Calling Sandman and everyone else who was here 3 or 4 years ago...... ??? After 25 actual mattress purchases, severl iterations of mattress "surgery" and stacked layers of high denisty memory foam and latex, I gave up a few years ago and put a couple of layers of relatively soft high quality latex on a Simmons Beautyrest that escaped the factory with no comfort layer. I could sleep on it but always got up in pain, just a little less pain than the 25 actual mattress purchases and home trials I subjected myself to. My problem as a 60+ male was back injury and both a side sleeper with no muscle coverage any more... or back sleeper part of the time. My wife calls me a "flipper" from back to side. You need firm for back sleeper, conforming give to wrap around the hip and shoulder for side sleep. ...

Shovel99. What an amazing ordeal you have had to endure. You've been sleeping on this new configuration for 4 weeks now and it still feels great? I hope it continues to do the trick. Your addition of a thin layer of latex is smart. Do you find that it takes longer for the memory foam to conform to your body with the latex in between? Mattdud ...

Hi all!
Wow, what an excellent site!!! I only wish I'd found it BEFORE my mattress-ordeal over the last year, where I now find myself looking at "Mattress surgery" (who knew there was such a thing?!). LOL. I wanted to see if I could get any guidance or advice before I decide to do it though, since I have no idea what might be a good idea for replacement of what's inside... so I thought I'd share my problem, & what they've listed as is inside. And see if anyone could see a problem & say "Oh yeah, THAT would cause that for ya!". :)
So we initially bought a tempurpedic, which was hard as a rock, but gave it 3 months anyway just to make sure. So we did the exchange that we were allowed for a different mattress, & went w/ a Simmons Beautyrest Legend...

My wife and I currently have a queen size Simmons Beautyrest Classic Trinity Park Plush Firm Euro Top. The mattress is approximately 6 years old (I don't remember when we actually bought it but it has a manufactured date of 07/12/10). The issue is that both my wife and I haven't been sleeping well lately. She is being woken up numerous times during the night due to my tossing and turning. Sometimes I realize I'm doing it and other times I don't. When I do wake up during the night my shoulder/arm that I'm sleeping on (I'm a side sleeper) is very sore. I'm pretty sure the material in the pillow top has deteriorated and is causing pressure on my shoulder. Unfortunately a new mattress isn't in the budget at the moment so I'm looking to improve what we have. As of now I'm thinking of...

This is exactly what needs to be done when a company doesn't stand by their product. Get the word out. Well done. A 3 year lifespan for a mattress is a joke. With the amount of use and abuse hotel mattresses take, I would agree with you that they likely don't use the same mattresses in the hotels. Its probably a commercial version designed to be more durable and last longer. Thanks for sharing. Based on your experience I myself will question the business practices of Simmons and their willingness to stand by their products. - Derek...

Remove the pillow top from older Beautyrest? - twilee

I love this forum!
Has anybody has taken the pillow top off of an older Simmons beauty rest (not a black or world class) ? And do you know if the bed under the pillow top is sealed?
Ours is the Beautyrest Princeton park ultra plush pillow top 100 and we can't find specs or blueprints anywhere.
If we decide to go for it, and it is not sealed, do we just put a cloth over it and then the layers of new toppers?
The bed has held up well but we have deep impressions where we both typically sleep and now, if we can't fix it for a little more life, we will have to replace it (with a firm bed and toppers).
Thanks in advance!...

Is my current mattress adjustable base compliant? - marisarogers@gmail.com

I purchased two adjustable bases for my elderly parents who are quite ill. They are to be delivered today. We were going to pick out new mattresses, but they both became to ill to shop right now. How do I tell if their mattresses are adjustable base compliant, so that they can immediately get the benefit of raising their heads for better breathing? Then we will shop in a week or two for new mattresses when they are better. One bed is A Serta Northstar Supreme 1219 32866, 1219 M571475. The other mattress is Simmons Suttons Bay Spt Plush, HMB BXTP BRWC L100 M14392.80.7095

Hi,
I am new. I am trying to go for independently pocketed coils cause I tried once an expensive memory foam matress and my back pain was terrible. Also I have a better feeling for slightly firm mattresses. I have been reading a lot here and in another mattress forum. In the other forum (I do not know if I can named) they do not suggest to purchase from big brands cause they say they are overpriced and with local stores.. I just moved to Gainesville, Florida, from Italy, I rented a furnished apt 3 days ago and the mattress there is a nightmare since it is hard as a rock! Since night 1 I am waking up all sore. With my mattress in italy i am not sore. I went today to Mattress Firm just because they have great reviews online, I didnt buy anything yet. The mattress there are...
