I have read that some of you have tried zoning and have experimented with memory foam and latex 14 ILD, over the other latex layers. Have you found those strategies to be effective?

I have the same problem with trying to get enough cushioning for my shoulders while preventing my hips from sinking in too far and giving me lower back pain. Have tried all sorts of configurations of latex toppers -- including cutting them up to try zoning -- on 2 different spring mattresses. No long-term success yet.

I can recommend one thing to *avoid*, and that's 14 ILD Talalay latex. It's useless, except for children or small pets. Any adult will sink right through it. I'm built similar to Tessie, and I wasted a fair amount of money on 2" and then another inch of...

Offgassing half-life for regular spring mattresses? - lookingnow
Nov 28, 2013 9:22 AM
I finally found a spring mattress that is comfortable. It's a new Simmons Beautysleep. It's got some foam on the springs but not much, maybe 2". There also may be foam encasing the coils inside it.

The darned thing is out-gassing so badly I can't even have it in the house (I live in a studio apartment.) I believe it's mostly the flame retardants these things are dipped in these days (plus maybe the foam.) Right now it's out on the porch and I'm staying elsewhere.

I aired it out for 7 days and it was better but it was still messing with my nervous system so I aired it out for another 3 days. This time there was no further improvement. It could be because the temperature outdoors where it was airing out had gone seasonally from about 70 degrees to 40...

Problem with local mattress store - lookingnow
Oct 22, 2013 3:02 AM
Went into a local mattress retailer and said I'm a stomach and side sleeper. They suggested a bed that was way too soft for stomach sleeping and then one that was way too hard (and spending $1000 for crap mattresses and exchanges) I ended up with a Simmons Beautysleep "Hunter" Eurotop Firm which I finally thought would work - but im sleeping worse than ever. Lying on my stomach is KILLING my back after two nights. They don't have the basic common sense to know how to sell a mattress but I was at their mercy and had nothing else to choose from under $1000 on their floor and now feel stuck with this saggy Beautysleep.

After doing some research it seems this BeautuSleep has the Simmons 700 count open coil system, 15.5 gauge, with 3...

Mattress Topper for short money? - lookingnow

I'm a stomach (mostly) and side sleeper.

I have a brand new Simmons Firm 700 coil count, 15.5 gauge mattress. hopefully it will soften up although I am only 130 lbs.

The thing is like sleeping on a cement slab. But at least I can build it up. I need the firmness for the stomach sleeping.

Looking for as low-cost as possible a topper solution so my lungs and ribcage don't hurt when stomach sleeping and so I can do some side sleeping. Want to soften it up somewhat.

i have a 1.5" memory foam topper on it with decent density but it's not enough. I am bottoming out somewhat right back onto the hardness of the new mattress. Also the chemical smell from the topper although aired out outdoors for a week and has off-gassed somewhat - is...

Can I do anything about this? - lookingnow

I know there are always more ideal ways to get a good mattress than what I'm doing but I have very llittle money and have few options.

i went into a small local family-run mattress store with excellent online reviews - people said they had bought mattresses listed at $1100 for $600, had $50 taken off for paying cash, were given free delivery and bed frames when they bought mattress sets, etc.

I'm a single gal, went alone and very tired needing a good bed on a low budget. Bought an Englander with low coil count, thick coil gauge and 5" of cheap PU foam. Stupid me. $499/full size set plus tax plus $69 delivery. Said twice I felt I was taking a risk on Englander and salesman offered a two year unconditional warranty. We all know this...

Help me plan a basic mattress surgery - mc510

Wife and I have a seven year old Simmons plush-firm queen mattress; of course the foam layers on top are compressed and uncomfortable, but the springs seem fine.  We recently laid on a new mattress composed of springs, 3" medium latex, and 2" quilted wool, and it seemed pretty comfortable, so I'm wondering if I can replicate it through surgery.  In most of the surgery that I read about here, people use more than 3" of foam, and often two or three densities, but I'm considering just one 3" layer, then adding a wool topper if it seems necessary.  What do y'all think?  The other question is what ILD to get, and where.  FBM medium is 32, which seems too firm for a single layer.  High 20s seems better to me, but where would I get that?

Choosing a Latex Topper for firm matress - davemac2

Hey Guys,

Wondering if some of you can give me some feedback on your experience of adding a talalay latext topper topper to a too firm matress.  My situation is that I just bought a Simmons Beautyrest Recharge firm matress 1 1/2 months ago and am finding it a little bit too firm.  I'm experiencing some pressure point pain (a little) and lower spine pain when I sleep on my side because I think my hips are not sinking in enough.  I'm mostly a side sleeper and some stomach as well.  I'm a 6'2 male, 235lbs.  I as looking at purchasing the 3" 24 ILD talalay latext topper from Brooklyn Bedding.  My concern here is if this would be too soft for my weight?  How do you decide the thickness of the topper/comfort layer vs the ILD rating?   I assume the ILD rating is more critcal to...

Re: My back hurts & I'm still ISO a non-sag mattress! - Oliver

I tore a disk in my back in 2008. My back never has healed to what it was. I go through mattresses like some people go through shoes. Tried every type.

Select Comfort (setting at a max. of 100% still way too soft), The firmest Temper Pedic made (got maybe a week of good sleep from it untill it started to sag).

A traditional inner spring Stearns and Foster (hard to find now), that was not all that firm and it did not take long before it started to sag.

My last bed that I gave away was a Sterns and Foster 100% latex foam bed. Again might have got 2 weeks out of it before it too started to sag. Ouch.

The one I am on now is some sort of hybrid. Part foam part inner spring. It is a Simmons....

So it's the fire retardants that stink? I was thinking of buying a Simmons Beautyrest Pillowtop and hated my Tempur-Pedic smell for the first 5 months! I want a mattress that doesn't stink and give me a headache!...
Mattress surgury or buy new? - jarede7

Dear Forum users,

I am hoping to get some help from the people on this forum to decide whether I should attempt surgery on my Beautyrest masttress or just buy a new one.  The mattress is 6 years old and appears to be the equivalent of the currently selling Simmons Beautyrest World class recharge. I want to get something  new or fix the one I have because I am a side sleeper and the last two years I have been getting neck pains when I try to sleep and my arm is falling asleep.  I attribute this to the large impression that has formed where I sleep.  I have seen several great discussions regarding the surgery route and though from the research on foams that I have done on the internet show the cost that look like it could approach half a new mattress.  So my questions are:

1.  If...
