Re: Flobed - a big disappointment so far - or maybe not! - Lynn2006

BobJ, I am glad FloBeds came through for you like they have for me with their customer service that aims to please and seems to really care about the comfort of the bed to each and every customer.  At least that was the way I felt from dealing with both Dave and Dewey.  Dave even sliced a latex pillow for me trying to find a pillow the right height for me.  But I got lucky and after buy several natural latex standard pillows from Overstock, I found two the right height for me while the others are just a tad too thick.  The Queen Size latex pillows from FloBeds were so perfect but too plump for my petite size (I am only 4'10.5" tall) so I am using them as Shams which fit so nicely in my sham covers.

I feel you will like the firmer latex side of the bed once you...

You really should do some research, but I'll cut you some slack:
Buy the mattress with the least amount of foam on top, and the strongest springs, then buy 2 x 1" toppers of various softness, one medium and one soft, and mix and match them - one on top, the other on bottom and vice versa, or just one by itself, then the other by itself, until you have the right feel. If you want to get fancy and especially if you are not happy with the feel with any of these combinations then cut the toppers in thirds and make various firmnesses of "zones" for your top, middle and leg/feet sections.

You can also try 1" of latex and 1" of memory foam.

The purpose for buying a firm mattress with little foam and then putting your own 1-2" of foam on top is so that the foam on your mattress...

I've heard that Simmons doesn't temper their springs...better research that for longevity.

Good luck!

Re: Anyone tried a Select Comfort or similar air type mattress? - pondkoi

This Thursday they come to pick up my Select Comfort bed that I have had since November. We bought the 9000 model in a king size spending over $5000 for it. In the store it was pretty comfortable. They showed us our pressure points on a screen and how by increasing and decreasing the air they would change. The first night there was an air leak in my air chamber so I ran the tests and called them. They sent another set out and extended my 30 day warranty period to 60 days. I contacted them several different times about the air pressure changing quite a bit. In reading the material I saw where depending on the weather, the air in the chambers can go up or down. Mine went up as much as 15 and down as much as 10 on a given day. When I asked about this...

Just purchased a King Koil - Cool Nights latex mattress and both my husband and I feel like it felt much less firm in the store.

My gut was telling me not to make the purchase, but my husband was waking up in pain every morning.  We were sleeping on a Simmons pillow top Back Supporter.  We decided latex was the way to go.  I thought we should go the DIY route or buy a more expensive "all latex" model....but here we are.  I know the KK has a non latex foam core and lots of latex on top, we bought a higher end model that has more latex in it but still...

Now I'm thinking I need to soften this KK up.  Will a laytex topper help?  Can someone recommed a topper model, latex or otherwise?

I am so disappointed so far with this purchase.

Thanks.

I'm not as expert in mattresses as many of the posters here, but I'll give my opinion :)

I think you're right to be concerned about the poly core. Polyeurathane (PU) breaks down over time, though to be fair, lots of memory foam mattresses uses plain PU cores. I'd see if there's not a full latex mattress you could trade for instead? Latex will not break down like PU will. Alternatively, you could find an inner spring mattress with good quality tempered springs and as little PU foam or cotton padding on top as possible (since that stuff will break down) and top it with one or more latex toppers to suit your comfort level.

Altogether though, I think the mattress you're looking at would last longer than most mainstream mattresses, and it's certainly better than any Simmons mattress you could buy. So if those are your only two choices, I'd...
THERAPEDIC MATTRESS - looty007
Feb 6, 2009 4:34 PM
We are trying to use a credit for a Simmons mattress warranty issue to purchase a new mattress.  Unfortunately, our choices are limited to another Simmons or a Therapedic mattress.  Therapedic is supposedly the 5th largest mattress manufacturer in the world, but we cannot find much info on them & only a few reviews.  Has anyone out there heard of Therapedic?  Does anyone out there have a Therapedic mattress?  We are specifically looking at the "Feng Shui" model, which is an 8" HD poly foam core topped with 3" of Talalay Latex from their PureTouch line.  Any info would be greatly appreciated. ...

Thanks for your advice. My options are to trade for a simmons firmer mattress which will reduce my warranty amount. We have $1350 in credit right now and we can't get any cash back, only trade evenly or upgrade. the only upgrade choices are to another simmons which we don't want or to the therapedic which we'll have to pay around 6 or $800 extra. we are kinda stuck, we should have done better research from the begining. thanks again...
therapedic latex top with polyeurathane core - looty007

We are looking at a therapedic mattress. it has a 3" talalay yop with an 8" polyeurathane core. any opinions on this? we have a simmons world class super plush pillow top king that is going to be ruturned under warranty because it is sagging 2" in the areas where we sleep. the store is being very cooperative with us and gave us a credit for the simmons but all they carry other than simmons is therapedic. we have read a lot about latex and think we will be happy with it but we are concerned about the poly core. don't want to make another mistake & have more mattress problems. any info on this would be greatly appreciated. thank you, looty...
How much extra would you play for 64 coils? - subsur
Feb 11, 2009 7:19 AM
hi all,
my wife and I chose a simmons world class king size spring mattress extra firm and I was doing research on where we can buy it for lowest price. What it came down to is that we have 2 choices:
1. get a mattress with 1260 coils for ~$1300.
2. get the same mattress with 1324 coils for ~$1700.

My questions to all of you -
Is it worth to pay extra $400 for 64 coils? If you say "no", how much extra would you pay? Can anyone even feel a difference between the two choices?

Thank you...
