If you are interested in reading the entire thread you're going to have to go to the bottom of the thread and click on the "ALL" word to see all of the thread. In a particularly long thread like this one, the owners of the forum have decided, and rightly so, to limit what is viewable.
As a follow-up to my last post regarding the installation of the new firm layer I have this report.
At first this firm layer on top of two extra firm layers felt as you might expect, quite firm. But after I have lain upon it for several nights it has become more comfortable. So my configuration is now left side of bed, F/XF/XF right-sided bid F/F/XF.
The more I sleep on natural latex the more I am convinced that one's...

As Kimberly has indicated, she and I both have latex from FloBeds who does business exclusively with Latex International.
Her bed is made out of blended latex. Mine is made out of 100% botanically grown natural latex. I recently acquired...

You know Linda, you make a very interesting point. Yes I have noticed that some of the pieces of latex have the original Latex International calculations pasted on them.
In fact the medium piece of all-natural, as rated by Latex International, was 26.2 ILD, as best I can recall. The FloBeds sticker said 28 ILD. My assumption is that for the convenience of warehousing and therefore picking layers to ship to customers FloBeds tries and standardize their ILD ratings. So in essence...

When you first get started looking at latex, things can be confusing. This is because there are many variables to latex:
1) The manufacturing method. The oldest method is called Dunlop and a "newer" (but still around for decades) method is called Talalay. You can read about the difference in the manufacturing method here:

Some people prefer Dunlop latex, some people prefer Talalay latex. Some people think that Dunlop latex, being denser than Talalay latex, is more supportive. I have tried mattresses made from both types of latex, and I don't believe this is true - provided you get the right firmness.
2) The type of latex. Basically there are two types of latex:
a) 100% natural botanically grown latex
b) Blended latex (typically 70% synthetic and 30% natural)
Read about the differences here:

Here again you will find a wide range of opinions regarging what is "best." Some people are purists and...

i HOPE so. because according to savvyrest's statement on what the eco institute certifies exactly, "The Eco Institut does not label anything as organic, such as an organic mattress. They merely test to be sure that materials meet certain thresholds for emissions...

Some more twists and turns. When I wrote this, I had the S & F English Meadows Luxury Firm ( think this is Macys version of base model S&F which I bought from the good folks at mattressbarn.com in atlanta). I tried an Ikea TVEIT topper which is a 1" latex... 20% natural 80% synthetic topper in a nice zippered cloth bag... thinking I could return it if I didn't like it. It felt more like 2 inches of folded fabric and was not supportive. When I got it back to IKEA, they refused a return and gave me store credit. Desperate not to lose $200... I took their 2 3/8 inch memory foam topper called Tajford.... $250.... which felt great in the store... very firm, supportive. Turned into a nightmare in less than 2 hours.... the usual memory foam problem... deep hole, hot, hard, slow recovery that I...

Thanks to all on this forum who share their insights on getting a better bed combo/night's sleep.
I have been through 16 mattresses and 30 toppers in all combinations to try to build a bed my 5'3" 110 lb back sleeping wife (likes firm) and I (170lb 50/50 side and back sleeper (medium)... with lower back pain... can sleep on. And both of us are hot and hate the heat aspect of foam mattresses and padding. We are a tough case. But my back has been killling me for 4 years, such that I had/have to do something.
At least 1500 hours logged in mattress blogs, mattress stores, and swapping them and giving away toppers.
We spent 4 years and thousands of dollars and hours chasing "sleep separation".... "conforming mattresses" ( Beautyrest, separate coils, memory and latex foam) ... before Iearned in the last month n Peter Cancellis blog that...
