I am interested in purchasing a Simmons world class plush firm Paris mattress from sleep train. I would like to know how this would affect the life and quality of the mattress. Thanks for any feedback.

Unless you're very light weight, Simmons springs are likely to break in (if not 'down) very quickly, as they are made from a thin gauge wire. Personally I'd avoid Simmons, but maybe I'm wrong. If you don't weigh a lot then they might be okay for you. Or if you don't mind replacing them in a year or two if they get too non-supportive... As to the warranty, forget it. Most mattress warranties are useless, in practical terms. They send a guy...

Good Morning!

A little bit of internet hopping shows that the Alana Vista series was active about 4 years ago, making it very unlikely that the specific bed is still made. However, it should be possible to find the comparable current Simmons mattress. Have your relative look at the foot of the bed and on the side tags for the words "Classic" or "World Class" or "Exceptionale" or "Black". The name twinges my "Exceptionale" sense but I wouldn't take my word on that.

Simmons with the words "Plush Pillowtop" are usually their memory foam topped versions as opposed to their latex topped versions. If you can tell me which of the above series it is I can point you in the right direction.

Goodluck!

A Simmons Black Rosalyn.

It uses individually pocketed triple braided coils (Each coil is actually three smaller wires braided together) for a net guage of 11.75. It's topped in Talalay Latex with silk, cashmere, and alpaca loft woven into the ticking. It has a very soft ontop but firm deep down type of feel that I like. It's the type of bed you can cuddle down into without sinking. It's not perfect for everyone, but it is perfect for me.

My only complaint is that it's not adjustable friendly. One day I may swap it for something that is. I'm not personally a fan of the feel of Tempurpedics except the Allura. If/when I do switch to an adjustable-friendly mattress it will probably be that one.

Re: Negotiation strategy - Alexander

Fubu,

The best advice I can give you from the other side is to be serious about making your purchase. Look the RSA in the eye and tell him/her in no uncertain terms that you ARE buying a mattress today (and mean it). If an RSA knows he/she will get a purchase from you, he/she will be far more willing to go out on a limb for your business.

Mattress prices vary wildly by region but for the most part are marked at about 50% margin. Few retailers will go below 40% even to save a deal so use that for your negotiating points. If you're buying a Simmons World Class Queen Mattress only I would shoot for about $950-$1050. In my area I would consider that a good deal.

Short Guide to Mattress Sizes - Alexander
Sep 11, 2009 8:30 AM
This is a short guide to help answer common questions regarding the differences between mattress sizes. It lists the most common sizes, common dimensions, and comments regarding each. Please note that differences in manufacturing may vary the sizes by an inch or so.

Twin (39"x75")

The Twin mattress was once called the Single. It's suitable for children, students, etc. The greatest limiting factor in this size mattress is the length. 5'10" is about the maximum height that can sleep comfortably on a twin. Anyone taller runs a significant risk of having their feet hang off the end.

Twin XL (39"x80")

The Twin XL mattress is similar to a Twin but is the same length as a Queen or King. This size is a great choice for college students, adults who need a twin width but are too tall for a twin length, or even just tall children. Expect to pay about $100-$200 more than...

Jim,

I'll leave Eagle and yourself to your crusade then. Perhaps you'll change the industry from this forum.

In regards to mattresses with different names, the manufacturers DO put the basic model of the mattress on the foot of the bed. You can use these models to cross shop. In Simmons they're called Classic, World Class, Exceptionale, and Black. In Sealy they're called Premier, Reserve, Signature, and Natural Origins.

Now there are some minor differences between beds within a specific model. For example, one World Class might use dacron while the other uses silk and wool in the ticking. One Exceptionale might have a latex top while the other has a memory foam but these differences are obvious and usually printed on the card next to the bed. For the most part the beds are similar enough for you to comparison shop.

Also no retailer that I've ever come in contact with that has...

Simmons does not have any higher warranty claim rate than the other major manufacturers.

Simmons plush and pillowtops are good choices if you and your partner are both under about 220lbs. The Simmons firm is a good choice if you like the individual coil feel but are over these numbers. The plush and pillowtops are 15.25ga. The firm is 13ga....

latex or memory foam? - fubu04
Sep 14, 2009 10:33 AM
I am currently interested in the Simmons World Class Paris Plush Firm model @ Sleep Train.  I was reading other posts in this forum talking about sleeping hot on memory foam and I am concerned with this.  I live in Southern California and due to the weather I tend to sleep hot.  The Simmons Paris has memory foam in it and I am interested in finding something similar with latex instead.  Anyone know what would be comparable to this?  Also, would the comfort change going from memory foam to latex?  If so, how?  Thanks for the feedback. ...

Currently myself and my partner have a combined weight of about 260 lbs.  Is this to much for the Simmons springs to handle?  If so, any suggestions on what I should be looking for in terms of spring quality to support that weight?  Brands/models?...

Hello, I am hoping that someone reading this has the Simmons Alana Vista Pillow Top Plush.  I recently spent the weekend at a realtive's house and slept on the most comfortable mattress.  We were able to determine that it is the Alana Vista, but the "do not remove" tag is gone.  I contacted Simmons to see if this mattress is still being produced, but they need the pattern number from the tag.  Does anyone have this mattress?  Could you please pass along the pattern number found on the "do not remove" tag?  Thanks! ...
