One month short of 3 years ago, my platform bed had fallen apart.  I then tried to buy a bed but was allergic to either the Polyurethane in the bed or whateve the treated the suede on top of the bed with that was a Simmons Roosevelt from Rockaway Bedding.  I got so sick and was burning up and could not breath. I was told the bed was 100% natural latex which is was NOT so they finally took the bed back. Now I had no bed and no platform so I slept on the floor. It was so hard, that I put a very thin exercise mat underneath me on the carpeted bedroom floor. I was still uncomfortable and could not waste another 2 weeks looking for a bed and returning it during my busy season.  The decorating forum I am a member of told me to buy an...

Jim, I don't think you can rule out the mattress itself.  About a month ago I went to Macy's to try some of the different mattresses.  I noticed a difference in support between the different coil counts in both Sealy and Simmons.  In fact, it seemed to me at the time that the Sealy with 782 coil count (queen) was significantly different than the one with less (I believe it was their one with 732 coils).  It just felt more supportive. Supposedly they were the same gauge, but there might be some other construction differences.

Anyway, I concluded that I would have to buy the Sealy line that had the most coils (and a higher price), if I wanted the most support.  Although some people probably would think the one with the most coils is too firm (without adding a topper).

Not sure if a different number or a different gauge coils will help or hurt your situation,...

No problem budgy. No crapping preceived.

FloBeds is actually one of the more expensive latex mattresses on the Internet....

in some cases those numbers will be made public.  Eco-Institut (German) is the strictest company on 3rd party testing for latex foam.  Any one of their certified manufacturers has to score 100% on this to pass, this is the blank slate of tolerances you can look at.

They however do not publish the exact results only if they get a pass or not.  Companies can then choose to publish those results if they desire like this one has:

There is always "fillers" which consist of zinc oxide, and sulfur (ash).

^^ interesting.  I actually sell Simmons beds and I can't even count on all my fingers and toes the number of them I have had cave in within the first year of ownership.  Thank you for sharing your experience with this other company but I would not exactly use your own personal experience as the standard for Simmons mattresses, atleast not for the ones that are made today.

Offset coils do typically transfer much more motion than an independent coil though, the guage of wire in this case is definitely playing a large role in reducing this.  I have actually had in the past one local company I deal with custom build a mattress for our customers, we basically just wanted a decent spring mattress except instead of a bunch of layers of polyurethane foam we had them upholster it with 3 inches of latex.  When we got the first mattress...

all im going to suggest/add is that if you are considering latex based on the 'hypoallergenic' properties, resistance to moulds, bacterial growth, dust mites...etc.  Do not consider buying a Sealy spring free.   These benefits of latex are specifically referring to the properties of natural rubber.  If you want the full benefit of these properties you should really consider buying 100% natural latex.  Sealy uses 100% synthetic (SBR) rubber which offers basically none of those benefits and in addition to this the mattresses are always quilted with a top layer of polyurethane foam, which is another thing you want to avoid if you want these benefits.  Also anything you mix into natural rubber will degrade these qualities, so synthetic blends also lose most of this benefit.

As far as durability goes most of that is misinformation started by manufactuers like Latex International because they primarily only make synthetic blend rubber.  If...

Hi mattress geniuses,

I am hoping to get some advice.  Here are our specs:

Me (M): 6'  215 lbs - side sleeper switch sides frequently during night.  Sleep with pillow under my head another to hold onto with my arm and a body pillow for between my legs. Not sure if it is relevant but I also have severe acid reflux.  I tend to get hot while sleeping and am very allergic to dust mites (just giving all info :)  )

Wife (F): 5'7" 148 lbs - usually side sleeper but sometimes uses other positions / just one pillow under head

I'm looking for any and all kinds of advice regarding a latex mattress.  Our current bed is a king Simmons Beautyrest (either World Class or Classic or something similar judging by their pictures) we've had for about 6 years and it is getting pretty uncomfortable to sleep in.  The matching box springs would...

I purchased a queen mattress set made by Omaha Bedding, from Nebraska Furniture in August. I had to have the mattress replaced in October as it had caved in on the side I sleep on. I turned it over once in that short period of time. The replacement has caved in already on the side I sleep on and I have turned it once. I weigh 150 pounds.

To make a long story short...I hate this mattress. It's the mushiest globbiest most awful mattress I have ever slept on. I have always purchased Simmons mattresses and they NEVER CAVED IN!!! I would never buy another Omaha Bedding mattress ever again and I am telling everyone I know to do the same. What a waste of my money. Oh...and one more thing...it smelled terrible for about 3 weeks...both the original and the replacement. I understand I can only have this mattress replaced once by...

This is one of the worst mattresses I have ever owned! My wife and I tried dozens of mattresses at various stores and settled for the Alana Vista because it was quite comfortable and reasonably priced. However, less than 2 years after we bought it the springs began to give out. Now, I am 6' 4" and 175lbs...I should figure my weight is distributed pretty evenly over the mattress. Yet, a very deep impression began to form near the middle of my side of the bed. Currently (3 years into ownership) the indent is quite visible and VERY noticeable during the night. We attempted to submit a warranty request to Simmons and were told that "its normal for the bed to contour to your body". Well, seeing as how I am NOT a 600lb boulder with 2.5' diameter the bed is obviously not...
