Hope it all works out.  Remember, if in the future your Simmons starts to develop a dip because the comfort materials are compressing, you can always do mattress-surgery as others here have.  You just cut open the mattress, remove all the failing foam and fibres, and replace them with a latex or memory foam topper.  All the best.

Both manufacturers are near the bottom in terms of quality and customer satisfaction, from what I have heard. I myself bought a Simmons about 10 years ago and would never buy another one because I am not convinced they solved the inherent problem in their springs.

The Simmons you mention has some Talalay latex in it. That's a good thing but I wonder how much. 1/2"? 1"? Bet it ain't much. For $7k it should have some major latex layers in it! But of course they don't tell you that on the web pages because they don't want people asking questions about what's in their mattresses.

They are both pillowtops. If you did the slightest bit of research here in the forum you would know that pillowtops are the worst thing to buy.

My best advice is to do some research before you buy. You...

Three years ago I bought my daughter a Simmons mattress - I don't remember the model, but it was plush.  Last year it developed a giant crater in the middle where the cheap foam has broken down.  Lucky for me she's young and the crater doesn't bother her.   But it's an undeniable fact that the cheap materials in the mattress didn't last more than two years.

I'll never buy another Simmons or any of the "S" brand mattresses again.

quick question for you....is this a Simmons Beautyrest?  Because I have literally laid on the springs with no upholstery and they were fairly comfortable. in which case I dont think you will need to have much more than 2 inches of latex if at all

personally i think because the Simmons coils are conforming and forgiving that just a 2" layer of soft, medium or firm latex depending on your comfort preference could do the trick.  I wouldn't worry about the 1/2" layer underneath the coils its a solid bloc foam that is meant to basically never compress and give a good seating edge for the coils.

Re: Returning my Tempurpedic...Anyone know anything about Latex Natural Response Series (Sears)? - budgy

I guess my advice would be based on whether or not Sears will refund you the full difference if you took a basic Simmons Beautyrest.  It might almost be the better option....I see just as much polyurethane foam if not more being used in this "latex" mattress as you typically see in most pillowtop mattresses anyway. Based on what a lot of forum members have posted up since I have joined and I now have a better idea of the American market place you can do substantially better than this mattress for the price if you want to go latex.  I thought Sears is one of the few places that does full refunds?

Thanks everyone for your feedback.  DianeK my Kingsdown is 11 years old and is totally worn out and the springs have lost their support.  The bed is sagging like crazy and its pretty much done.

I decided to go ahead with my original decision to purchase the Simmons bed at Sleep Country.  I'm a very tired stay at home mother of two babies and I just can't give this any more of my energy.  I've spent weeks at bed stores, lying on every kind of bed, talking to sales people and researching on the internet.   I really liked the bed in the store and if it only lasts 5 years than so be it.  I'll never know unless I try it out for myself.

Thanks again!

I have found a number of small factories with 2 sided mattresses. one right in Brooklyn. but they mostly do not use great coil systems. on another thread a poster just bought a gardner but the coil count was 260. most are around 300 from what I can see.and they are all, so far at least, bonnell. which is not what I want to build on. I could try it on a simmons system, but they have had failure problems and I don;t know if it would hold up.

Mattress Surgery Help? - jasesun23

I've was looking for a new mattress and in my search came across this site. I was just looking for something to give me a better night’s sleep, something to help me feel more rested in the morning. I tend to toss and turn a lot.  I saw the posts about mattress surgery and figured if I was going to throw out my mattress why not try some surgery first. My mattress is a 2002 Simmons mattress. I figured I'd just remove everything and was left with just the coils which are in very good condition.  As everyone else who has done surgery has noticed there is nothing but cheap foam in the mattress. This was a non flip mattress. On the bottom was 3/4 of an inch of light PU foam. The top had a thin fabric on top of the coils, then the same 3/4 inch light weight...

Thanks. I read that I should stay away from polyurethane foam because it will cave in. I didn't think the Natural Response bed had any. Is it diguised in...
