We get so many of these “newbie needs help” posts like this that I thought I would take a crack at writing a general summary (for latex mattresses). This may seem silly, as there are already a ton of informative posts and “highlighted threads” on this forum. But the sheer size of the forum makes it difficult for newbies to find the posts that would most help them, and most of the “highlighted threads” seem to be about “mattress surgery” (improving an existing mattress). This post is intended to address the “where should I start” questions I typically see (and don’t have time to answer). It's really just all the notes I made to keep track of things myself. It's neither definitive nor complete; if you want more info on anything just do a search in the forum.
Executive Summary:
If you...

http://www.purerest.com/ These are Dunlop and are not the best value IMO but they are probably the most stringent in their independent chemical and purity testing which may be important to some. They do have an "econo" version as well which is better value.
http://www.flobeds.com/latex/index.htm They offer high quality and good levels of customization and have a zoned model. Many people like them because of their return and warranty provisions however I believe they are a little too high priced compared to some others.

Thank you for sharing your experience and adding some advice!! I had read your thread "Sleep EZ - 8500 experience and help with eliminating sore back issues" as well. Sounded like your soreness was stemming from you being a side sleeper and having pressure point pain? Even though I "trained" myself to start out sleeping on my side, I really do prefer sleeping on my stomach so I think that was why Phoenix was recommending I go pretty firm for my "support" layers... I'm curious though... are you overall happy you went with a latex bed? With SleepEZ? Or if you could do it all over again knowing what you know now, would you do something completely different?
Thanks, also, for the advice on the cover! I've read on here that the wool covers/toppers lessen the feel of latex though - have you noticed...

Thanks for adding your thoughts! Sounds like your mattress woes have been a real pain... Slogged through about half of your and Phoenix's 150+ reply thread this past Saturday... Almost made me give up for another year. haha! J/k. :)
But to answer your questions - yep - splitting the sides is just for testing purposes, and also potentially for having a set-up available for my less-frequent side-sleeping. (I don't think the dog and cats care which side they get... Haha!) I had made the assumption that Phoenix, when he was recommending Med or Firm for the "top layer", was referring to the top 3" layer, not the 1.5" "topper-like" layer. So I was planning on still getting Soft for the 1.5" top layer for my "cradle"/any pressure points. I've never had pressure point pain/discomfort though, like in my shoulders or hips; it's always...

I posted this in the Costco thread as well, but since that's kinda buried, I thought I'd share it as a top-post as well.
I decided to try the Costco Cal King Natural Comfort, 10" Latex Mattress with Foundation (Item # 481982) given the great reviews. Here is my experience:
My only problem with the delivery experience was the fact that the white glove outfit Costco chose had NO weekend delivery options, meaning my husband had to take off work to receive the bed. :(Other than that the process was fine.
I wanted an Eastern King, however they were sold out. I decided to settle for the Cal King since the reviews were so great, and it was unclear when they might restock the Eastern King. I am a plus-sized, curvy woman (+250)...

The old mattress seller "saw" that "everyone is different" is, unfortunately true. What is firm or soft is completely subjective and sleep patterns... and what your mattress pad over the top varies a lot. Even a tighter sheet will make a huge difference. I learned that the hard way.
Re: your 1 inch topper, since you are sleeping pretty well on 32 ILD.... weigh what I do, I'll bet you are a back sleeper. Further, I have concluded that the 14 ILD SLAB that I have is probably too soft for me. I have pulled it out numerous times and tried it, top layer, second layer, and found each time that it was too soft, not supportive enough even for me, who must want among the softest top layers to accommodate my boney shoulder/hip in side sleep. I felt 6 inches of 20 was hard. ...

We moved recently and all my plans to try a latex mattress flew out the window. We had to buy beds immediately or sleep on the floor. Could find no latex dealer nearby, not with the limited time and a Google search anyhow. So I ended up with an expensive coil mattress again (learned long ago to avoid pillow tops.
We decided on twin beds because it was getting difficult for me to make a king up in the morning. Back problems, hip problems, fibromyalgia, weak legs...yuk. The twin is a disaster, not to...

Sueno mattress - better quality, free duvet & pillows but has 3-6wk ship time, only 10 yr warrenty, no returns, exchanges with 25% restock plus cost of new item and ship
Bella Sera - customizable layers, 20 yr warrenty, no returns but can purchase addition layer of soft, med, firm for $180 within 90 days of purchase, ships in 1 week or less
both for the same price and free shipping. It seems that the "safer" choice is the Bella Sera since I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to like but I feel like...
