My fiance and I bought our first mattress yesterday. We went to a mattress store and ended up buying a lightly used Florence Beautyrest Black. We were really excited since we got it for 400dlls, so we put it in the truck we had rented and left it on its side for a few hours while we went to get other furniture. Later that night when we finally put the mattress on the bed frame it had a HUGE lump in the middle. We thought this was because the pillow top moved a little while the mattress was on its side on the truck, so we tried putting the mattress on the other side while trying to smooth out/beat the lump from it. It didnt help much, the lump just moved a little bit.

How do we get rid of the bump? Were we robbed (the bump...

Don't buy anything with a pillowtop unless the pillowtop is latex (unlikely that it would be)....

I am considering purchasing a full size Simmons World Class Paris plush firm. My partner and I are 5'4" 100lbs and 5'8" 150 lbs respectively and both sleep either on our sides or backs. We both have tried it in store and it seems comfortable. I have been trying to read throughout all of the information in this forum about brands, mattress life, coil strength, etc. In regards to this particular mattress and brand I am wondering if this mattress would be worth the purchase. I am willing to spend about $1500 for my new mattress so any other suggestions on similar brands/models in the that price range would be appreciated. Because of it being a full size that I need, would the degradation process of either the foam or springs be the same in relation to length of time compared to a queen or king...

Not sure about the Bamboo, but often if you call someone and let them talk, you'll get the whole story.
My bet is that the others are being sold because they are pillowtops and they have body indentations, even tho they are nearly new. Such is the way of beds.
You should be able to research each bed online separately.
If you get one of the pillowtops, choose which one has the springs you like the feel of because you will probably be doing mattress surgery on it. Oh, and check out bedbugs. They are apparently a problem these days and you sure don't want those things in your bed!!!

New mattress adventurer - foam is the new horizon - Amy1

Hello, my name is Amy, I am a side sleeper, and I have cut open my mattress.

I feel like this forum is Mattress Adventurer's Anonymous, and it's GREAT!

My saga begins before I cut open my mattress - I did a bit of mattress shopping, and almost bought a Simmons Beautyrest Visco Plush for about $450. It's a pocket coil with a bit of memoryfoam, and was the only spring thing in the store that allowed my back to align while side sleeping. I did not test any foam mattresses at that time due to their cost, and bad things I had heard about all-memory-foam mattresses. I had not really heard of latex mattresses. That evening I went home for online price comparisons, and I found this wonderful forum (among other sites). After much reading I realized that unless I spend over $1500 on pocket coils, they will be made with...

My husband and I bought a Simmons Dorinda Plush Firm Queen about 3 weeks ago. I have no idea how it compares to the model you mentioned, but the Dorinda Plush Firm is ruining my life*. When it first arrived I thought it seemed way harder than the one in the showroom. I think the showroom one softened up by so many people crawling in and out of it. I could barely eek out 3 hours of sleep on it at first. Now, within only 3 weeks - there are permanent depressions made by our bodies - and my husband and I are of average weight and build. It's ridiculous. I'm sleeping in a gully and only getting 3-4 hours of sleep per night.

Actually apparently the Serta bamboo thrive is brand new in plastic, no box spring and apparently has no defects. How is it so cheap then? It seems too good to be true. Does anyone know how Mattress sellers work and where they get their mattresses?...
Buying a second hand mattress (Sealy posturepedic, Simmons dreamscapes Cierra or Serta Bamboo thrive?) - Byron7777

Hi,

In the classifieds in my city there are one of each of the above mattresses with box springs being sold between $300 and $400.

I don't know much about beds and i'd like to know which is best. They are all apparently fairly new.

I guess I like a fairly firm mattress but overall comfort is maybe more important. Again, the mattresses are all similar in price. What's the best one? and best deal? Could I get a little info on each?

Much appreciated. Thank you.

Summerhill & Bishop v. S & F - tiredandrestless

Has anyone heard of the brand Summerhill and Bishop? I guess it's a joint brand produced by Simmons and Ortho Mattress but I can't seem to find any literature on it.

Option 1 is a queen Summerhill and Bishop "Elgin" pillowtop that has 980 individually pocketed coils, 12.75 gauge double tempered, 2 1/2" high density (not sure on type or actual density) foam and 1" memory foam encasement, 10 year warranty.

Option 2 is a S & F "Maple Leaf" which I'm guessing equates to their Luxury Innerspring line, 825 coil count with 5" memory foam and 2.5" foam encasement which I am also unsure about in terms of specs, 10 year warranty. No gauge was given by the rep.

Figure a $300 increase for Option 2, both were comfortable for my primary backsleeping, sometimes side sleeping body position in the 15 minute nap test. Primary concern is durability,...
