Re: Hesitating : Beautyrest Cushion firm or Memoryworks Memory foam - Good_Sleep

Memory foam works is chinese made foam.  You can verify this by looking at the law label.  It's imported for Sealy.  Personally, I would stick with an Amercan made product.  Which would be the Simmons.

spring mattresses are going to sag.. If that is really a concern latex gives the support feel of spring but will tend to outlast springs.

This is one opinion.  I have a 20 year old beautyrest in my guest room that doesn't sag.  I used it before going to latex, which softned up (sagged by some folks definition) to much for me after 3 years (another opinion).

After reading this tread about two-sided mattresses and doing a bit more research, I decided to go for the Rex Bedding  (of Plainfield, New Jersey) two-sided mattress. The purchase was made at International Furniture in Manhattan (113 Bowery). I was very pleased to buy an old-fashioned mattress Made by hand in the USA. So you cannot imagine my dissapoitment when after one week of sleeping on it I noticed it started sagging in the middle. The mattress is a Queen size, therefore not too large, and I am a 130lbs female. It is now 3 mos later and the sag is so pronounced that I need to flip it already. This is a total new experience for me, as none of my many other mattresses, no matter how cheap, started sagging after one week?...

Dunlop-processed natural latex can be SUPER firm and supportive.

Sometimes if you get it too firm people say it's like sleeping on cement. LOL.

I find that a medium firm Dunlop latex piece is very firm but comfortable, especially with some medium Talalay latex on top of that - so like 4-7" of Dunlop on the bottom, and 2-3" of Talalay on the top.

There are companies out there selling mattresses like this that offer comfort exchanges during a 60-100 day sleep trial. I would recommend this. But they're not cheap. Flobeds uses all Talalay I think but it also can be very firm. The one I am looking at is from plushbeds. A sleep trial is essential when trying a latex mattress in my opinion and both these companies offer that.

Smoonly, a picture doesn't help much. You also need to be more specific about what kind of mattress you are looking for and if you have any sleep "issues" like bad back, or anything.

Many people here recommend latex and I am one of those.

There is a mattress I am looking at at plushbeds.com called the Botanical Bliss. It is pure latex with cotton and wool and has a 100 day sleep trial. I am not promoting the company nor have I ever ordered from them but I know a lot about latex mattresses and from what I can read on their site it looks like a winner. Flobeds is another recommended company with a great exchange policy to help you get it adjusted best for your firmness.

Those are my recommendations without any specific info from you.

HI Sandman, how are you doing?  Praises to your for still hanging out here and helping out.

I think I may have reported a while back that I bought a low end Simmons Beautyrest which escaped the factory with no appreciable comfort layer... and it was sold in their wholesale shop for $300.  After trying all sorts of 1" to 2 " combos of latex and mem foam, I have concluded that 1 inch 20 ILD FBM is just enough of a comfort layer.  And the SBR does the best of any mattress of conforming around the shoulders when side sleeping due to the longitudinal only connection of the coil pockets.  The coils under the shoulder bone and hip bone bear the weight and compress and the coil 'string' on either side not as much = support without pressure...

Hi Folks,

For sale local in Marietta GA 30068, face to face cash sale:

Queen 1" Latex 32 ILD (medium) latex topper from www.foambymail.com which sells for $99 delivered.   Your price $40

Queen 1" 5.3 lb density memory foam topper from www.foamorder.com  (Sandman measured his at 5.9 lb density and quite firm) This has a stain on it

from the factory but does not hurt the functionality of it at all.  I placed the "sunburn" side down.

These were my last attempts at improving my pretty good Beauty Rest Simmons which escaped the factory without a comfort layer with just 1 inch of 20 ILD latex topper from FBM on top.

One helpful aspect of a one inch topper is that you can fold it in half and judge whether 2...

Hi,

First welcome and good luck in finding what works.  Most of what I read online indicates that nearly half of reviewers don't like their mattresses, and it is indeed a smarmy industry of hiding the names and facts to avoid price competition.

I bought and tried no fewer than 26 mattresses over the course of five years and tried a wide variety of toppers of latex and memory foam.  I am perhaps 75% side sleeper, 25% back/flip flop restless, age 62 male, 165 pounds, 6'.  I injured my back several years ago and that has likely prevented me from finding the "perfect" bed.  I have thrashed around with this so long that my wife and I sleep in separate rooms.... "most" of the time... and because we are both restless sleepers, get much better sleep this way.

Quick hits:  Memory foam even if...

Re: Best OMF matress to buy to add a topper to later? - Sall

As for OMF and general guidelines, I will give you my opinion.  I am a latex fan and sleep on a zoned all latex mattress.  So my suggestion for a less expensive mattress is to buy a firm mattress from OMF with as little polyurethane foam as possible because that is what sags very quickly especially on pillow top type mattresses. I would aim for 1/2 inch of polyfoam (or less, if possible).  I've had experience with it on a Simmons World Class pillow top that sagged and started hurting my back within 1.5 years.  I have also had experience with OMF.  They make good mattresses EXCEPT for the poly foam on top.  They actually have Latex mattresses but there is some polyfoam on top and they are not inexpensive.  In fact that's what I advised my daughter to do.  She went to OMF and bought a fairly firm inner...
New Mattress Dilemma - Innerspring/memory/latex - manny

We've been sleeping on the same old crappy cheap extra firm $99 4-5 inch foam mattress for Ikea for over 10yrs. Since we were young, we never noticed the difference. Now we are in our 30s and value our sleep more than ever and want to make sure we do it right. After visiting Raymour and Flanigan and Macy's and being hounded by the pushy salesman who make telemarkets look slick we are a bit confused to say the least. We tried iComforts, Beautyrests (Black series) that felt decent in the showroom and other Sealy/Simmons/Hotel Collection beds as well. We also tried a firm latex mattress. Lying there on a matress in a showroom for 5-10 minutes I feel is inadequate to judge durability, comfort down the line and quality, specially when those sales clowns are breathing down your neck. I've decide to turn to the internet. What we are...
