Re: new mattress = back pain? - sandman

Gizzy seems to be pushing these products a bit too hard, so I wonder about his/her real objectivity.
Anyway, too firm of a mattress can cause back problems, just like too soft of a mattress. The key to avoiding back pain is to have the spine if proper alignment. If it is too firm, you hips might be pushed up too much, causing back pain.
Normally you would feel it first thing in the morning, and it might go a way later in the day. You seem to have the opposite, which is kind of strange. Anything else new in your life, like a different type of exercise or something?
Still, it could be the mattress any you might need to add something softer on your side.
Are you a side sleeper, and does the mattress feel too firm? Do your...
Re: HELP building DIY mattress with 3" latex over 6" Poly foam base or just get 6" latex - Phoenix

Wow ... what great and informative feedback.
1) Tried Simmons extra firm with 800 and one with 1000 coils. They both felt good but of course decided to stay away from mattress with coils and cheap poly.
The "S" companies make mattresses that feel good ... for a while. Not sure which verions these were (many variations of construction both in the coils and in what's on top) so I won't draw any conclusions from it regarding what works for you
2) Another store had an Ashley with 7" poly, 2" 19 ILD latexm, and 1" 28 ILD latex, and 1/2" poly for $1049. It felt good but tiny bit soft. Also had a Restonic with 2" poly base (said it is for reducing to keep latex from jiggling which I thought was funny), 7" dunlop, 2" super...

I slept on a Tempurpedic before and it is very hot. If you are looking for memory foam make sure it has open cells. Many options for a lot less than temperpedic. i can't share anything on the other two. Good luck and read all you can before you make a choice....

yes roy we have tried memory foam, and wished we didnt our last mattress was a simmons nxg 400 plush cost 3295.00 ans we had it for about a year it consist of 5 inches of memory foam over 980 coil wrapped springs it was the perfect bed the last bed i would ever buy. so i thought after 8 months the memory foam broke down and i was lying in a hole from hell tried everything to fix it ended up giving it to goodwill. i'll never go back to memory foam again. but this is only my bad experience with memory foam i think if you stay in the 1 or 2 inch range it might work for some people but for us it was a mistake. the temperpedic cloud feels the same as the simmons nxg and looking at reviews online the tpc has the same complaints...

well i think that we have come to a conclusion that we are prob not going to use the 3 1/2 terra topper, the only reason we were thinking of going with a 1 ' 24 was that the 24 that is on the top of the lago is glued to the 6 inch and wrappped in 2 inches of wool so it makes it extremely harder than a raw piece of 24. when we took apart the terra topper it became so soft it hurt our lower backs but if you put the mattress cover back on with the 2 inches of wool it is to hard. hard to explain but that is why i was thinking to bring a 1 inch 24 into the mix because it would be alot softer being raw and only 1 inch instead of 4, maybe im wrong but any how we are...
new mattress = back pain? - Slomack
Jan 31, 2011 6:45 AM
Hi there--
Husband and I recently bought a new mattress; we went with a firm Simmons Beautyrest without a pillowtop. My husband had been suffering from back pains, and thought our old mattress was to blame; I thought I could sleep on anything, so when he found the Beautyrest and really liked it (and I tested it as well), we went for it.
We've been sleeping on it for about a month now, and while his back problems seem to have been alleviated, mine seem to have started! For the last two weeks, I've felt like my entire back was just tight--like it just needed to stretch out or pop or something. The last two days my lower back has been increasingly sore...I just can't get comfortable when I'm sitting or standing.
The one place I AM comfortable is lying in bed...I sleep soundly,...
Re: Simmons Comforpedic vs. Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme vs. KIngsdown 600 - mc60

After much deliberation, I have decided to go with one of the mattresses that I originally looked at - the Sleep Number. I am getting the p5 in a kingsize. After one of my close friends who swears by this mattress suggested I go to their store, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the comfort and liked the flexibility. As I read reviews on how various beds that I have been looking at have sagging and/or heat issues, the Sleep Number bed should not sag as long as there is not a mechanical failure - which if it does occur is covered by warranty and the individual parts can be replaced. By staying away from a memory foam bed I think I will avoid the heat issue. I am also going to put an Outlast mattress pad on the bed to further help insure that there are no temperature issues....
Simmons Comforpedic vs. Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme vs. KIngsdown 600 - mc60
Jan 31, 2011 5:58 PM
I am in the final stages of deciding which bed to get. I have been shopping at Sleepys and have whiltted my choices down to these three beds. I am 5' 11" / 185 pounds. My wife is normal size and weight. She is a great sleeper on any bed. I have some minor lower back issues. I love the feeling of the Cloud Supreme and really would like to buy it. I have read some posts on this blog that have raised some potential concerns about long term comfort. I also tend to be a hot sleeper and am concerned about this as it relates to the Tempurpedic. I tried the Simmons Comforpedic and found it to be extremely comfortable and comparable to the Cloud Supreme. I like the combination of memory foam and latex. It is theoretically designed to sleep cooler. It is also the most expensive of all...
Help with Simmons Warranty Replacement - markd2000
Feb 4, 2011 9:17 AM
Today I received positive news from Simmons that they will honor their warranty to replace my king mattress. What's even better, this is the second replacement on the original mattress that was purchased 9 years ago. Here's the issue. The original and replaced mattress were both high end pillowtop models (original cost $2000). They are giving me an allowance for a new mattress up to a value of $3000. We have decided to stay away from the pillowtops and focus on plush mattresses. Does anyone have a recommendation? Their website features Beautyrest Anniversary, World Class, Exceptionale, and NxG series as well as the Beautyrest Black collection. Thanks, Mark...
