http://www.purerest.com/ These are Dunlop and are not the best value IMO but they are probably the most stringent in their independent chemical and purity testing which may be important to some. They do have an "econo" version as well which is better value.

http://www.flobeds.com/latex/index.htm They offer high quality and good levels of customization and have a zoned model. Many people like them because of their return and warranty provisions however I believe they are a little too high priced compared to some others.

http://www.savvyrest.com/products/organic-mattresses/serenity I'm including these for comparison purposes only as they are well known and high quality. They do have a good reputation and their prices are lower at some of their dealers than on their website however I have...

New Flobeds VZone Bed arrives in Toronto, ON Canada - Jazzsinger777
Dec 21, 2010 4:41 PM
Hey Gang,

Just wanted to let you know that on Dec 6, 2010 I made the plunge and bought the Natural VZone 0 Natural Talalay Latex Green Mattress from Flobeds.  Dewey shipped it out on Friday Dec 10, 2010 and 3 of 4 boxes arrived in Toronto, ON via USPS/Canada Post in 5, that is right ... count them 5 days on Dec 15, 2010.  The 4th box arrived here on Dec 21, 2010.  Dewey told me it would take between 6 - 10 business days.  I was quite happy to have the fourth box arrive.

Everything arrived in great shape.

My wife and I were able to assemble it ... that was fun ... really ... and have an interrupted sleep as my son had a cold and kept waking up ... but the sleep I did get was deep.

I...

But to get back to your question, I would phone BOTH Flobeds and Sleepez, describe to them your height, weight, preferred sleep position, and see what they recommend for you.  There is no one on this forum, with the exception of Budgy, if he's still around, who has the expertise to advise you as expertly as a professional latex mattress retailer.  That said, with what you described, I wouldn't go lower than 2 layers of 36 ILD and 1 layer of 32 ILD, and possibly do as I ended up and just order 3 layers of 36 ILD.   I feel that any softer, and you'll just crater into the mattress, which will make your back very unhappy.

If you want to get really picky about this, I seem to recall reading that 100% natural Talalay latex is denser than blended latex (what I have) and that might affect...

Hi Steve!

Thanks for adding your thoughts!  Sounds like your mattress woes have been a real pain... Slogged through about half of your and Phoenix's 150+ reply thread this past Saturday... Almost made me give up for another year.  haha!  J/k.  :)

But to answer your questions - yep - splitting the sides is just for testing purposes, and also potentially for having a set-up available for my less-frequent side-sleeping.  (I don't think the dog and cats care which side they get... Haha!)  I had made the assumption that Phoenix, when he was recommending Med or Firm for the "top layer", was referring to the top 3" layer, not the 1.5" "topper-like" layer.  So I was planning on still getting Soft for the 1.5" top layer for my "cradle"/any pressure points.  I've never had pressure point pain/discomfort though, like in my shoulders or hips; it's always...

First you have to decide what type of mattress you want.   You bought a latex, but are you fairly sure that is the type you want?   Not sure if any of your symptoms are due to an allergy to latex.  Many people like latex, and I would pretty much avoid all of the major S brand mattresses that put cheap foam on top.  If you want an innerspring, you may have to search out a smaller local dealer that makes them the old fashion way.

If you want latex, then you have to decide between dunlop and talalay.  Talalay is a bit softer, and tends to be better for side sleepers.   You don't seem to like the dunlop Sams club one, so my guess would be that you might prefer talalay.  I think dunlop is better on the lower support levels, but I don't really like it on...

Re: HELP building DIY mattress with 3" latex over 6" Poly foam base or just get 6" latex - Phoenix

In very general terms ... a mattress has two functions.

The first is to form enough of a cradle around your sleeping profile that the pressure is spread out over your body enough to relieve pressure ... especially in your "most difficult" sleeping position (on your side). This is the function of a comfort layer. The more "gaps" there are to fill in ... the deeper this cradle needs to be. Side sleeping has the biggest "gaps" to fill in so in general terms it needs a thicker softer layer than other sleeping positions to relieve pressure. How deep a cradle you need or how thick and soft the top layer needs to be is also dependent on how sensitive you are to pressure. There aren't very many people who side sleep on a mattress with 32ILD Dunlop in the comfort layer and find it comfortable. Flobeds has...

cazual, I forgot to ask, did you get the natural talalay or the synthetic blend? They told me over the phone that they sell 70% synthetic blend and 30% natural, and that the natural deteriorates quicker.

I got the blend because of the durabilty.  I had spoken to Sleepez and Flobeds and they confirm that the natural latex has an approximate lifetime of 10 yrs and aside from the green aspect there is no difference between the natual and the blend.

Flobeds also recommended 4 layers.

Anybody out there who weighs 300 pounds who can tell me if this would be supportive enough for him:  Xtra firm/Xtra firm/ Xtra firm (ILDs 34-38)?  (Flobeds suggested super firm (ILDs 42-46), but that only comes in blended--and we would like to keep it all natural.)

I'm hoping that the top convoluted layer of latex will provide the softness that my husband is looking for so that he doesn't feel like he is sleeping on a rock.

source of natural latex from sleep ez - kbb100
Feb 9, 2011 1:18 PM
Hello,

I have been researching for weeks now and appreciate all the great input here.  I was recently on the phone with Dewey at flobeds and I asked him why there was a significant price difference between his product and sleep ez's.  He said he thought the source of the latex from sleep ez was dubious.  He didn't use that word, but that was the gist of what I thought he was saying.

I am interested in the natural talalay and I am wondering if anyone has natural talalay from sleep ez and if it has a label?

Many thanks,

KB
