I sent the N3 piece in question to LI, as instructed. They inspected it, and said that it was fine, and that the little crumbles were left over from the cutting process. I had described it as best I could, but there wasn't really a way for them to tell for sure except by looking at the actual piece.
The replacement N3 topper came yesterday, and it was carefully packaged (not a single crumb), and it was perfect. They even sent me a seamless piece, though the seam in the first piece, while not expected, was not a problem. Pretty great customer service there.
"Sleepswithcats" asked: "If you wipe off all of the latex crumbles is the latex perfect? .... Is the color uniform? Does more latex crumble off the...

(Note added in Jan. 2012: The topper-search saga turned into a mattress-surgery saga. Mattress surgery details are farther down in the thread.)

I'm looking for opinions on the next way to tweak my toppers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the current setup:
Two-year-old 9" high old-fashioned, two-sided (flippable), firm innerspring mattress (full size), on a wooden [correction: wood and steel] foundation; both still in very good shape.
On top of the mattress: 2" 32 ILD Talatech latex topper from SleepLikeABear.
On top of that: 1" Talatech latex topper, 24 ILD.
The 3" of latex are enclosed in a heavy-ish cotton/poly cover from FBM.

My wife and I are going to put together our own king size latex mattress. There is a foam supplier in our city that can purchase Latex International Talatech latex foam in twin XL size in 6” thickness. The foam supplier then said he could cut the 6” thick foam in half creating two 3” layers. We are planning on doing three 3” latex layers with a zipper terry cloth cover. So now I have to decide what ILD foam I should order. We are both primarily side sleepers (my wife sometimes sleeps on here stomach). I am 6’3” 275lbs and she is 5’9” 165 lbs. We prefer our bed to be firm. We were thinking 3” of ILD 44 on the bottom, 3” of ILD 36 in the middle and 3” of ILD 28 for the top. We already have a St. Dormiere wool mattress pad....

I stumbled on Wat's Da Best while researching latex mattresses. I ordered a Foam By Mail product (same as Foam Factory) for our RV that is 3 inches of "soft" Talalay latex estimated ILD was 20 to 24 at the time over 5 inches of their HD36-R poly foam base. In our RV there is no room for a box spring so we're sleeping on a "board" but I was worried this 8 inch mattress would be too soft.
Actually, it's slightly too firm, both the wife and I wake up slightly stiff and sore, like we slept on the floor. I will try to fix this with a 1 or 2 inch layer of something softer; for example, Sleep Like A Bear's 14 ILD Talalay toppers. I would like to add a nicer cover and make this our main bed.

I keep seeing this comparision on many websites:
Percent Loss of Core Thickness:
- LI Talatech®: 3.3%
- European Talalay latex: 5.7% (73% more loss than LI)
- European Dunlop process latex: 7.5% (127% more loss than LI)
- Asian 100% natural latex: 12.5% (279% more loss than LI)
But it seems to be comparing Talatech (a blend) with European Talalay! How about Domestic Talalay vs Imported Talalay?
