Catherine, it seems like we have some of the same issues. I have tried Outlast, cotton bamboo sheets, wool filled mattress pad, and snugfleece. None seem to really help, and in fact wool may make it slightly worse for me. I am returning all of them.

Oh dear. Well, thank you for sharing your results with the forum here. Very helpful. I hope the plain cotton mattress pad helps, if you try that.

Overstock.com has some good deals on blankets; looks like there are some lightweight ones available. I'm not sure if I'm going to get one now, or wait until spring. We're having a warm spell here in upstate NY, but the temps will probably drop back down fairly soon.

Some people may be bothered by that warmth and some may not. It will also be a function of how much you...
Re: Update - Returned Flobed & bought Stearns & Foster - KimberlyH

I am not "Bob," but since he hasn't posted since June I thought I would put in my 2c. I am also quite heavy and I have a Flobed. On my side of the bed, I have three, 3" layers of blended Talatech latex from LI, each of them is xfirm at 36 ILD. On top of those 3 layers is a 2" layer of softer convoluted latex layer (I don't quite remember, but somewhere in the 28-32 ILD?). You might also read the thread going on in near the top of the forum called "Latex Problems" from a heavy guy who has a 6" core of LI Talatech at 40 ILD (not a Flobed) and is finding it too firm.

I'm happy with the three layers of 36 ILD. I am finding it very supportive and firm, yet not creating pressure points at the hip or shoulder area (side sleeper...

By the way, prior to buying my Flobed latex mattress, my back would be screaming in pain all through the night. Well my back is still bad, but at night when I'm sleeping on the xfirm/xfirm/xfirm is about the only time I do *not* have pain now. Go figure.

You may be right, you might get away with a topper. But 40 ILD sounds awfully firm to me, as my 36 ILD layers are pretty firm. Can you soften it up just a tad down to the 36?

As regards the 100% botanical vs. the blended Talatech Talalay, I don't actually think one is superior to the other. I'd honestly be surprised if there's any difference in feel or durability beteween the two. I have heard that the blended is more durable (Eagle has the 100% botanical, I have the blended Talatech) and that's one reason I just went that way, but...

Hey there mark,

It's hard to know what firmness to suggest without knowing what kind of latex you bought. Where is their latex sourced? Is it LI Talatech latex? If so, I am similar to you in weight, and I have a Flobeds mattess with three, 3" layers plus a 2" soft topper. The three layers were firm over xfirm over xfirm. The bed is set up with layers of latex on each side of the bed, and each side had the same configuration.

After awhile I unzipped the cover and reconfigured it to firm/firm/xfirm on one side, and xfirm/xfirm/xfirm on the other side. The idea was that I would take the firm/firm/xfirm side because I wanted a soft feel. But it felt too soft, I could feel myself sinking into the mattress. So I moved over to the xfirm/xfirm/xfirm side (remember, the soft topper is on top of all these layers)

Kimberly, thanks for your ideas! Yes, it is the talatech LI latex from Latex International. The local company I bought from is one of their original and premier dealers listed on the LI website. I'm sure I could return the bed if I pushed it, but don't really see the need at this point. I already have 6 inches of extra firm 40 ILD base and 2 inches of 32 ILD (firm or medium) topper. They also offer a real quality foundation and nice cotton and joma wool cover. I think a final softer top layer will make this bed perfect. It will just cost me a little more in the end than if I bought online I guess.

Re: New Natural Latex Beds on Sale Now at Costco - sandman

Good find. I look at Costco all the time and I never saw that. Even when I go to the costco website and search on latex mattress I don't find it. Sounds like a good price with a good return policy.

However, I agree that it might not a firm enough base unless the Dunlop is significantly firmer than Talatech. Plus no ability to customize it to personal needs. Also, it is not clear who is manufacturing it, so quality and consistency might be an issue. So, a bit of a gamble but not much to lose.

I wonder if all of the layers are glued together? The cover does come off.

When I purchased a mattress from Costco they delivered and installed it, and came to pick it up when I returned it. Didn't cost me a penny. It also came much quicker than the 4-6 week time frame. I think I had it in...

I used one inch of added Celsion last night. At first I tried it on top of the mattress cover to see if it would work any magic. It did not. Still seemed too warm. I heated up to 89.6 degrees below the Celsion (and above the mattress cover).

Frustrated I decided to put in under the mattress cover. It heated up to 90 degrees just like the Talatech. Can't say I noticed any difference. Will have to try a couple more nights to be sure.

I switched to XF over XF over F to make the mattress firmer. I have had the sensation of sinking in too much and that helped.

Getting pretty frustrated at this point. I think the basic thermodynamic properties of latex and memory foam mean that they will retain heat and reflect it back. I guess it is warm an cozy to most people but I find it a...

Sleeplikeabear.com has a 30 day return (not exchange) policy on their latex. There might be a small handling cost and shipping fee you would lose on a return.

1,2,3" of Talatech or Celsion. Various ILDs. Not sure if they have any other types of latex, but you can check their website.

I talked to them and they do not resell returned items. Which is good if you are worried about buying something used, but try to figure out what you want carefully. I would feel a bit guilty returning something knowing that it cannot be resold, unless it was defective or did not perform as expected.

One another thing to try is buying 1" and folding it in half to see what 2" will feel like. That gives you a chance to test both 1 and 2 inches, and you can buy the second inch later if you...

Kimberly, I see the 2" queen Talatech topper at sleeplikeabear for $314? Are we looking at the same thing? That would make the prices pretty close. That would make the main difference tax, which they cannot control. Not sure if convoluted is more expensive as well....
