We are stuck with a Simmons Beautyrest Plush mattress. Brand New, unable to return. Of course it felt great in the store and the first couple of nights, but then the low back pain started. The thing is, it feels great under the shoulders when side sleeping however having a lot of low back pain which i think is due to not being supportive enough. I am desperate for your creative solutions to this problem and welcome any suggestions. Would placing a firm topper, if there is such a thing, under the lumbar/hip area help with this? Or how about placing a piece of plywood under the hip area( under the mattress of course)? Thank you!!!
Well, if you absolutely cannot return it and it is absolutely too soft, your only real option is mattress surgery. Take out the cheap foam on top, add some...

i tried the Simmons NXG and it was indeed comfortable, so much so that I was tempted to purchase it. However, if you've done your research, then you will know that beneath that comfy memory foam is cheap PU foam that will breakdown within a few years. In fact, my older daughter has a Simmons mattress that broke down after only a few years, and now has a giant crater in the middle of it.
If you are comfortable sleeping on the Rhapsody (which I also tried out and liked) I'd stick with it.

I second the recommendation to
stay away from any and all
Simmons products. They do not offer any comfort guarantee and are impossible to deal with. In my opinion they have inferior products despite how the mattress may feel initially in the product showroom. The only reason they are being sold is because they have some slick, snake oil salesmen doing their dirty work! OK, so i have a strong opinion but dont say you were not warned!!!!

Also did i mention that they are very overpriced. One piece of advice that i can offer after learning the hard way is to purchase something that is returnable in case it does not work out for you. Sleep trials are not that much helpful either because if your reselected mattress does not work out you are out of luck. Costco...

Re: What is the closest latex bed to a Flobed product, something I could - cynicaljones

But still looking to see if there is a comparable quality latex bed that I can view locally by Simmons/Serta/Sealy, etc. Anyone know?
I don't think you're going to find anything comparable to the layer style latex beds in a department store or run of the mill bed store. They will try to tell you they are 100% latex, but they are not. In my experience they were often an inch or three of 100% "blended" latex sandwiched between polyfoam.
Do you have any discount mattress shops nearby? I visited a couple that had larger stocks of Englander beds, they have varying amounts of latex. One had a brand called ReNu. It had a few layers of latex, but I'm not sure where those layers were. One shop even promised, as I was leaving, he'd be getting...

Thanks everyone. I still havn't bought a new bed mainly because I don't want to make another $2000 mistake. I still have a couple questions though. The Lotus by Pranasleep uses a polycore and from what I was told is that it would theoretically last longer than a coil mattress because there are no moving parts like springs. I brought up the fact that typically what fails most in mattresses is the pu foam and they said that since it is in the core and not the top that it would last longer. I wanted to get your thoughts on that. Also I have been reading up on here that some people just can't get used to an all latex mattress so my question is what kind of sleeper would benefit from a coil mattress vs. an all latex mattress? I did lay on the Sealy Beachside and it was...

Thank you, also great advice. In hindsight, I should have looked at the details of the 60-day guarantee more closely and purchased from a retailer who gave a no-strings money-back guarantee (such as ordering from Tempurpedic directly) as opposed to a reselect option. ...

Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it. I did see that it had PU foam under the memory layer, however I wasn't sure of the quality/longevity. It sounds like your daughter's experience is a good example of Simmons layers' lack of longevity/durability. Is the "base layer" of the Rhapsody PU foam? Tempurpedic has a reputation for high quality foam, so it may not make a difference the composition. If Simmons' foam layers are inferior thus break down, then that is a deciding factor (the NXG firm 100 has 1 1/2 in. NXG memory foam and 1 in. PU underneath).
Thanks again for your input.

I am new to this forum but have found it very helpful as I researched my new bed purchase; now I am looking for some advice.
I'm a firm sleeper and like the feel of memory foam. After trying out several beds and researching, I narrowed it to the Simmons Nethanial Firm "Advantage Collection" (Slumberland's branding of what I think from researching is the NXG 100F) for $1300 and the Tempurpedic Rhapsody which was $3150 (with foundation, queen comfort pillow, bed/pillow protectors, and frame). Since this is a long term purchase, I did not mind the significant investment to get the right mattress. However, now I'm in a quandry. First it slept a little hot so I changed the sheets, which solved that problem. Now it feels "solid" and I wake up 4-5 times a night to shift. However, no pain and it is comfortable.
I went back to Slumberland to...
