I have the 14 ILD from SLAB and the dormier mattress cover.  Yes, it feels very soft and much like a pillowtop but with some support.  I have it on top of 3 inches of soft talalay latex from Sleepez.  I would recommend getting the 1" first and see if it is soft enough and then you could add more later or the dormier cover.  SLAB price includes delivery so the price is similar.  You would pay a little more by ordering 2 one inch 14 ILDs but you don't want to over buy.

Thanks for the answer Sall. A few more questions if you don't mind:

  1. You say you have both the super soft latex and the dormier mattress cover. Are you using both together? It sounds like you think the latex adds more pillowtop feel...

Which foam are you considering?  I ordered some HR foam from them for sofa cushions, and I think the quality was pretty good.  In my opinion, it was better then the highest quality foam I bought from foambymail.  Seemed denser and more supportive.  More expensive as well.  Both are working okay for me.

I ordered a few small pieces of latex from them, and the quallity seems worse than Latex International (that's who they told me made their latex).  If you scroll down on this link to reply number 9, you can see a photo comparison.  In the photo, it is next to 100% natural talalay.  The Talatech does look a bit different, but still not like the foamonline latex.  Some of the holes don't go all the way through, and my perception is that the density is lower.   It is working okay though in my very limited...

I have not seen the 14ILD talatech or 15 Celsion any place but sleeplikeabear.   I would think it would be available somewhere else, possibly cheaper, but you would have to do some searching.

Some think 14 is too soft, so 19 is another alternative.   Steve finds the 23 too firm, so I am not sure if the 19 would be enough of a difference.  Anyway, I would tend to stick to 1" of the 14, and if one wants more then I would probably add 1" of 19.   Then you can 2 options, with the 19 on top being a bit firmer.   Of course, if you have 1" of 14 I would try folding it in half if possible to see what that is like, before adding another inch.

They also make the Evercload latex quilting.  That should add some plush pillowtop feel as well,...

  2. Which 1" supersoft latex do you have? I checked SLAB and they seem to have both Celsion and Talatech supersoft layers.
  3. Have you compared this supersoft latex to the sleepez soft? Does it make a big difference you think?
  4. Also, you say you have it on top of 3" soft talalay from sleepez. Would you mind specifying the other layers? I'm curious how your mattress compares to mine.

I have yet to find the winning combination of latex!  I am currently using the 1" of 21 Celsion over the 1" of 28 Talatech.  I also purchased a Rejuvenite Restora pillow for the neck problems.  I still experience quite a bit of shoulder pressure with the current setup, and also don't think the pillow is a perfect match either because the neck pain is still present.  After sleeping on a much softer mattress (likely a plush pillowtop from Sams or Costco) over the past few weekends, I have come to the conclusion that I simply do better with a softer mattress.  I also was able to become comfortable without sleeping with my head on my arm.  I'm starting to think this is a habit I developed to reduce shoulder pressure - I've been doing it for as long as I can...

hello becky

my wife and i are going through kind of what yu are but to a more expensive ordeal, however the same result. we have a very firm latex bed and we are trying to soften it without losing support in our hips and back but with giving our shoulders someplace to sink into. believe it or not my wife is 5' 3" 130 so close to your body type. and she has found that 1 " of 19 on top of a 1 inch 20 has worked. still has the support from the orignal mattress but a softer gradual feel to the top.

sleeplikeabear does do exchanges and there twin xtra long run around 132 for a 1 inch wich is spendy but they talatech latex is from latex international and i think is one of the best you can buy. we have spent...

Need advice on ILD and 1 or 2 inch mattress topper to get - jpo873

I bought a new mattress over the summer that ended up being way too plush/soft for me and woke up every morning with lower back pain. I am a stomach sleeper, and sometimes side sleeper. I then exchanged it for a very firm mattress (which was probably too extreme) and now I find I not only toss and turn all night (mattress too firm), but I am having a hard time going back to my usual stomach sleeping position without nearly instant lower back pain. (For reference, I'm in my late 30's, in good shape, no health issues, weigh 135 lbs). I need something to soften the mattress as it's pretty uncomfortable as is.  At first I was thinking of getting a memory foam topper, but I read on here someone else with the same problem purchased one, and the sinking in feeling bothered her lower back all over again. So, I am considering a latex mattress topper.

We have 1.5" of 14ILD Talatech Blended as our top layer.  It definitely gives the super soft pillow-top feel.  For two nights I even doubled it up for my wife to seep on 3" of 14ILD and I was on 2" of FBM 20ILD (Both had 3" of 28ILD Talatech under that).  My wife, 5'6 110lbs, thought it was heaven, and I couldn't take it anymore after the second night because of pressure points. 14ILD definitely makes a huge difference over 20ILD.  14 is 70% of 20, so 14 is 30% softer than 20.  Or you could look at it as 20 is 143% of 14, so 20 is 43% firmer than 14.  Either way it is significant.  And I would guess your "Soft" top layer is probably 22-24.

Also, Radium makes a 16ILD that you can get through SleepEZ if you ask for it.  And SLAB has a 15ILD Celsion...

I'll step out there.  If I were in your situation, I would buy:

$349 - 3" "Firm" (28ILD LI Talatech Blended Talalay - is actually Medium) Full Rejuvinite Topper w/cover http://www.latexmattresscompany.com/full-rejuvenite-3--latex-mattress-topper.html

$386 - 3" 36ILD LI Talatech Blended Talalay (Firm) from www.sleeplikeabear.com

$272 - 2" 24ILD LI Talatech Blended Talalay (Soft) from www.sleeplikeabear.com

That is $1010.  You will have a comfort guarantee from SLAB on the Soft layer, which is the only one I would imagine you might need to change.  You will have a nice feeling cover for whatever ends up on top.  You can cover the rest with some cheap allergy cover from Walmart.

To go cheaper, you could replace the 2" Soft layer with http://www.latexmattresscompany.com/fulamato.html  for $199 but it might be too soft and you would not be able to return it.
