Re: what's best bed to stop movement? - jimsocal

I hate feeling like I'm almost asleep and then my partener moves, waking me up... and it happens over and over, until my body says ok give up not going to sleep now. I have a queen "bowling ball bed" from Sears, 2002, and we decided screw it this summer getting a king, I so need my room, and I'm trying to do some research. I definatly want the best. What is honestly good for movement?
Latex has very little of what is known as "transfer of motion" from one side to the other.
Another solution is to do what my wife and I do - though it's somewhat of a radical solution and not ideal - and put 2 twins beds next to each other with however much in between that you need for him/her not...

Sounds like you got a better match for you than you had before. My daughter sleeps on her stomach and that typically requires a firmer bed than for a side or back sleeper. Don't bother with toppers unless the bed is really uncomfortable the way it is, and if you do get one, don't get it too thick or you'll be back where you started with the last bed.
No matter what, you won't typically find a bed that is made anywhere near what your old bed(the 20yo hand me down)was. They just don't make them like that anymore. If you did not trade it in with your new bed, I'd be really curious to find out what the inside configuration was. They did not use as much foam in them as they do now, and used other things for cush.
I had a friend stay...

In my own personal experience i find my latex mattress cooler sleeping than the Simmons mattress I had prior. Out of all varieties of foam latex both dunlop or talalay will breathe better than anything else. I personally think nothing would sleep much cooler than an all natural fibre fill mattress although there are drawbacks to this as well. And even the worst offending mattresses (most memory foams) can be made live able with the proper bedding. I believe with the right duvet, sheets, and maybe mattress protector you could alleviate thermal imbalance issues on just about any mattress....

Just an update everyone, I'm sleeping sooooooooo much better now thanks to my new Stearns and Foster Firm mattress.
So glad I did the exchange!
I haven't needed a topper either, the bed is comfortable enough as is.
Thanks everyone who posted in here for your help :)

Re: Your Favorite Latex Pillow? - MissMac

Leo3 and narnia: I appreciate your input! I bought 2 Simmons latex foam pillows about 2+years ago (before I had ever heard of latex foam) and cannot use them. Neither can the hubby. We sink down too far into them and don't seem to have any real support on our necks, just flatness. I just checked the tag on them and it does say Louisville Bedding Co also and talalay foam with a 10 year guarantee. Based on this, I am wondering if you could describe your pillows or the way they feel as sinking down into them? I know this is a very subjective answer and 10 people would probably have 10 answers, but I would appreciate your thoughts! Does the Nature's Loft pillow do this too? I want my head to sink in some but still support my neck.

Re: Foundation Questions for Latex Mattresses - MissMac

We have a new king 13" latex (8 pieces) and are using our old simmons foun dation until we decide what to buy. I love the latex, but I can tell our old foundation sags. From other posts, it sounds like we could put some type of board over the old foundation. But I understand we don't want a solid bottom as the latex needs to breathe. True? I read here about putting some pegboard over the foundation. Would this work and allow enough air circulation to the bottom layer of latex? And we could also lay slats horizontally? Would I feel the slats with the 4 layers of latex? Thanks for your help....

Thank you for the reply. We are still debating what to do. The guy i talked to yesterday at Mattress Giant, I asked him several questions and it was very difficult to still pick. He didnt knock simmons because he sells it, but between the two the price is right and the comfort is pretty good at MG but at MF the comfort is slightly better. I still have more deciding to do. This is a major investment to me because of funds. He also told me that all pillow tops will eventually sag because of the way that they are but that the locksley is one of the better ones because of the latex foam. Id like to know what the material is in the MF beautyrest.

King Size Airsprung Locksley Model / Mattress Giant - volindsay

I have been trying to decide between two beds and am having a hard time figuring it out. My girlfriend and I went into Mattress Giant the otehr day and found this brand/model that they said was exclusive to them with a 10 year warranty. Now it uses a foundation for the bottom instead of a box spring. Today we went into Mattress Firm and saw a Simmons Beauty Rest which felt similar. The lady at Firm informed us of several things but i wanted to do more research to figure it out.
She said that the type of mattress the airsprung has, the coils bonnel?, were bad that they wear down quicker than the simmons BR Stage 1. That the foundation is also bad, that I need to get a box spring, which for a king they are trying to sell me two twinxl's.

Most important is that you find a mattress that is comfortable for you.
The Airsprung product is manufactured by International Bedding Company. The foundation provides the support necessary for the mattress to last and perform as you expect it to over time. The Bonnell coil system is a quality coil unit. The Bonnell has been used in the industry for years and has proven to be a reliable and durable coil system. After reviewing the specifications at www.mattressgiant.com the Locksley also has a significantly better fabric and latex. which is a premium product.
Simmons Beautyrest is also a quality product. Simmons does not use a "boxspring" either. The only difference between the Airsprung foundation and the Simmons foundation is that Simmons uses a small amount of steel in the foundation for support. The Simmons Beautyrest has more coils and as a result more steel. An argument...
