The Talatech toppers I got from sleeplikeabear were very smelly and still are (although less so) a month later....

I recently received two 1" Talatech 14 ILD toppers from sleeplikeabear - very nice and cushy (I weigh 105 lb +/- a few). However, the latex odor off these was very strong and there is still residual odor 1 month later so I think that might bother you. Also, I have only seen 14 ILD in Talatech, not in natural or Dunlop....

IMHO, you are not heavy people, and I suspect 6" of 30-32 ILD with only wool on top is going feel too firm for side-sleeping. You can try it, of course, but I think you will definitely need 2-3" of something softer on top - maybe 1-2" in the low 20's and a top 1" in 19 or even 14. This would mean your top layer may need to be Talatech, not natural, as I don't think natural goes below 20....
My 1000th post - jimsocal

Thought I'd just "throw away" my 1000th post just for the heck of it...
My thoughts on my 1000th post:
"I need to get a life!"
But no, really, I just need to get a mattress that works for me.
I started posting here about 8 or more years ago so that's only about 125 posts a year, though some periods I have posted more and some less.
My current set up is this, bottom to top:
Englander springs 12.5 gauge
1" HR foam medium firm
1" natural Talalay latex
3/4" mystery latex, probably Talalay maybe Talatech
And that's it. It still hurts my back after about 7 hours but that's the best I've had here at home for the past couple years. At one point I...
Re: Latex mattress that doens't "canoe"? - jimsocal

My husband and I would like to purchase a latex mattress because of the chemical issues with inner spring and memory foam, etc. From my initial reading I thought that latex would not "canoe" like inner spring mattresses. Now I'm reading a lot of comments that many people do have canoeing issues with several of the popular 100% latex brands.
Has anyone owned a latex mattress for awhile and not had problems with impressions? If so, I'd greally appreciate hearing your feedback! Thanks!
I don't have a latex mattress but I've been on this forum for years and only once have I heard of anyone complaining of body impressions on their latex mattress and that was, as I recall, after 10 years.
"100% latex" could mean 100% synthetic latex which isn't often a good thing. There are Blends...

last I heard the new Sealy latex mattresses are now apparently using blended latex cores.....this is what they are labelling as 'smart latex'.
In any event there is nothing wrong with a good quality blended core, myself and some others definitely prefer 100% natural for other reasons, it is a great product.
Chemically natural rubber and synthetic latex are two very different compositions. A blended latex core will be very durable just like an all natural core. A 100% synthetic latex core would be quite brittle and much more likely to crumble over time.
Yeah, that's the question I was wondering. Is it synthetic or blended? Do any of the S co's to your knowledge, use blended latex aside from Sealy? And is it comparable to LI Talatech? Or does...

It is interesting that after years of telling people about latex on this site, the S Co's are starting to offer it, albeit synthetic or blended.
This Latex Mattress Comparison Chart may be of interest to you.

Don't know about Sealy, but according to their website, Serta uses "Talalay Latex" in their Vera Wang by Serta Specialty® Talalay Latex Foam Beds. But what kind of Talalay? If you click on the link and then scroll down (on...

I just spoke to someone at Flobeds -- he said that an uncovered twin-sized 2" talalay latex topper would cost $250 BUT the cover would cost twice as much as the topper since it was wool (and with it cover it became a "mattress" that would have to pass some fire-resistance test). He said that I could get the same topper elsewhere cheaper. He gave the distinct impression that he didn't want to sell me the topper without the cover, but that he didn't want to sell it to me with the cover because it would be too expensive (not that I mentioned anything about cost to him). How's that for customer service?!
SleepEZ only sells a 3" toppers, which is too thick, IMO, for using on just half a King-sized bed.
FoambyMail has a 2" Talalay latex topper 39"x75" (20 IDL) for $110.99. 1"...
