The problem I have with the warranty is that you are led to believe the mattress will last 20 years. However, the bed softens over time and becomes saggy in the spots where you sleep. It can become so bad you can have major back pain and need a new mattress In order to get a replacement from tempurpedic it has to sag more than 3/4" when no one is on it. This is impossible to show since it springs back to its original position.Initially you may love this bed and then it needs to be replaced say maybe within a year! The only way your tempupedic mattress will last 20 years is if you aren't sleeping on it. And I have no idea how to get a replacement if the "only" problem is that the mattress is so soft it no longer offers any support..

Just purchased a cooling mattress pad -- the one with "Outlast Technology" (Lord only knows what that is).
The pad arrived and when we took it out of the box, it had an extremely strong, chemical odor. So we decided to wash it before trying it on the bed.
The instructions say it's ok to launder it and put it in the dryer (on low heat), though air drying is preferred.
Off my boyfriend went to the laundromat.
When I arrived home later, The Boyfriend had a sheepish look on his face. Turns out, the mattress pad disintegrated in the dryer! The entire bottom side of it was completely torn up, with sticky, white fluff everywhere. He said he dried it...

Re: sleeping hot: claiming that the mattress itself is not the culprit -- that it's all about bedding and room temperature -- is utter nonsense.
I have discovered this the hard way. Just purchased a new mattress (the saga is documented here on several posts), and it is definitely much warmer than my previous mattress or any other mattress I've tried. In fact, with my old mattress, as long as I didn't use too many covers, I was fine. It was only when I bought a new, thick mattress cover, that I felt the bed get warmer. So whatever material was in the mattress cover, it was a problem.
Our new, Stearns and Foster latex plush pillowtop is a whole different deal. The second I lie down, I feel the mattress heat up -- and it stays that way. I...

But we just bought an expensive new, latex Plush Stearns and Foster mattress, and it is DEFINITELY giving me "pushback"! (even through the mushy pillowtop).
I was lying awake at 2 AM last night, feeling the "pushback" and hating the damn mattress so much, I wished it would magically disappear.
I have started 2 other threads regarding the overheating problem with this mattress. But that is just part of the problem. I just don't like the feeling of the mattress at all. It does feel like it's "pushing back". I thought it was my imagination, but after reading some of the comments here, I know it's a real issue.
After sleeping on a very, very old traditional mattress that offered zero...

Hard to know whether to condemn all latex in all mattresses. I only know that my 20+ year old mattress was never too warm, and I kind of doubt it contained latex, but who knows.
I just get the feeling that these new, mile-high synthetic "luxury" mattresses are problematic. And now I'm nervous about ALL of them.
And it's not just the over-heating issue...the mattress has a wierd feel to it, in general.
One of the posters here wrote about how the S&F latex mattress (or maybe any latex mattress?) creates a "pushback" sensation. Bingo! As I lay awake at 2AM last night, I was painfully conscious of the "pushback" -- it's an odd kind of resistant firmness -- nothing like my old, traditional mattress.

Not only is that info not available on the S&F website, they don't even allow you to email a question to Customer Service...you have to phone or write a letter. Not sure they welcome a lot of questions.
I am determined to get to the bottom -- or the innards -- of the pillowtop question. But it may be a moot point.
I probably need to get a mattress along the lines of the one you described. I am also going to look at our local, high-end mattress manufacturer (McCroskey). Cost aside, the problem is, you can't return a mattress from those companies -- you just get one exchange. So you're stuck.
"Stuck" is the operative word when it comes to mattress buying. You don't know what you've got till you've got it home.
Buyer beware...

Latex (atleast here in America) is difficult because we Americans like softer, more plush, etc (think about how big the idea of a pillow top was for so many years) or we onlythink about "firmer is better for your back" which is inherently incorrect.
If your retailer will allow the exchange, spend the time finding the one that feels...

I found a "Stearns and Foster" at Costco a couple of years ago and was excited to see the price so low in comparison to the Stearns found in Sleep Shops. I found out later that (and I don;t understand how this is actually done) Kirkland had purchased the rights to place the name on their product. In essence, this made the bed a "Stearns and Foster Signature Bed by Kirkland" None of the Stearns elements were actuallty in the bed... just the name on the outside. I found quite a few complaints about that particuilar bed later on (afterowners had owned them for about 15 months).
I will use this scenario as well, when you are looking for a name brand at a low price, Costco and Sam's Club can be...
