What is your reason for abandoning your current Kingsdown?  Have the springs worn out or are you just tired of the firmer feel is has.  If it is the latter, and the bed is still in good shape, consider putting a topper on it and see if that gives you what you need before buying a new mattress.  The memory foam topper at Costco is completely returnable (altho it off-gasses something terrible), so you could experiment without $ at risk.  Just a thought.

Re: Kingsdown and Sex - icrnk

I've have a kingsdown and no problem with it's softness.  It's a little different but you get accustomed to it.  I have since replaced the Kingsdown due to the lack of support from the thick pillow top.  I suggest not getting a pillowtop and just buying your own if you decide you prefer a pillowtop.  This way you can atleast fluff it up (the pillowtop that is)....
Kingsdown and Sex - dontknowwhatmatt

Hi all,

I have a lot of sleep troubles, and shoulder pain at night, so I've been wanting to get a softer mattress, and I was particularly interested in the Kingsdown mattresses.  However, since I've always slept on a traditional mattress, I've never had sex on one of these softer mattresses.  It seems to me that something like Kingsdown which conforms to your body would not be good for sex since you would just push your partner into the mattress, and they wouldn't come back up, or perhaps the knees would sink in like I've heard people complain about the Tempurpedic beds. Can anyone owns or has had sex on a Kingsdown please comment on this? It's actually an important thing in buying a mattress, and I'm surprised I don't see much consideration for it on the internet. Thanks....
Re: So many choices (would like latex mattress preferably not go over $2000) - budgy

all im going to suggest/add is that if you are considering latex based on the 'hypoallergenic' properties, resistance to moulds, bacterial growth, dust mites...etc.  Do not consider buying a Sealy spring free.   These benefits of latex are specifically referring to the properties of natural rubber.  If you want the full benefit of these properties you should really consider buying 100% natural latex.  Sealy uses 100% synthetic (SBR) rubber which offers basically none of those benefits and in addition to this the mattresses are always quilted with a top layer of polyurethane foam, which is another thing you want to avoid if you want these benefits.  Also anything you mix into natural rubber will degrade these qualities, so synthetic blends also lose most of this benefit.

As far as durability goes most of that is misinformation started by manufactuers like Latex International because they primarily only make synthetic blend rubber.  If...
New mattresses all junk? - websy

Hello everyone first post here.

Oviously I (we) are having issues with our mattress(s) over the last year and  through which time we have gone through 4 different mattresses. The first was a serta "whispersleep" or some other stupid name but there was something about whisper. Secondly we had a Steans and Foster mattress(the name escapes me). The third mattress was  sealy base model. The most recent purchased about 6 weeks ago is a Kingsdown.

All these mattresses had the same problem. After only a few weeks of use the foam on top of the mattress had body impressions and it literally felt like your body is "bottomed out" in the bed. Once this "foam" was imprinted from only a few weeks of use the bed(s) were extremely uncomfortable - the Kingsdown is by far the worst of the 4.

My girlfriend and I both had 10+ year old flipable mattresses...

Re: Sleep to Live - Bensons Beds.... Anyone heard of them? - sidesleepin

I purchased one of these "Sleep to Live" beds at a Sleepy's recently.  I went to 2 Sleepy's stores and both sales people directed me to these beds even though I had gone there and told them that I was looking for a latex mattress.  Of course, it was one of the highest priced mattresses that they had ($3,999.00 for a King) but yes, it felt comfortable.  I asked who made them and they both told me they were made by "Sleep to Live", a company that I told them that I had never heard of.  Of course, they put me on that crazy sleep test mattress and told me what firmness was recommended.  To make a long story short, the salesman dropped the price down to $2,500.00 and I walked out thinking that I got a good deal.  After researching the mattress and also Sleepy's later that night, I...

Thanks everyone for your feedback.  DianeK my Kingsdown is 11 years old and is totally worn out and the springs have lost their support.  The bed is sagging like crazy and its pretty much done.

I decided to go ahead with my original decision to purchase the Simmons bed at Sleep Country.  I'm a very tired stay at home mother of two babies and I just can't give this any more of my energy.  I've spent weeks at bed stores, lying on every kind of bed, talking to sales people and researching on the internet.   I really liked the bed in the store and if it only lasts 5 years than so be it.  I'll never know unless I try it out for myself.

Thanks again!

Hey everyone,

Buying a new bed has to be one of the most annoying purchases around.  I have spent so much time trying to gather info and I just can't get a real consensus on anything.  I was set in my mind to buy a plush pillowtop king mattress.  I went to Sleep Country Canada and put down a deposit on a Simmons Beautyrest Classic High Loft Pillowtop with Wool and Memory Foam.  It feels wonderful in the store and I'm sick of sleeping on firm surfaces at home and my back is killing.  But now I've been to a ton of other stores and talked to a lot of sales people and have been reading reviews on the internet and it seems that a lot of actual buyers who have had their pillowtops for more than a few years hate them now and say they sink and...

Matress surgery - Sealy Posturepedic Gray Haven Cushion Firm, need help - Matress
May 31, 2010 5:10 PM
Hello All,

About 27 months ago, I bought a Sealy Posturepedic Gray Haven Cushion Firm (twin XL set with box spring) from Art Van. I slept okay for a year or so, but since, I've been waking up after about 5-6 hours from low and middle back pain, and my arms some times fall asleep. Matress does not show visible impressions, but my hips drop when I lay on this matress, and it's killing me.

I purchased a 1½" thick Dunlop latex topper from Overstock, and placed it on top of this matress. Overall, I liked the feel, springy and supportive. I kept the topper for about a month, and returned it - still having back trouble. I then tried a 1" thick Latex International 24 ILD Talatech topper from Sleep Like a Bear (great service). I bottomed this out, so I returned this as well.

Need a new mattress--help! - amysue30

Hi

I am hoping someone can give me guidance about buying a new mattress.  First let me say that I just discovered this forum and am so glad to have found a resource for mattress information.  I would rather buy a used car at this point :)  I am on my 3rd replacement Kingsdown mattress. The first two were body systems in green and had latex toppers. After 6 months or so they developed massive ditches and were labeled defective by Kingsdown. They just sent me my third one, which is a series 800 and it is so firm that I am waking up with my shoulder and arm numb.  I've had it for three days and have yet to have a good night's sleep. The place I bought it at (not Sleepy's) does not carry any other brand, so I either get another Kingsdown or bite the...
