Hellbed,

If I was in the market for a new mattress Gardner would be the very first place I would be.I've been to 3 of their stores and each time was treated like a real person with no "gotta purchase now" attitude.Their salespeople are very knowledgable about their product line.

As a matter of fact when I was having doubts about my online latex mattress they offered solutions to fix my problem rather than try to steer me towards one of their beds.

Just great people in my book and no...I don't own one of their mattresses (yet). If I were to buy a bed today I would option for their full sacro, 2 sided flippable mattress with a real boxspring. It is a very firm mostly cotton filled old-time mattress.

If you are interested in one of their spring mattresses better act quick as their Winter sale is over Feb.22nd.

What kind of fire retardants are you looking to avoid or get?  That is another issue you need to ask yourself.  That is why I would look at Gardner (not sure about theirs) and Natura.  Look for organic or make sure they say what it is.  I read on my tag (wool pad) of Natura that they use Boric Acid on the mattresses that aren't labeled organic.  At least they tell you!  But I  wouldn't buy it, I don't care what "they" say; if it kills bugs (and it does) what does it do to you?

Gardner's Mattresses makes spring mattresses and puts latex layers on the top.  Not sure what else they make.  But visit their website.  There is someone here who bought one and liked it.  But it was too firm and they added 3" of soft latex over that.

If I lived near Boston (I think) I would visit that store.

Does Natura make innerspring?

Thanks, Folks.

Once comment about this site:  It's impossible for me to find the threads i posted, even if I log in and look at my profile.  There's not option there to "find all posts by this person" or anything.  I had to remember the words from my posting and then "search" for them just to find this thread again!

Anyway, it seems my best bet to prevent sagging is to go with latex.  After reading this site, I refuse to buy another S brand or anything else at the typical stores today, as they're all crap.

Does anyont know where i can find a STORE in the Boston or MA area who makes mattresses well?  I don't want to deal with online stuff for various reasons.

Thanks!

Isn't that where Latex International is?  Near MA area?  There should be latex sold there.  Go to Latex International's website and there...

Agreed, you can't change out the layers in a Gardner mattress.  BUT, they also have many other innerspring mattresses that are very well made (including one with a latex pillow top).  Plus, you can try out several latex matresses to see what the LI latex feels like.   I was also reluctant to order a latex matress online, but in handsight, wish that I had!   I ended up buying another 3 inch layer online to add to the top of my Gardner latex mattress, but now I have a nice setup for a good price overall. ...

As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat "Gardner Mattress" in the Boston area.   I got my latex mattress from them and they also have many spring models which are all handmade at their factory in Salem, MA   (NOT Gardner, MA).    TIP....go to the store in Salem, MA and not one of the other factory outlets.   The pricing is a little better in Salem, and you can often "deal" with the owner of the business there.    Check them out at:   www.gardnermattress.com...
Re: Foundation Questions for Latex Mattresses - markbnh1

One of the reasons that I bought my 100% latex mattress from a local company (Gardner Mattress in Mass.) is that I loved their foundation for the mattress.   Its a VERY sturdy foundation with a heavy duty metal and wood frame.   The idea of getting a foundation from one of the online sellers which was merely wood slats in a box did not appeal to me.  HOWEVER, I later found out that I could have purchased just the foundation alone locally.

IF I had it all to do over again, I would buy just the foundation from a local mattress company and order the mattress from Flobeds or FoamSweetFoam online.....to have the flexiblity of moving layers around, etc.     Live and learn.    I hope someone else can benefit from my experience....

I'm sleeping on one of their latex mattresses right now.   I don't know that much about their spring mattrresses but they are a great company to deal with.  I believe they still make mattresses the old fashion way....by hand and made to order.   I did one comfort exchange on my latex and they  gave me no problem whatsoever.    Here is one tip though......go to the store right at the factory in Salem, Mass and you will get slightly lower prices PLUS the ability to deal with the owner, Gardner Sisk, directly.  Tell him exactly what you want and I'm betting he will make it that way for you.   Whatever you get will be much better than any of the S brands or furniture store beds.

Budgy, yes they only sell direct from about 4 factory outlet stores as I recall--1 in NH and 3 in Mass.....

Thanks, folks!  This all really helps.  I've learned so much and REFUSE to get foiled again by cheaply made mattresses with PU Foam!  I am going to check out Gardner Mattress in Salem and also consider buying online.  Thank goodness for the info on the web!  You've all helped me a lot.  I'll post an update.
