Re: HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT MATTRESS...no, I'm NOT trying to sell you anything - Sall

I hate to say it, Bruce but you sound like a slick salesman from one of the national or regional chains that says that we have lots of great beds and you should buy from me because I'm a nice guy. Trust me, it's made of good stuff and it will last you 25 years. Most of the folks here have had that experience and haven't found that to be true so they are here for help. You are correct that it isn't rocket science but it's not as simple as many of the salesmen and women I've met in those stores. It's too bad there aren't a lot of good local retailers selling really good beds. Instead, there are a lot of chains and national mattress companies selling overpriced mattresses that hold up for about a year at best before they start breaking down and sagging causing back pain...

Based on your location and shipping challenges, you might consider looking at mattresses from Costco. Although their mattresses generally get somewhat mixed reviews on this forum, the major benefit is Costco's excellent return policy. They will provide you with full money-back if you become unsatisfied with their mattress for any reason, at any time. It's serious piece of mind if you're not sure whether you'll like a mattress that you're dropping big bucks on. We just returned an innerspring mattress of theirs, and they didn't charge for return shipping (lower 48) - not sure if that would be the same for Alaska, though, so worth checking with them.
Unfortunately, Costco recently stopped selling their only all-latex mattress. They replaced it with a model that is a combination of 4" latex (probably dunlop) and 6" of polyurethane. Some folks on this forum recently purchased one, and hopefully they'll provide...

well it just came in its like sleeping on the floor i mean it says firm but man they should just say its like sleeping on the "floor" lol i hope Costco can take this brick back and its back to the drawing board. Interestingly its still too firm even with a 3" 14 ild talay topper i've added to it. It did however expand quickly to 10" iwithing 15 minuts no smell and good quality just too FIRM. anyone return matress to costco online how quick are they to take it back and return your money back to you card? On another note we really loved the latex bliss natural ILD isn't a consistent measurement amongst manufactures that for sure basically the same ILD as the pure latex bliss one but the costco version is 10x firmer probably dunlop vs talalay. not sure what to do now maybe...

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT MATTRESS...no, I'm NOT trying to sell you anything - Bruce_G
Mar 20, 2011 11:01 AM
Hi, my name is Bruce and I have worked in the mattress industry for 12 years now. Many years on the retail side of the bedding business taught be that a mattress can be the most difficult piece of furniture to pick out for your home. There are several major contributing factors to this:
- The sheer variety of mattresses found on the market (tens of thousands of options...brand name is essentially a worthless metric)
- Misleading sales people (the ones who work off straight commission want to sell you the item THEY make the most $ on...big chain stores tend to do the customer a disservice in many cases)
- It is whats "under the hood that counts...don't pay more THINKING you're getting more (a $500 mattress can LOOK like $2000 mattress...thickness does NOT equal quality)
- What makes...

I too just ordered this bed. We gave it the old college try for three weeks since we consider ourselves to be people that like firm beds.
Gotta' agree with other posters; this thing is like sleepingon the ground. Way too firm.
Going to return it and try their memory foam products also by Sleep Science.

These beds are made by South Bay International and sold to resellers. Costco being one of them. I did not get it from Costco and now I am stuck. Here is my story:
I purchased the SOUTH BAY INTERNATIONAL'S (Sleep Science) Supreme 14.5" mattress through a reseller and had it freighted to my home. After a few months while re-arranging my bedroom I tore the cover. I was very disappointed. So, I started the process of finding and ordering one. I contacted SOUTH BAY INTERNATIONAL, who still makes the bed for resellers, and tried to order the replacement for my $2100 SOUTH BAY INTERNATIONAL mattress. At first I was told that the cover was not available. I became irritated and told them that I was going to what I am doing here, let everyone know that South Bay International does not support it's products or customers. I was...

Costco - Current Firm Mattress Options - t1234

Looking for some advice as my back is currently killing me. I've got a five year old queen Sealy plush set that needs to go. Don't recall the specs, but I bought it because it was similar to the Sheraton bed that I found I slept great on back when I was traveling. I've got the usual complaint of body impressions and degraded foam causing valleys.
I want to buy from Costco due to their great return policy, so I'm limited in my choices. I have tried memory foam and hate it, so not an option. Also 6'1" 280lbs, so looking for something firm I won't sink all the way into.
My current choices from the Costco lineup are three Sealy innersprings and a latex "hybrid".
* Sealy Alanson Cushion Firm - $580
* Ivory Forest Firm - $650
