Just starting out - advice

I have to admit that I haven't gone through every thread here, but am now in the third week of looking for a new mattress and would like the advice of any willing to give.

For the most part, my search (because I haven't traveled outside my city parameters - yet) has led me to regional retailers that carry name-brand stock. I've found that I like the feel of the more plush - euro-top mattresses, as well as the Cloud Luxe by Tempurpedic and latex mattresses. After reading some topics on here, I am hesistant to buy (anything really) from some of the more "touted" name-brands because they are selling for the name, not the bed necessarily.

I've just started a search for manufactures near my city (Columbus, OH) - one being DesignSleep, which from just perusing their website, seems to have similar formula to FloBeds (which a lot of people gave good reviews).

I'm just curious if anyone has ever worked with Design Sleep -and/or know of any reputable companies in the Columbus, OH or outlaying areas, where I can continue my search.

Any advice to that, and a beginner searching for the perfect mattress would be appreciated!

Thanks

I just talked with design sleep a couple of days ago and I was quite impressed with their helpfulness and openness. I also in general like the "berkeley ergonomics" mattresses they carry (you mostly find them in CA). I was calling them with some questions about their slatted base but I wouldn't hesitate to go there and test their mattresses out.

Here are a few more that may be well worth looking at. I didn't have that many close to Columbus (mostly Toledo and Cincinatti) but OMF (1st one) would be well worth going to as they have very good value.

http://www.originalmattress.com/locations Regional manufacturer with wide range including Latex and good value

http://www.clarebedding.com/dealers.asp Regional manufacturer that makes several brands including their own called Platinum Dreams. Very nice and worth checking to see if there is an outlet near you.

http://www.ashleyfurniturehomestore.com Manufacturer. Have Latex on poly mattresses that may be worth testing out

http://www.furniturerow.com/DenverMattressCo/ Manufacturer. Have 2 "mostly latex" mattresses that may be worth checking out (Aspen and Snowmass)

http://www.bedroomsfirst.com/whereweare.html Retailer. No all latex but may have some "part latex" for field testing. Probably wouldn't spend too much time here

http://www.sleeptitemattressfactory.com/map.html Manufacturer. Carries latex but few details on webite. May be worth a phone call

https://anaturalhome.3dcartstores.com/crm.asp?action=contactus Carries a 9" do it yourself Dunlop mattress
