My Simmons World Class lasted about a year before the poly foam broke down and sunk in the middle.   I only weigh about 150 lbs and then the lower back problems started.  My wife's weighs less than 130 and her side failed as well.  I wouldn't expect much more from this model.  But if you are willing to replace them every year, it might be worth it to you.  I'll never go back to a Simmons model again.  Good luck but consider yourself warned.

Thanks for the heads up. Which bed are you on now?

Is a 1000 coil Firm mattress too firm for a 135lb guy? - Slides

I'm skinny, but do like firm mattresses, as anything not firm gives me back ache eventually.

Thinking of buying this one here: http://www.mattress.com/en/Simmons-Beautyrest-World-Class-Raleigh-Luxury-Firm-Mattress_35244/?attrValue=Full&zipcode=07001

Any thoughts?

So you don't wanna shell out $2499 for the excellent "cloud" mattress? Inspite of what slpgnc said so persuasively? I admire slpgnc deddication to the cloud mattress. he is making sense but damn I wanna get it right the first time.

what will you do then? keep buying from costco and then returen and when you return you have to load that mattress into a truck and drive 2 hours to costco? isn't that a big hassle?

ISN'T IT SHAMEFULLY EMBARSSING THAT usa the greatest civilization ever known to mankind cannot make DECENT QUALITY MATTRESSES FOR ITS CITIZENS?

Here's my take on the 2-sided mattress:

If you have a "sag" or dip in your bed and you flip it to get away from it... you have to ask yourself, "Where did the sag go?" Unfortunately, it has been sent to the bottom where there is potentially a space (previously a sag) and the simple laws of physics require that the weigth and gravity on the top push down to fill in the space and create a sag or dip on the top of your mattress.

Think of it like a flat tire... if you have a flat, the entire tire is incapacitated... even though it only LOOKS flat on the bottom where it touches the ground.

Simmons, from what I understand, was the first major manufacturer to go to a one-sided mattress (I used to sell them) and the reasoning they told...

@Catrherine: I went to the website and thoroughly enjoyed the info... I will have to check out more details, but a definite thumbs up!

@dandlbee: I haveslept on an adjustable base for just over two years and the last 6 months I have used a Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe (before that it was a World Class Simmons plush mattress) I have slept better those last 2 years (I am 42) than ever before and even more so the last 6 months... I actually wake up about 5-7 minutes before my alarm clock almost daily!

I actually am only supporting Tempur as the right one for me after being around them for almost 5 years... but I sleep on my back about 80% of the time now, but when I sleep on my side, I lower the head and feet just a little (but not much!) and still...

When I used to sell Simmons as one of my brands, my experience was based on the line-up I had at the time:

All Beautyrest...

Studio - 713 Coils

Classic - 800 Coils

Anniversary - 850 Coils

World Class - 1000 Coils

Based on the coil counts (within THAT particular brand) I would direct my heavier customer to the Anniversary or the World Class depending on how they slept. The baisc idea is that the more coils (again, within the same brand or line) will provide more support because each coil has to work less due to the extra coils: i.e. if you fall down the steps, do you want 10 hands reaching out to catch you or 20 hands? I also used to sell Select Comfort and will attest (even though I had more warranty problems than...

I don't want to cause you too much anxiety before you get a final answer, but here are some suggestions and food for thought:

  • I have worked with coils ranging from 12.75 gauge to 15.5 gauge and the lower the gauge number the firmer (and most times stronger)
  • One question to ask is whether the steel being used is tempered or not (tempered is stronger)
  • One example shows the Simmons beds with 1000 coil density (850 coils) is 15.5 gauge steel... high carbon steel; the higher carbon content is supposed to be stronger and therefore does not require a thicker gauge to perform as expected. You may want to read some customer responses to the Simmons World Class to determine if that works well
  • The flip side is the Simmons Black beds use...
Do NOT buy the W Bed -- junk after just 3 years! - delanor

Hi all,

I don't usually go on forums to complain about a product or service, but our disappointment with the W bed was enough to get me started.

My wife and I loved the bed at a W Hotel stay and were delighted to see we could buy the mattress online.  It is manufactured by Simmons and was fulfilled by 1800 Mattress.

First off, neither of us believes that this is the same bed as you get in the hotel.  Much softer, quite a letdown, but we decided to give it a try.

After just 2 years, it began sagging noticeably and we began to wake up with backaches.  By the third year the mattress has become a joke -- so soft and saggy that we can't sleep, so I called Simmons for service under their...

Simmons Beautyrest World Class mattress?? - maggsfinn

My husband and I bought a Sterns and Foster mattress from Mattressfirm 6 years ago.  The past 2 years have been horrible sleeping on this mattress.  It sags and gives us horible back pain.  My husband wants something firm and something that is 2 sided.  I have fallen in love with this one:

So my questions are, is it really better to have a 2 sided mattress and what are your thoughts or opinions on the simmons Elderberry Visco I linked above.

Thanks
