I happened to be looking at a Stearns and Foster 97% latex mattress just for fun (I was really there to look at their Intellicoil pocket coils which are made from one wire twisted into a spring within a spring; very ingenious design). Anyway as I was trying out the latex mattress a representative from S&F was there and asked me if I had any questions! Boy, did I! I am sure he did not expect to encounter someone who was well-versed in latex specs and who in all honesty probably knows more about it than he did.
However, he made the claim that natural latex will NOT last as long as synthetic latex (i.e. retain it's positive properties). I said I had heard different and was...

Yes, I am the "king of all nuts" here at the forum in a way because I have spent so much time experimenting with foams and DIY projects. It's been both a hobby and experimentation born out of necessity. My posts # is due to my having been here a long time more than posting often. Though admittedly I do go through spurts of posting often. I find the idea of creating my own mattress fascinating and this grew out of trying a number of other mattresses - including all latex and all foam, including Tempurpedic, and various "S Co" spring mattresses as well - and finding that none of...

*1" of Natural Talalay - 32 ILD
*1" of Talalay, maybe Talatech, not sure - around 28-34 ILD.
*2" (approximately) of firm Dunlop (it's supposed to be 32 ILD but it feels more like 36 or 38ILD to me.
A frame like this from IKEA except mine does not have the 5 zones, mine is the same top to bottom, but bowed wood like this. I could not find it at IKEA's site, I think they no longer carry it but this is the closest thing to it.

As it turns out, for me, "less is more". I have tried up to 6" of various latex layers and/or memory foams of various ILD's and densities over the...

We need to know how heavy you are - your height and weight matters.
If you are 5 feet 2" and weigh 110 lb then I'd say 3" of the right kind of latex might be okay for you, though honestly I doubt it.
I weigh about 190 and am 5'10" tall and I am sleeping on about 4" of latex. From the top down:

I am not trying to make this a pissing contest about natural being better than blended or dunlop being better than talalay....its just that the onus of proof and the burden of providing technical relevant data should be on the talalay producers....in another 30 years if we see a lot of people saying they have been sleeping on a talatech latex mattress for 45 or 50 years then I would be very happy to see that as I do tell the product myself....part of my job is not giving people unrealistic expectations because I don't want people to hold me accountable if their product doesn't last as long as its purported to.

Thank goodness score keeping doesn't really matter....your post is about as useful as saying there are more Muslims than Hindu's in the world therefore the Muslims must be 'right'.
Let's try to be objective here...all 3 of those vendors primarily sell LI latex and/or skewed towards selling...

I think that a lot of retailers have been sold the story by Latex International to believe that their talatech latex foam is somehow special. I am not going to say its inferior by any means, just that at the end of the day these are businesses, and businesses are driven by profit more than integrity. I have yet to see any proper scientific comparison done between blended talalay...

I called csd and they also insisted that blended latex lasts much longer then all natural latex and that it is better.

On the 6" core, they build these with either 38 or 32 ILD natural Dunlop.
The next 2" is customized to the purchaser based on their prefernces and can be Talalay or Dunlop. The Talalay is Talatech from LI (their blended Talalay product) and can be chosen in 19, 24 or 28 ILD's. If you go with a 28 ILD that could also be chosen as Dunlop. He basically admitted that the 7 zone sleep system is more marketing than anything. There is a 7 zone topper out there made from Dunlop by Latexco (http://store.mattresses.net/3-inch-latex-mattress-topper.html ), so I'm thinking if you go with Dunlop you might get this type layer. I did not confirm that...
