Ortho stores sell a Stearns and Foster that is 98% latex. Look at the LABEL on the head end of the mattress though; some of the sales people will tell you it's "all latex" but they're not. They have 3 different models and one of them is about 97% latex and the other 2 are between 80-90% if I recall correctly. Anyway it's one of the few chain stores where you can actually check out the feel of latex.

I think someone said there's a store called "PJ's" (I think) that sells latex. I think they used to sell Englander latex and I think they're somewhere around the Beverly Center but don't quote me. Someone in another recent thread about Los Angeles said there was a  place in Santa Monica that sold latex mattresses; then there is Foam Sweet Foam in O.C..

Latex may be what...

Interesting information, thank you all.  Success or successful advertising - whatever,  they are still around for a reason.  I understand profit is the nature of business and I don't even blame them for inventing the no-turn mattresses. I haven't the energy or strength to turn a mattress regularly so I bougt into that.

My personal take is that in order to get a mattress without all the chemicals and cheap filler I have to go to the top tier of Stearns and Foster.  The chemicals have darn near killed me as it is.  Why would I do that? Well I for one would really like to try the bed before purchasing, although in all honesty the odds are 50/50 even then.  I'd prefer to not have to drive around for days on end to find a mattress, but I live...

Hi!  I would like to add some input here as I've been thru it all I think.

Serta Simmons and Sealy all make a nice mattress.  I like Serta the best because of the coil architecture.  Simmmons, individual springs, there is no support, they will keep sinking, no matter the gauge.  Sealy, never again.  Why? Bonnell coil.

Also to be considered is the foundation.  What happened to the box spring?  Now it's just a cheap structure of stiff wire with no give and nothing more than a waste.  When they made real box springs, the mattress could sink in and it was a system of support.  Not now.

I have a nice Serta mattress resting on a firm foam base with a latex topper.  My solution.

Consumers need...

I'm up to my ears in research and found this site.

I keep seeing reference that is almost a warning to the 'S' brands = I know this means the big name brands and I have studied them and all others to a faretheewell.

We had a Simmons BeautyRest for many years, it is on it's second life at our son's house and he still loves it.   From the BeautyRest we went to a memory foam based on medical advice, even though it stunk like mad for a few weeks we slept pain free and it was great for two and half years before something happened and it started being really hot and making me sick. We pulled a Serta from the guest room and are making do,  we had immediate relief from whatever the memory...

Thats one of the new model Sterns & Fosters, but I am not sure why they have that one priced so high, when I saw some of the others S&F at really good prices there of COurse Havert's has always been a little high on their mattress prices. They must have just dropped the prices to get rid of the older stock. That mattress is priced a little over $400 above retail.

Anyone tried the Simmons BeautyRest Pemberton Plush (non PT?) - Boopboopadoop

Hi friends,

Over the last 3 months, have been on this forum more than I ever wanted to be.  Have experienced a long, painful (and expensive) Mattress Buying saga which I won't recount here.  Much of the story has already been told in my previous posts.

Briefly, we just returned a Stearns and Foster Pillowtop (from Sleep Trainwreck)...mostly because the Pillowtop was too mushy (learned our lesson) and the bed was too warm.  The too warm part is more of a problem for me, but my boyfriend also thought it was too warm.  So even when we adjusted to the mushy yet comfy pillowtop (which we called "The Mosh Pit"), we knew we had to get something else.

After endless shopping and nonstop research, we finally settled on a Beauty Rest "Pemberton Plush" model at Macy's.  Would have preferred one of the "cooling" Serta...

You seemed to be a little confused about what is used in each brand uses as coil systems.

Serta uses the continous coil which in fact is the lightest spring unit in the industry using the least amount of steel. It does have a decent design and holds up fairly well depending on which unit you get. In their starting line they use the Bonnell coil.

Simmons individually pocketed coil system is great for motion transfer as it doesnt distribute your weight across the bed so you do give up some duarbility. You dont give up support, because you are sleeping on more coils in most Breauty Rest then you do on any other mattress. It just doesnt maintian that level of support as...

Re: Serta Icomfort request for advice - ginger17

I bought my Serta IComfort mattress on 1/7/12 and it was delivered on 1/11/12. I had my heart set on a Stearns and Foster (lower end) model but once at Macy's I loved the feel of the IComfort. I had no plans what so ever of purchasing a memory foam or gel foam mattress and actually knew very little about them. I purchased the Insight queen and box spring. Upon being delivered the mattress was literally hard as concrete. I was horrified b/c it felt nothing like it did in the store showroom. After about four days my back and legs were aching. I even felt sciatica pain, which I hadn't felt in years. I had back surgery at age 30 (42 now) and never once had a problem since the surgery.

I called Macy's customer service on 1/15/12 and informed them of the firmness of my mattress...

New Sealy Posturpedic causing back pain - StephanieP
Jan 29, 2012 4:26 PM
My last mattress (Sealy Posturepedic Montreaux – Firm?) lasted me about 11 years with no problems. Little did I know how much mattresses had changed and that more research would have been beneficial before my recent purchase.

When the one mentioned above began uncomfortably sagging, I began my search with Sealy Posturepedic since it had served me well in the past. I went to Sleep Train (a primary mattress retailer in the SF Bay Area) and tried a number of their options – spent quite a bit of time on each one with a very patient, helpful salesperson. Without knowing what each was when I lay on it, I found I liked the firm best, even as a side sleeper. It felt as if my lower body was better supported. (Though, in hindsight, this may have more to do with memory foam than not being firm enough…?) We...
