I skipped the foundation since that had bad reviews and just topped my old Sealy box spring with two 3x5 1/4"sheets of Hardibacker board - easier to transport and cut than plywood. I wrestled the rolled mattress up and tore through the outer bag and then the vacuum sealed layer. It expanded to full size in seconds with minimal odor.
It is much more firm than I expected...

Costco's return policy is outstanding so there is not much financial risk - just inconvenience. I am thinking of buying a Tempur but figured I should at least try this out since it is significantly less costly and they will take it back if I don't love it. With that said, saving money on a piece of junk still leaves you with a piece...

The 10inch sleep science mattress with adjustable base is back in Costco on sale for 2099 and I'm considering buying it for our home. I came upon all the reviews here. And wanted to check back in with you to see how you like the mattress now that its been more than year after your review. Have you had any problems with the mattress?
Hope to hear back from you soon - your input is surely appreciated!

How do you like the Emma 10inch memory foam - I'm thinking about buying the same with the adjustable base. Your experience and pros and cons would really be helpful. Thanks.

I do have a new innerspring mattress that is a bit too firm for me, so it was suggested here I start with a 2" soft layer of latex, which might very well be enough to soften the bed to my taste. If not, I can add another thin layer of either the same material or something else.
It really depends on how soft or firm you like your bed. I prefer it soft. If you like a little more firmness, you can start with a firmer topper, then add a soft layer if need be. You don't want to get very thick toppers...

I think you'll find that method is quite recommended here, in fact that's what I'm in the process of doing after reading through the forum. If you get the firm mattress you can customize it with various layers on top to get exactly what you want and (hopefully!) not worry as much about the mattress sagging prematurely.

So, you are planning firm innerspring mattress + memory foam + latex?
How much are you planning for the memory foam & latex? Like ~1" each or more/less?
Thanks again!

And maybe I could add 1-2" of memory foam & then 1-1.5" of soft or medium latex on top of that? Then maybe you get a bit of all the best??
Or do you think that might be a mess?

I am pretty new to this forum, so trying to search, but not finding quite what I am looking for. Hoping the readers here can assist.
We are looking for a new mattress set up. We both like a firm mattress, with a little cushion on top. But, do not want pillowtop because of the known sagging issues. We are not small people, but not overweight either.
My parents have a 2" latex topper on a firm memory foam mattress from Ashley's. I've slept in it for a week or so while pet sitting before and it was pretty comfy. Took about two nights to adjust, then good. Our guest room has a Spring Air firm with cheap memory foam topper and isn't too bad either.
So, a few quick questions....
