BobJ,
I am happy for you that you found a bed that fits your comfort needs and learned on this site that a topper may be what you need with a very firm surface underneath. Since I am not quite 5 feet tall, the X-Firm latex cores were firm enough for me and my 1" toppper was just right for my comfort but everyone is different and it feels so good when you are able to tweek your bed to make it just right for you.
It took Sleepies over 2 months to refund me my money when I cancelled the order the next day and the bed was never delivered. I am glad you at least did not have the restocking fees and at least were able to finally get your refunds despite having to do some reminding.
It is like this with pillows also for comfort. I...

Hi Alexander, it seems you have worked in the mattress industry. Is that correct?
You seem to know a lot about mattresses! It's good to have someone who knows things about manufacturing here.
I admit to exaggerating in my statement about coils. I should have said "MOST are made with springs from one manufacturer and cheap pu foam". So thanks for keeping me honest!
But you must admit it is hard to know...

Update - Returned Flobed & bought Stearns & Foster - BobJ

It has been a while since I've posted. I am happy with the bed I have now. Here is a summary of the entire saga:
Flobed: I purchased a Flobed in early January. I got the setup that was indicated to be firm. It was too soft for me. I did several core exchanges to get super firm cores but still too much of a sag for my back. I returned it in April.
Stearns & Foster: I bought a firm bed from Sears. If you don't like the bed, you can return it within 30 days, no questions asked. It definitely did not sag which was a big improvement but it was quite hard. I woke up with backaches because it didn't provide any arch support to my back. I had seen reviews of latex mattress toppers on this site and decided to order a 2" topper...

It seems Costco currently sells a latex bed made by Stearns and Foster that I might try. Its called the Dover Court and consists of the following:
- Luxurious Knit Cover
- FlameGuard™ High Loft Fiber
- 1” Hypersoft®
- .4" Smart Latex™
- 2" Infinilux® with VRT™
- .79" Smart Latex™

Jun 23, 2009 8:25 PMI'm so glad I found this forum and have been learning a great deal. Here's my situation and I can really need some help: currently I and my husband are sleeping a futon mattress that's pretty much seen the end of its life and I have back pain. I'm a side sleeper at 140 lb, he's a stomach sleeper and weighs 280 lb. We have a firm inner spring mattress in the guest bedroom and have been sleeping on it. I like it but since he comes to bed late I wake up every night around 1am when he craws into bed from all the motion ( which I don't get with the futon mattress). The mattress is a Simmons Beautyrest ultra firm with pocketed coils. I've been to 4-5 stores and tried Sealy Posturepedic, Tempurpedic, SpringFree latex, Stearns and Foster, Beauty Rest. I'm getting confused with all the options. ...Should I get a new mattress? - neo8175
Jul 28, 2009 8:57 AMRecently, i just bought the Stearn's & Foster Estate Collection king size mattress from Sleepy's. It is a lux firm mattress w/ 1" of memory foam. After a few days, I've noticed some deep body impressions on my side of the bed. I'm 5' 7" - 160lbs, my gf is 5' 95 lbs. I have a few weeks to make decision if I want to keep it or not, but I'm kinda hesitant. Is it really that difficult to find a good mattress?
If I decide to exchange it, what you guys recommend? I'm looking for a mattress that has good support but has alittle softness. Probably, in between a firm and a plush mattress. I'm hesitant getting another mattress that has memory foam b/c of the sinkage. Will I get the same depressions w/ innerspring mattresses w/ latex foam?
Here are my options:
1. Stearns & foster w/ latex foam instead of...Box Spring - eattrig
Aug 6, 2009 5:53 AMI recently purchased a Stearns & Foster Camdenhurst Pillow Top mattress. The salesman (of course) tried to get me to buy the box spring, to which I said no. But now (about 2 months after buying) my wife and I feel some back discomfort in the mornings. We've tried adding a pillow top to the already existing one, but it doesn't seem to help. So I'm starting to wonder if I did, in fact, need to buy the box spring. Do I really need the box spring? If so, which one should I get for my particular mattress?...Re: Sealy Spring Free Weybridge VS Latex International DIY products - eagle2
Aug 27, 2009 3:07 PMI hope no one thinks me rude or unmannerly regarding this post. As I do not have anything to contribute to the actual original posters query. But I just wanted to express myself about this subject of latex mattresses as I have been deep into this for the last month or so, and you all know what I mean, night and day seven days a week.
I started out looking at Stearns and Foster's "natural latex" mattresses. I have found a good salesman and was getting close to "pulling the trigger" when I discovered this website and the many others that flowed from it.
From what I have been able to ascertain it is almost impossible to find out what the big three "S" manufactures are putting in their beds. And I'm not talking about all of this green, organic, off gassing, and other, back to nature movement, buzzwords. What I'm talking...Another Disenchanted Mattress Buyer Needs Help - wifecat
Aug 31, 2009 10:59 AMWe have had two mattresses in eight years - the first was a Stearns & Foster and the second was made for Storehouse by Carolina Mattress Guild. The first one got a bit lumpy, and the second one has left us with sagging sides, person-sized dents, and a nice hump in the middle of the mattress. Awesome.

We almost made the mistake of buying the same thing again (a pillowtop Simmons beautyrest) but fortunately I read epinions and then stumbled upon this site. Thank you for all of the great info! I've read through a lot of posts about mattress surgery and building your own mattress, and I'm interested in both of those ideas. I have no idea what kind of springs I'll encounter once we get up the courage to operate, so I want to be prepared to quickly move on building our own if...Re: Original Mattress Factory worth the 400 mile round trip? - Alexander

I'm sorry but this is untrue once you get into a manufacturer's signature spring. The Posturepedic coil is made by Sealy in Sealy plants that employ Sealy workers. The Individually Pocketed Coil is made by Simmons in Simmons plants that employ Simmons workers. The same is true with Stearns and Foster.Whether or not you get cheap PU foam is dependant on whether you pay for cheap PU foam....
