Re: Costco - Spring Air Back Supporter Latex Mattress - 3 choices - BedSaga

An update - The Costco Spring Air Back Supporter Latex Mattress Pacifica has not performed as hoped.  It developed a couple of wells in the bed after about three years and now after five years the wells are pretty deep. The top layer which is listed as "comfort foam" is obviously not latex and both it and the covering to which it is stitched has stretched out a lot and leaves a three-inch high bump which has to be pushed or stretched out of the way.

This bed would probably be fine as a guest bed that's not used constantly, but all in all, a big disappointment.

I'm wondering if anyone has purchased the Costco Sleep Science latex bed - which only lists latex as the ingredient.  I would think total latex would perform better.  I will post that question as a separate thread.

You can buy it with or without the foundation (box spring, but not really any springs).   People have complained about the quality of the foundation they use, so a different one might be better.

6 5/8" memory foam in that Ara bed?   Geez that's a lot of memory foam.  Maybe it offers enough support, but good chance it would be too soft, your hips / shoulders would sink in too much leading to spine misalignment.  Maybe.

Funny, I just posted another thread about Sleep Science and the Hybrid Bliss. Trying to find out exactly who they are.

As for the signs in the stores. What I mean is that every store up North that carried TP, had big signs advertising the 90 day trial. Well, as TP plainly concedes that is a farce, who is telling fibs? I would say the local chain stores. I am not saying TP is trying to "take" customers at all. I AM saying that their advertising is HIGHLY misleading at bes and the fact that the chain stores play along just makes it worse. They may very well have a great product, but when I see "liberal" use of terms, that throws up a great big red flag.

Hey guys.

I do not personally own a Sleep Science, but a good friend owns the SS Ara from Costco. He's had it a year or so and loves it. But- it's all memory foam (no latex) and a lot of it (5-6" on top I think). My husband just doesnt love the feel of most memory foam, so we opted not to try the Ara.

I do love the Tempurpedic Bellafina-- it's a very similar layering as the SS Hybrid-- memory foam over latex. It's a bit bouncier than most other Tempur models and it's fairly firm. I believe you'll read that about the SS Hybrid as well. The nice thing about the hybrid (not having actually tried it) is that it's quite a bit less expensive than the Bellafina and it's returnable nearly forever with Costco! Sort of a win win. Of course, maybe...

Hi mommylamb,

I am nearly certain you have to buy the box spring separately. But- I think they list two options on the site- one just mattress and the other as a set.

The top is mattress with foundation. The bottom is mattress only.

I have a friend with this mattress and he very much enjoys it.

Yes it shows over 6" of memory foam, but isn't a Tempurpedic bed mad of all memory foam?

After the previous thread of how much we hate our NovaForm Gel mattress (hard as a rock, yet touted as /normalplush), I started looking at other mattresses from Costco.

Sooooo, who is Sleep Science and should they be considered? They have what they are calling a pillowtop (which in a foam mattress seems redundant)

Hybrid Bliss

  • Mattress top layer: 1” of proprietary 5 lb black diamond bamboo charcoal visco memory foam.
  • Second layer: 1” of proprietary 5 lb slumber tech visco memory foam.
  • Third layer: 2” of medium latex
  • Bottom layer: 7” proprietary support tech base foam.

Or they have a Pillow top Ara:

  • 13” pillow top mattress fits the dimensions of your bed
  • Meets the...

I'm looking at buying the Ara Memory Foam Mattress (made by Sleep Science) from Costco.  Does anyone know if you need to buy a box spring separately?  I'm confused as to whether it comes with a box spring or not?

I did get the hybrid from Cosco and have had it for about 90 days.  The mattress appears to have pretty good quality but I found it is 10" rather than 11".  The base foam appears to be 6" rather 7" as described.  I sent Sleep Science an email suggesting they revise their description on their web site accordingly and consider a price adjustment but didn't even get a curtesy response.  Anyway, I consider the mattress to be very firm and doesn't seem to have much cushion in the comfort layer.  Seems like they need to add another two inches of 5# in the second layer to provide that cushion.  As a side sleeper, I find the mattress too firm and am debating on returning it and getting the Ara or adding a 3" talalay topper in the 19 ILD area.  If anyone has suggestions, they'd be appreciated.
