What Kait said!...
The problem with almost ALL S brand beds is that they have cheap foam in them - too much of it at that - that breaks down quickly and leaves you with a sore back.

The other problem is that you will find, if you start asking the store sales people "What kind of foam is in it?" they will either say they don't know or they'll just say "polyurethane". Neither answer is good because unless it is HR foam (a higher quality polyurethane, which to my knowledge, none of them use) or M-grade or latex (again, to my knowledge, no one uses these), then it is just plain old cheap, crappy, non-supportive polyurethane foam that breaks down VERY quickly.

This is an incredible indictment of an industry that is - in my humble opinion - building their whole business model on being UN-user friendly, hiding the composition of the...

Hi there,

I've read through your entire post a few times, and you sound exactly like me.  I'm not a big guy, but I am a big girl :) and I too started out dazed and confused by this mattress business.  The last time I bought a mattress for myself was 15 years ago, my husband and I walked in a showroom, lay on one we liked, bought it for $800, and it was amazingly comfortable and lasted 15 years.  That was a Simmons that was made with quality materials (wool, not cheap PU foam).

Then I got a rude awakening a few years ago when I replaced my daughter's mattress with an $800 Simmons that cratered after less than a year.

When I started researching mattresses a few month ago, I soon found that none of the "S" brands make a quality product anymore.  They are all made with cheap PU foam...

Thanks for the update!  Please keep us posted on how the new Serta works out over the next few months.   I'm getting a bed for my daughter and am undecided between latex and a traditional mattress (latex just might not fit in the budget).  I now know not to get a Simmons . . . but wondering if a Serta would work out....

See my thread about "another defective Simmons" and it will give the drama of our mattress affairs. we refused to buy another Simmons from the store so ended up on a firm Serta with added latex we already owned. We did not realize the coil system was what my husband needed until a very recent trip to the dr. We had already received the Serta and noticed he was helped right away. My husband has structural issues and is in pain all the time. He is also a UPS driver, so his back and neck take a beating. The pain you seem to have appears to stem from your bed, due to the fact that it goes away and returns dependent on the mattress. Of course, I am not an MD, so that is only a guess.  I hope you find what you need. This forum is the place to...

If money is a deciding factor, I cant say anything against the Serta. We had to purchase from the brands carried by the furniture store, so we were limited. We looked thoroughly at Simmons, King Koil, Serta, Aviaro (once Spring Air), and some super inexpensive "house brands". I must say, for the money, the Serta won out for quality every time. Once this mattress wears out, we will be going the custom made route, and not go with the big S brands. These beds cost so much money, I feel that you should get the most for your dollar, and the big S brands just aren't doing right by the consumer. Since we had to abide by the stores policy, The Serta seemed to give the biggest bang for the buck, and that was at mid level all the way up to luxury bedding. Since we were happy for about...

So yesterday I received my new Serta Trump Home Bryant Park mattress and box spring. At first the store was going to make me get another Simmons mattress, but I said No Way. I told the manager that any factory that would let a mattress out the door with NO STUFFING in one end and a casing that is too large for the bed itself, does not deserve another shot. So, after 3 defective Simmons in a year I went with the Serta. I must choose from the brands the store carries and before this whole mattress mess started, it was a Serta that we were happy with for about 5 years.

I never thought I would ever buy anything with Trump's name on it, but I must say, the difference in quality and workmanship between the Simmons and the Trump Home by Serta, Is immeasurable. This is really solidly built....

I was researching values today on items for my parents Estate sale and read your post.  Their mattress was manufactured in 2/07 and is a Simmons BeautyRest Alana Vista Plus "full size".

The tags are still attached and say Made in USA by Simmons Bedding - Marked:

HMB TT BR ALANA VISTA PLUS

If you are still looking and this information does not help, I may be able to get more information off the tags.  If you live in Oregon, we have this one for sale and it is in great shape (like new).    Cheryl   raysglenn@yahoo.com...

Hi all - New to this site... We want a king mattress and have about 2k to spend. We were looking at the Simmons nxg 250 firm, but now I hear they're going out of bus, they get impressions, etc. Don't want to be stuck with a 2k stinker. We like firm with a little mem foam type give and like the non-disturb nautre of the beautyrest... Any rec's? We thought about sleep #, but the middle turned us off. We want a solid plane, no dips please! looking at the simmons black as well - stronger coils?

thanks!...
