If you have a "sag" or dip in your bed and you flip it to get away from it... you have to ask yourself, "Where did the sag go?" Unfortunately, it has been sent to the bottom where there is potentially a space (previously a sag) and the simple laws of physics require that the weigth and gravity on the top push down to fill in the space and create a sag or dip on the top of your mattress.
Think of it like a flat tire... if you have a flat, the entire tire is incapacitated... even though it only LOOKS flat on the bottom where it touches the ground.
Simmons, from what I understand, was the first major manufacturer to go to a one-sided mattress (I used to sell them) and the reasoning they told...

@dandlbee: I haveslept on an adjustable base for just over two years and the last 6 months I have used a Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe (before that it was a World Class Simmons plush mattress) I have slept better those last 2 years (I am 42) than ever before and even more so the last 6 months... I actually wake up about 5-7 minutes before my alarm clock almost daily!
I actually am only supporting Tempur as the right one for me after being around them for almost 5 years... but I sleep on my back about 80% of the time now, but when I sleep on my side, I lower the head and feet just a little (but not much!) and still...

All Beautyrest...
Studio - 713 Coils
Classic - 800 Coils
Anniversary - 850 Coils
World Class - 1000 Coils
Based on the coil counts (within THAT particular brand) I would direct my heavier customer to the Anniversary or the World Class depending on how they slept. The baisc idea is that the more coils (again, within the same brand or line) will provide more support because each coil has to work less due to the extra coils: i.e. if you fall down the steps, do you want 10 hands reaching out to catch you or 20 hands? I also used to sell Select Comfort and will attest (even though I had more warranty problems than...

- I have worked with coils ranging from 12.75 gauge to 15.5 gauge and the lower the gauge number the firmer (and most times stronger)
- One question to ask is whether the steel being used is tempered or not (tempered is stronger)
- One example shows the Simmons beds with 1000 coil density (850 coils) is 15.5 gauge steel... high carbon steel; the higher carbon content is supposed to be stronger and therefore does not require a thicker gauge to perform as expected. You may want to read some customer responses to the Simmons World Class to determine if that works well
- The flip side is the Simmons Black beds use...

I don't usually go on forums to complain about a product or service, but our disappointment with the W bed was enough to get me started.
My wife and I loved the bed at a W Hotel stay and were delighted to see we could buy the mattress online. It is manufactured by Simmons and was fulfilled by 1800 Mattress.
First off, neither of us believes that this is the same bed as you get in the hotel. Much softer, quite a letdown, but we decided to give it a try.
After just 2 years, it began sagging noticeably and we began to wake up with backaches. By the third year the mattress has become a joke -- so soft and saggy that we can't sleep, so I called Simmons for service under their...

So my questions are, is it really better to have a 2 sided mattress and what are your thoughts or opinions on the simmons Elderberry Visco I linked above.
Thanks
