy 6' 4" 215 lbs and have an achy back.  I always thought I should have a firm mattress, but after going and laying around on some, i found I really like something a little softer.  I like some of the temperpedic beds also.

So, I see costco sells some memory foam mattress that get mixed reviews.  I am half temped to try one out and if I dont like it, take it back.  However, none of them come with a foundation.  Should i just find a cheap box spring around town or should i get a specific foundation?

Any suggestions on what to do about a foundation would be great.
