All memory foam mattress sets are going to sleep warmer than an inner spring mattress with no memory foam. Memory foam is a temprature sensitive foam and it changes the compression of the foam itself according to temprature. So as you lay on a memory foam mattress it absorbs your body heat to soften up and conform to your body. Once you find the right comfort level for you they are great for circulation and as circulation improves you will also feel warmer. This is the nature of memory foam and dont fall for the Gel and cool fabric marketing. Gel is a negitiave as it fills the open cells of memory foam and reduces the breathability of the foam which over time will also make it warmer.

Greeting mattress experts and lurkers,

I am a once-a-decade mattress buyer in need of assistance.  Can anyone provide input for the Serta Icomfort foam mattress line?  Specifically, I'm interested in the Revolution model king size.  My initial search led me towards the Tempurpdic Rhapsody.  However, many reviews suggest Tempurpedic's sleep "hotter" than spring or other foam mattresses.  My wife is furnace so I dare not bring a mattress home which amplifies that issue.  So, my next focus was the Simmons ComforPedic.  My wife laid on every model and said they were "too springy" compared to the Tempurpedic and the iComfort.  So we are down to one option right now, the iComfort.  What I'm asking for help with is advice and comparison.  The iComfort line of Serta is very, very new and this is possibly why...

I don't know budgy but I have a spring air soft talalay latex and it has lots of pushback even though it is a soft latex mattress.

I also read about pushback at this forum. It is not the same feeling I got with poly foam.

The latex is bouncy and it is rubber.

Try sleeping on rubber. It pinches even though it may be the softest.

that pinch is pushback I guess. Very uncomfortable.

If latex was so good we would have latex stores everywhere and latex beds would be carried at major retail stores too.

Reality is here mattress firm and mattress giant have stopped carrying...

Not sure why you are saying Mattress Firm doesnt carry latex mattress. They have latex on their website and in the local stores around here. They also talk about the reason some of the Simmons or Sealy mattress's sets are so expensive is because they use latex and latex is one of the highest quality materials you can get in the bedding industry. This is what their sales reps will tell you. Mattress Giant also sells Latex beds, so does sleepy's as will most of your largest mattress compainies. None of those compaines has stopped carrying latex beds so you might want to check your data again. Many funiture stores do not carry latex, but even most of the larger funiture stores and/or high end funitures will...

3 basic boxspring/foundation design:

  • wood base pattern with wood framing construction, covered by cardboard or "padding" and very little flex...usually inexpensive (1-5 yrs warranty or a 10yr pro-rated warranty)
  • wood base pattern with wire grid (varying patterns), more flex, can range drastically and usually work better with coil systems that are very bouncy helping to reduce the amount of "liveliness" in the mattress (10 year warranty like Simmons and S&F, Serta offers a 20 yr version w/iComfort and Perfect Day)
  • all wood construction with 20+ years warranty and non-flexing, non-yielding and is best suited for ANY latex, memory/visco, pocketed coil... while they come automatically with the Tempurpedic, you can still use one when purchased separate form your mattress

Stearns is the middle one, very heavy duty for this design, but, in my opinion, when there...

The higher the density of the foam the longer it takes to air out and the ILD will not have an affect on this. The longer the mattress stays in the warehouse the less odor you will have. So if you have a high density foam mattress and they order it from the manufacture and ship it to you. than you will will have a pretty strong odor for a while. It isnt really the flame retardants that will be off gassing as much as the chemicals used in manufaturing memory foam. The flame Retardants are usually odorless.

I was going to suggest latex, but your price range will only provide you with synthetic latex which is closer to poly foams and so you should stick with getting...

Hey DallasMom!

I wanted to add a couple of things to help your search (I hope!)

Latex allergies are most often caused byu either the detergents ro the powders used to clean the latex and which make latex easier to work directly with (like the powder in gloves). A true latex allergy is typically found in less than 1% of the population, whereas the percentageof those allergic to either the detergents or the powders is MUCH higher (sorry, no actual % available to me at the moment). This is also, typically, a contact allergy, meaning yu must be able to touch or breathe the detergents or powders associated with the latex to experience the effects.

Most latex using true Dunlop or Talalay latex (these are methods of manufacture) have at least 2 layers of material between the end user and the latex in the...

The issue with two-sided mattresses is that when you are laying on the bed, the foam on the underside is still being crushed and sandwiched between the mattress and the boxspring.  Therefore, when you flip it over the foam is no better than the other side.  Also, when you have all of that foam on the underside of the mattress, the coil system will start to sink and settle into them causing some support issues.

Have you tried to contact Mattress Firm about the warranty on the mattress?  They may be able to replace the old one for you instead of having to buy a new one.

I have not tried the omaha bedding system, but I recently purchased an expensive simmons mattress that became mush after one year.  I think the whole mattress industry is terribly corrupt and is selling junk to consumers.  Someone needs to investigate this industry.
