Re: Replacing my 1994 Simmons Maxipedic "Concorde" open coil mattress - DianeK

Congratulations on finding something that works for you.  Even if it only lasts a year, at $600 a year, it would take 20 years the spend the same amount of money you would drop on a high-end Hastens or Vi-Spring.  As long as there are bargains around, perhaps the Bic-pen approach to mattresses isn't all that badcheeky!

I just have a couple of comments to make:

1.  I don't think you have to worry about a Hastens topper of horsehair and wool sleeping hot.

2.  If you are wanting as "natural" a bed as possible, I would be concerned about glue being used in the Hastens spring system - glues do off-gas....

Yes, they are nearby.  How is their pricing compared to Hastens?

Comparable.  What I liked about them compared to Hastens was (1) a latex topper doesn't need to be massaged, (2) I think I reacted badly to horsehair the one night I slept on a Hastens.

I fell dead asleep for over an hour in the Conneticut showroom on a Carpe Diem, and as you know from my posts here, I haven't had a lot of success with latex yet their latex topper was just fine - maybe something to do with the spring system underneath??.

Thanks,I appreciate your advice. I have some questions.

1  what should I buy?

Blended talalay latex or Natural talalay latex?

2  I sleep on my sides.

What layer configuration is best for me.

(about dunlop latex, it was just so firm that I could not sleep)

3. Should I also get the foundation along with the latex mattress?

Out of the 3 foundations listed which one should I get?

Thank you jim, budgy, and richard.

1. I am personally biased to believe Natural rubber is superior to blended rubber.  But it is a...

Re: Is it true that the S Co's are all going to mostly pocket coils now? - budgy

This does seem to be a prevailing trend.  Although over the last while that I have been participating on this forum we have continually dropped more and more 'S' brand product to the point we are no longer carrying any today.  Pocket coils are getting cheaper and cheaper...I personally feel the potential chance of having coil migration issues are far greater today than in the past because of the cheap fabrics being used to encase the coils in all of these mass produced beds.  I really don't think someone would see coil migration in a product like Marshall (like the actual Marshall mattress company from Ontario), Vi-Spring, Hastens, Green Sleep, Lavital, Hypnos, etc.  The cotton fabrics being used in the higher priced beds is strong enough that I dont think the coils would ever have a place to go.  The polyester wrappings being used today in most beds is just...

Their products look very nice.  Keep in mind that an all wool mattress will likely require a little bit of maintenance, not really any more than a Hastens bed anyway.  But the toppers should be taken outside once a year to freshen up, and these should be flipped and rotated fairly often to even out any compression that will occur.  In reality even though there is nothing to worry about chemically inside natural rubber or steel springs, neither material should be classified as organic, so in a way these are some of the few truly organic mattresses that are available.  Their website though is riddled with misinformation, they claim wool has 5X the loft of down....in reality the reverse of this is true, high quality down is about 6 times loftier than sheeps wool, or most animal hair/wool products really.  They also claim that you would never have to worry...

well technically the Vimala (and all of GreenSeep) is no longer being made by Sleeptek (Sueno and Obasan makers).

the Vimala was just recenty revised although it was our most popular mattress.  my brother sleeps on one, and I probably would have gotten one for myself however before we got the line I took the plunge on a Natura Eco Haven, which I am very happy with btw.  More than anything I just really like the base systems the GreenSleep beds use.

we do carry some Sueno product which we have actually private labelled so we could get Obasan's fabric on one of the beds.  The name Obasan is only sold direct from the manufacturer.  they are fantastic mattresses, customers generally like them a lot very comparable to the Natura organic line interms of the different build ups.  Although they do things a little bit differently.

I spent a couple of years sleeping on a Hastens.  The temperature regulation of a Hastens mattress is amazing, you will not be disappointed in that regard.  That alone makes sleeping on anything else rather difficult.

I do not like the Hastens toppers.  For me, they ruin an otherwise remarkable sleeping experience.  The top mattresses are amazingly responsive to your body's contours, why anyone would want to cover that up with a mostly inflexible 3" topper is beyond me.  Various dealers have told me that they do not use their toppers, as well as many of their clients.  Try it without the topper and see what you think.

I have no direct experience with any of the other brands, but someone who has worked for years with Hastens told me that when they visited a Savoir showroom, that they were blown away by the superior quality...

Hi peeps.

I found this forum a few weeks ago and have spent quite a bit of time researching beds before I make a purchase.

For years I had slept on a fairly firm mattress at my parents, then moved out 6 months ago, and bought myself a cheap eBay bed, without knowing too much about the different types and styles of beds.

It was listed as an orthopaedic bed, which I thought meant good for the back, but in fact it feels like I am sleeping on concrete every night. I don't look forward to going to bed anymore, and usually end up getting about 4-5 hours sleep, then wake up with aches in my hips, ribs and shoulders, due to pressure points, as I am a side...

I have owned a Hypnos Eminence for quite some time and love it ! It is the best bed I slept on, and before I purchased this bed

I did extensive research on others ( hastens, Vi spring, natura, green sleep )

This is a well made product and has Royal warrants from the Queen to prove it !

we love ours !
