Anyhoo, Mr. Veasy told me (claimed) that retailers charge a large fee (something like $5,000) per mattress to the mfrs. for every store.  He also mentioned there are other retailer fees, something called 'Spiffs' that are charged to the manufacturers.  And other fees too.  If all true, it sounded like large chunks of money are raked in by retailer from manufacturers.  Plus, apparently there are large mark ups.

If all true, no wonder the prices are high and the materials perhaps are not...

I talked to Serta Intl customer service.  They said contact Sears for any return of exchange priviledges.

Sears really does not 'watch after' their customers.  They have an ultra rigid 30 day return or exchange period on the first mattress purchase.  The upside - everyday low prices, and they build to order so you will get a 2-day old mattress when delivery knocks on the door.

Other downside is Sears selection of mattress lags behind the major bed stores.  But they have iComforts which bed stores do not carry here.  For those into iComforts.

Bummer! So what good does it do for a manufacturer to offer a warranty if...

Re: Original Mattress Factory? Pillowtops vs Talalay Latex Foam vs Tempurpedic Memory Foam? - slpngoc

You're not alone.  I'm pretty rail thin and have had a hell of a time lately, but I'm learning.  I think Tempurpedic might be some of the most pressure relieving out there.  It is a very popular brand.  I don't think they are a bunch of marketing shysters.  The places they are sold have liberal return policies, so they would be returned if they stunk (pun intended!).  The issue of toxic foam .... I don't have an answer for that.  I would personally sleep on a Temurpedic.  I used a TP symphony pillow for years and never had a problem.

I have a lot of years on innerspring, 4 weeks on an iComfort memory foam bed and 1 1/2 weeks on an all latex bed.

About the all latex.  Well, it is not popular in stores.  Each store has maybe one or two models of latex...

Just remember, Tempurpedic is the leader in 'memory foam' (even though they don't call it that).  I'm somewhat convinced there are a bunch of pretenders and knock off brand who don't quite have it together.  I'm sure Tempurpedics outsells all other memory foam brands by a big margin.

Look around for the TP Contour Select, they just came out couple months ago, but it feels good.  Medium feel with nice contour and pressure relief.  10" mattress height which is a nice number to me.

After what I experienced with that gel memory foam topper, even if they made a Novaform gel foam mattress in twin XL, doubt it would work.

Consider Tempurpedic has convoluted foam channels for air to escape.  I don't see that in iComfort or other memory foam beds.

slpngoc,

Sorry to hear this! I wonder if this was our issue with the latex? We only have like 8" of latex on the wood foundation which really had no give at all! Sadly, at this point I am not about to try all that again. Rolling those latex layers back up into the boxes for return was less than thrilling. And one of the funnier things I've ever done too.

Do you still have your other box springs? can you go back to that and see if it's better?

I went mattress hunting again for a little while yesterday and I did really like the Tempurpedic Deluxe. Seems like a nice medium to firm. Not so soft and sinking as the...

It is business though.  And if mattress making...

I would recommend being careful selecting out an iComfort Revolution.  The Revolution comfort layers are 2" Koolcomfort memory foam with another 2.75" gel memory foam underneath .... that's 4.75" memory total and that is a lot!

In my opinion, the Revolution has more 'sink' than even a Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe, and that is a really soft, plush bed.  I believe it is Temurpedic's softest bed.  The Luxe also has 4.75" memory foam, but the bottom 2" is their HD memory foam, high density.   I seriously doubt either iComfort Revolution layer is as dense as Tempur HD.

I think the Genius is the more 'middle of the road' choice in iComfort.  But to each their own.

Sealy Embody Introspection memory foam - Dallasgirl
Aug 23, 2011 6:16 PM
Took my husband to Mattress Firm tonight to try the Tempurpedic Contour Select (and also the Advantage). The one I originally liked was the Tempurpedic Deluxe, now discontinued. Tempur tells me that the Contour Select is the model closest to the Deluxe. For me personally, I felt like it was quite a bit softer. I just laid on the Deluxe twice this past weekend and Contour Select felt softer for sure (IMO). Advantage was good, but very firm. Both a very slow recovery time.

The store manager also showed us the Sealy Embody Introspection. Said the quality of the Sealy now is as good as Tempur, just a little bit different feel, and sleeps cooler. And, my husband and I actually both liked the Sealy Introsoection better than the Tempur models. It was a nice medium to firmish, but a nice amount of contour. A little bit springier...

Ok, I've spent about 4-5 nights on the new icomfort Revolution.  I'd like to mention my experience, as well as respond to a few of your responses as well.

"I'm giving up on this bed.  3 1/2 weeks, neck stiff and makes noise every morning.  Pressure relieving on joints, that's the only plus.  Inadeqaute support, sink in too much. Leave it to Serta to make this lineup go from Insight to Prodigy as medium, firm, ultra plush and plush.  I found the same thing with the Vera Wang latex collection.  Serta is off the mark, IMO."

Inadequate support for your body.  Works great for me.  But I've witnessed my FAVORITE bed (Cloud Luxe) mis-align other people's spine, meaning that the support was WRONG for their body shape/size/distribution.  I disagree that the support is "inadequate".  You simply chose the wrong bed.   Also, Serta offers...

It is time to call it quits on our 16-year-old king size pillow-top mattress. We have extended the life of this mattress with several toppers on it over the years; the first one was a feather bed that was pleasant until it started excreting white feathers that swirled like snowflakes on our the hardwood floors. It was quickly replaced with a memory foam topper, which has been on the bed for the past two years and has done much to keep the old bed comfortable, but still ... it's time.

With the Labor Day sales last weekend it seemed a great place to start, and so I found myself staring at the ceiling of the Sears showroom from the iComfort beds. I was drawn to memory foam due to our good experience with our mattress topper, and to the iComfort two reasons in particular:  its promise to "sleep...
