What about something like a firm Simmons Beautyrest with pocketed 15 gauge coils? Would you expect the springs to hold up for a long time (ie 10+ years)? Or do you consider that a cheap mattress?...

Corrected to show that we got the HQ foam rather than the R.
Last year we finally decided that our Beautyrest was not working. (I found myself sleeping the edge of the bed for support). The mattress had stopped feeling comfortable after 4-5 years and at the time it was 7 years old. I was very disappointed in how it wore out so quickly. I vowed that I wouldn't buy another Beautyrest again. I started the search of a new mattress and educated myself on the problems of the "S" brands and tried many mattresses. I have a weird back injury that was from a sledding accident and am pretty picky. After a while, I couldn't find something...

You mention you sleep on your side ... as I.
Recently, my wife and I just purchased and Ottoman with a PULLOUT SINGLE BED. What is really great about this is it has "Euro Slats" or flexible birch slats with a really cheap thing PU pad ... and I have to say it is REALLY comfortable ... more so than my 12 year old Simmons Pocket Coil.
I am getting ready to make my purchase and believe this is a critical component for future sleep filled nights. Type Euro Slats in the search engine for this site and you will find some great threads....

Yes, you will more than likely regret buying one of these mattresses. Chances are good that they will develop the same ruts you have now. These bed companies are not what they used to be. They want you to buy a new bed every 5 years or so. Not like in the not too distant past where you could get a good 10 to 15 years out of a quality mattress.
If you buy from Macys, you'll pay probably double (at least) what you might pay at a smaller retailer....

So, besides Simmons, which isn't known for their longevity, are there any *recommended* mattresses with the pocket coils? I read about Englander, but even those don't seem to hold up great...
I feel like i had some great sleeps on good, offset-coil beds...but i can't remember how motion-free they were.
Thank you!...

It seems that the first thing to fail on most mattresses is the sewn topping the manufacturer places over the mattress core - some are called "euro-top" and some are called "pillow top" and some are called other spiffy names but beyond the name it appears that they are all just a cheaply made "toppers" sewn over a core and they prevent the owner from turning the mattress over to attempt to limit wear on core components.
I don't know how much good flipping a innerspring core can do because once springs start to permanently compress and...

The other model we're considering is the Westin Heavenly Bed. I worry b/c it's not flippable, but maybe it will hold up longer if it's built to withstand heavy hotel traffic??
Any input is appreciated!

So, obviously I need something new. I've done my reading and see Latex beds like flobeds and sleepez are well liked, but I'm nervous about buying a bed without testing on it. I've been to pretty much every bed center and furniture store within 20 miles and found that the Simmons Beautyrest Black Plush Firm (no pillow top) @ $1800 and the Simmons Springfree Plush, also $1800, to be the best. We liked these two for the support and cussion they gave as well as having minimal motion transfer. I've...
